I live in India. We have only two options to choose from. Comfortline & Highline. Both come with Diesel Engine, AWD with 7 Speed DSG. I chose the Comfortline as it was cheaper and had all that I would care for. I wasn’t keen on a car with a Sun Roof in India. So, for me Comfortline made a lot of sense.
I own a Volkswagen Tiguan Comfortline. There were multiple reasons for choosing this car. The first and foremost was that I wanted an SUV which gives you the feel of an SUV and drives like a sedan. I had owned a few cars prior to this starting from 2004–2005 with a Matiz, then a Swift, followed by a Dzire. Got introduced to European/German cars when I bought a Skoda Rapid. That’s when I realized the difference between a German car and others. Used the Rapid for 4+ years and got a great deal in exchange for the Tiguan. So, the reasons for owning and driving a Tiguan are as follows: Got a fantastic deal The car is awesome with everything being just perfect for my needs such as an SUV driving like a sedan, luxurious interiors, fantastic DSG gear box which is a boon in the city and a pleasure in the highways Last but not the least, a well built German car which gives a driver all the tools to enjoy driving.
This is in addition to previous answers. I'd also add the Toyota RAV4. A base RAV4 GX Manual can be had for 30,000 driveaway right now but you should be able to get one at that price normally. The CVT is an extra 2000 so that may make it out of contention. -New or near new Kia Sportage, if you can stretch a grand or two. Driveaway on a new Sportage SL Automatic is about 33k or so. The CR-V is also a worthy contender. The CR-V VTi (FWD, base) can be had for 28k, if you don't mind a 6-Spd manual. The same model w/ CVT is about 31k. The AWD VTi (2.4+5-Spd Automatic) is about 34k or so. The Volkswagen Tiguan. The back is reasonably spacious and it will fit a bike (with the back seat down). Also a relatively dog-friendly car (according to my neighbour who has one and also owns a dog). There are also many dog-related accessories for it, and I know there is an optional dog-barrier that VW offers (no idea if available here however). A base 118TSI (1.4L) Manual is only 27,990 and the DSG costs 29,990 so it would fit your budget. Mitsubishi ASX: The ASX is not a bad contender either but it is a little older, but a base FWD LS Auto is only 25,000 (at the moment) which would suit this budget. The Subaru Forester: I'm surprised no one has mentioned this one at all. A new base 2.0 i-L Manual is about 34k driveaway so you'll probably have to go for a near new one (or a leftover, you could get a good deal on one of those). But I many see many dog owners with one so it seems like a good (if slightly pricey) choice. I'm going to go very left of field here and suggest the Renault Koleos (base model for 30k) and the Ssangyong Korando. The previous suggestions are also good as well. Hope this helps!
On another note - recently I came across a fairly good comparison report that has checked Hyundai Tucson vs VW Tiguan. Within this, they seem to prefer VW Tiguan unless there is particular budget constraint. 2018 Hyundai Tucson AWD vs Volkswagen Tiguan comparison But they also mentioned that if you have a bit more patience, then Jeep Compass Trailhawk edition would be highly recommended. I haven’t personally driven these vehicles though. I have driven Skoda Octavia with DSG and have loved the way it feels. Not sure of reliability but heard that most of the niggles have been fixed by VS/Skoda. But Octavia and Tucson are not similar vehicles at all. So you need to decide what is your purpose for buying a new vehicle (road+mild off-road/rural road, purely road, road+hard core off-road etc).
Volkswagen has revealed the Tiguan X, its coupe SUV. Photos of the Tiguan X Coupe have been shared on social media. It is a coupe SUV with a sloping roof. The company has also shared some information about the design and features of this coupe car. The Tiguan X Coupe has been introduced to China, but soon the global model of this car will also be introduced. The design of the Tiguan X Coupe is inspired by the recently launched Tiguan SUV. The Tiguan X Coupe features most features from the Tiguan SUV. The Tiguan coupe also features an LED daytime running light with an LED projector headlight. It also has a chrome grille in three horizontal slots taken from the Tiguan SUV. The front of the car has a sporty air intake vent and chrome skid plate. The rear of the car is sliding which meets the tail section. Chrome finish has been given on the side of the windows of the can. The roof also has a chrome roof rail. Apart from this, the black outer rearview mirror and R-line badging have also been given in the car. Talking about the engine, this car has a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine that provides 186 bhp power and 330Nm torque. The high-end variant offers 220 bhp power and 380 Nm torque. The DSG (Dual Clutch) automatic gearbox is standard in the Tiguan X Coupe. This car will be made available in 4-wheel drive variants. Talking about the size, the Tiguan X Coupe is 4,764mm long, 1,859mm wide, and 1,628mm high.
I own a new model Tiguan (sep 2016 delivery) with the 2 liter petrol engine, 180hp, and 4 motion all wheel drive, dsg 7 speed double clutch gearbox, and pretty much most options. I bought it to replace a Volkwagen Touareg that I’ve owned for 12 years. The main reason I bought it is because it is pretty much the only vehicle in it’s class with 2500kg towing capacity. BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, Volvo XC60, Seat Ateca all are limited to 2100kg. A two-horse trailer with two horses comes in at about 2400kgs. I’ve used the horse trailer, and the 4WD system to good effect in muddy fields. Although the Tiguan is a much more nimble, faster and lighter car than the Touareg, it is almost as big inside. Since my kids have grown up, I actually don’t need the full size SUV. Mine has all the modern driving aids and most options. I’ve driven 36019 km with the car up until today (Aug 22nd, 2017). Had one long life service, primarily an oil change at 30000 kms. Pro: Fuel economy: 12,49 km/l over its lifetime, but the last 3 months averaging at 13,4 km/l or 7,2 l / 100 km — however, I drive mostly in economy mode Great towing capacity for size of car; Excellent handling and comfort; Full LED dynamic lighting, digital dash display, HUD, Digital Audio Broadcasting… excellent; Wonderful panorama roof; Drives itself in stop-and-go traffic. Keeps in lane, keeps distance, and brakes to full stop and accelerates. Really useful if you drive a lot during rush hour. Cons: The collision avoidance system occasionally alerts too easily / soon; Until the first software update, some advanced systems did not work correctly (the speed sign recognition system, the handsfree tail liftgate), or occasionally showed intermittent faults (the adaptive cruise control). These have all been resolved; All in all, I am very happy with the purchase, and would recommend it.
Tiguan is expected to be released by end of 2017. Pricing would be around 30 lakhs upwards ex-showroom. India would have the 2.0 litre turbo Diesel with 150 bhp that currently does duty in Jetta, Octavia, Passat and Superb, but with different state of tune. India will also get a option of 2 and 4 wheel drive. Gearbox would be the 6-speed dual clutch DSG that is currently doing duty in Jetta, Octavia etc. This car is based on latest MQB platform from VW like the new Superb , which contains superior handling characteristics.
The demand for SUVs and crossovers is at an all-time high. There are two types of buyers when it comes to shelling out 25+lacs, the one who opt for brand and the others who opt for a VFM proposition. In case you already have Tiguan on your mind, I would suggest you to go for it. No doubt that Jeep is more value for money car as the Tiguan is priced very high and it falls into the territory of bigger and butch machines like Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. Both these machines are a full size bigger than the Tiguan. You cant ignore the features that VW is offering with Tiguan like the panoramic sunroof, cruise control, smoother DSG automatic along with many others which are missing in the compass. With that said Tiguan is a car you buy from your heart and Compass from your mind.
I do not own the latest model (2018 redesign) but believe that under the skin there are not so many changes. I have the Tiguan 2.0ltr petrol engine (184 hp/140 kw) with 4Motion and 7 speed DSG, and one of the earliest series. With most optional extra’s (leather interior, advanced navigation and audio, Apple Carplay, digital dashboard, adaptive cruise control, panorama roof, lane assist, light assist, blind spot monitor, rear traffic alert, head up display). I have owned it since September 2016. Below a picture of my car. I have driven 107.000 km’s since new. I regularly tow a double horse trailer, also in fields (around 2100–2200 kgs). I have been to Italy, Austria through the Alps in the winter with winter-tires about 6 times. Never needed snow-chains. I have an easy driving style. Both summer tires and winter tires have now done over 50.000km’s and not needed replacement. My fuel consumption on average over that total distance is 8,10 liters / 100km (12,34 km / litre). In mpg that is around 29 mpg. Occasionally I do give it the spurs. I have driven at speeds of over 200km/h although I feel happier cruising the German motorways at 150–160 km/h. I have had no extra repairs other than the long-life service performed at the 30.000km intervals. When the car was delivered I had some software issues with the advanced driving modes (adaptive cruise control, and the automated traffic sign recognition) and sensors but these were resolved within 6 months. I attribute that to having received one of the earliest cars in the new model series. Overall I am extremely happy. I came from a larger Touareg with a diesel engine. The Tiguan is very comfortable, quiet, much faster in acceleration, and versatile. I can fully recommend the car.
