“Is there anything I should mod on my 2009 Toyota RAV4 to make it better?” My better and your better may be completely different things. I consider the RAV4 to be a poor starting platform for modding. That said, I would start with: New tires and wheels. Probably +1 or +2. Lower the suspension. I do not mean to lower it to rub the ground. Since the RAV4 is a crossover/SUV and sits a little higher, you could probably lower it an inch or 2 to get the center of mass down a bit. A cold air intake. You may have to be creative and make it yourself. A quick google search turned up no options for easy engine upgrades. That does not mean they do not exist. But, you may have to do some tinkering with bits and bobs to get anywhere. Good luck. -Doug
I would say that you can't go wrong with either a Volvo XC40 or a Toyota RAV4 we sell them both and find them to be solid reliable cars that hold there value well. The Toyota RAV4 will be the most reliable out of the 2 and therefore the maintenance costs will be lower.
It’s located left side lower dash and under the hood right side while standing in front of the vehicle.
I would recommend the current CRV over the RAV4 for the looks and typical Honda solidity. I will no doubt do the reverse when it comes to the next Toyota RAV4 because it looks amazing in design, while the Honda guys seem to have run out of design ideas. The upcoming RAV4 looks even bigger, and with better ground clearance it will come tops.
It is a great vehicle in just about all areas except two. It needs more power and a lower price. I like the vehicle as they use dual injection -port fuel and direct injection to address the intake valve fouling problem most direct injections vehicles will have once they accumulate mileage and they have 6 speed transmission and not the CVT that will require more maintenance.
In general any reliable vehicle, including most Toyota vehicles, would be a good vehicle for anyone. First car or 30th car. A Rav4, Honda CRV, Mazda CX-5 would all be great provided you have the income to support the vehicle. The Rav4 is rated a bit lower than either the Honda or Mazda. But any of these vehicles would be a wise choice. Similar vehicles to avoid include the Nissan Rouge, Jeep Compass, and GMC Terrain.
Question: ,Why is the Toyota RAV4 4WD so popular in the US compare to the other cars in its class? It’s a pretty popular SUV is one of the reasons. The RAV4 is the best small SUV in its class and it holds it resale value. For young adults, single women, and small family’s it’s the “right size” for their needs and it’s not too hard on their wallets as far as cost or gas. Additionally: You get a range of options on the base and lower end models that are extras on other models - When I was checking small SUVs last year, I was surprised that RAVs have heated and power seats in the base model. You can tow a lot for a small SUV - I was looking for an SUV to tow small travel trailer that I was considering and the RAV4 was the only one whose towing capacity would matched my needs. You can get all wheel drive on even the base models - It’s an option, not a standard, however, but it’s still available. The same cannot be said for it competitors. So basically the RAV-4 is popular because of its price, its mileage and its great resale value. It’s also the least expensive SUV from the Toyota lineup which has be appealing to many buyers. I don’t own one (I decided to wait until later in 2019 to buy a new vehicle) but if I do go for a small SUV, it’s going to be a RAV-4.
You should get a loan at a lower rate from a local credit union, and pay off the loan you got. You should be able to get 3% or less if your credit is OK. Mine is offering 0.8 at the moment.
Similarly equipped trucks often cost the same or even more than SUVs. As an example, the base model F150 has an msrp of $28k. The Honda HR-V comes in under $20k. The Ford Escape comes in under $24k. The Jeep Cherokee comes in under $25k. The Hyundai Santa Fe, VW Tiguan, Honda CR-V, Chevy Equinox, Jeep Compass, GMC Terrain, Toyota Rav4, Subaru Forester, Honda CX-3, Hyundai Tucson, Subaru Outback, and so on and so forth all have a lower starting price. A base model truck has less options on average than a base model SUV. Similar trim packages usually find the truck costing more than the SUV. You can buy a BMW suv for the price of a mid range F150.
The short answer is no. While it has more ground clearance and all wheel drive models will have better traction in loose conditions like gravel, dirt roads and snow, the RAV4 lacks 3 pieces of essential off-roading equipment. Most Rav4s don’t feature a center differential locker. This feature sends 50% of the power to the front and 50% to the rear wheels. Without it, AWD isn’t much better than FWD or RWD. If one wheel looses traction all of the power will go to that wheel. Traction control uses the braking system to try to overcome this, but it’s not as good as an actual locker. The Rav4 also lacks a low range transfer case. 4X4’s can climb steep grades, carefully crawl over obstacles, ford rivers and descend steep slopes because they have a gear reduction box behind the transmission that multiplies the engine’s torque and lowers the gear ratios. Finally, the Rav4 is built on a Toyota Corolla frame. Corolla’s are tough cars. But they’re still cars. The inherent suspension and frame design just isn’t as robust as a truck frame and suspension. The suspension allows for less travel and will wear out faster than truck-based SUVs like the 4runner and Land Cruiser, or purpose built 4x4 SUVs like the new unibodied Land Rover Defender.
