Well as everyone mentioned ,skoda, being a part of VW , yes its true and hence the comparison between these two cars will be in-house:-). Both have nearly similar configuration , similar dynamics, almost equivalent engines, good comfort. So it comes down purely to your choice your preferences. i will pick ,skoda Rapid, over ,vento, bcoz of its slightly better looks and road presence than vento and simply because of getting something different. As i feel Vento and Polo have become a house hold name among mid luxury car department. i agree VW vento will have great resale value and good after sale services but Skoda is Not far behind. I feel its more value for money compared to VW. Test drive both the cars.. compare different variant of both these cars according to your demands and then decide. Cheers:-)
By "best city drive" I think what you want to know about is whether which car amongst the 3 fees best to drive. If the 'feel good' factor alone is a parameter to judge a car, I would give the Fluidic Verna a thumbs up. The fluidic Verna has got a responsive steering, good cushioning by the suspensions and shocks and makes a really good driver's car. But on an overall basis, I don't see the Verna winning. (Please note that this is a personal opinion)
I own Vento TDI 1.5 AT DSG 2015 model as a second owner since past one year and previously owned Skoda Rapid 1.5 TDI MT. In general i agree with all the points mentioned by people. Yes, it's maintenance cost is higher than its siblings in Maruti or Toyota or Hyundai. If you are a person whose use of car is just going from point A to B, and mostly drive in the city then don't bother about Vento or Rapid. These German machines are for those who are passionate about drive, safety, feel, and that comes at a slightly higher maintenance cost than Maruti and perhaps for some parts like Clutch plate and suspension, lasts shorter than its siblings. But otherwise, just make sure to use the right Engine Oil (5W40 fully synthetic, costing about 4000 to 4500 for 5L) and genuine replacement parts in every service. And for regular service, outide Authorised service station it costs about 8–9k every 15000 kms or 1 year whichever is earlier. If you are looking for an automatic, there is absolutely nothing that matches Vento DSG. It's even better than the DSG gearbox on Kia Seltos or MG Hector as per trusted reviews. Just the very point that Vento is my second car from the VW family back to back should say it all. I just love the quality, the attention to detail, the practicality, the safety. (2012 Indian model was sent to Asian NCap and it got full 5 stars. And there is absolutely no change in the body since then). I have faced two terrible accidents with fully loaded trucks: one was a side impact and another was a rear impact. Both were slow impacts (less than 10 km/h) butbhuge momentum. The cars (Skoda Rapid and VW Vento) survived extremely gracefully, causing not even a shock inside the cabin and minimal damage to the car as well. And both times my entire family including 2 young kids were inside Even the fuel economy in diesel is quite good. I get about 11–12 in city (Bangalore jams) and 18–20 on highways. The stability at high speeds, the pickup, handliy, cabin, engine, transmission: all are just top notch. To me this aspect of quality, safety handling is far more important than slightly higher maintenance costs. I know at least 3 cases of Baleno crashing sideways at slow speed and inspite of airbags opening the driver didn't survive. So you choose what you want. A great quality and safety or just a tin ka dabba which gives great mileage, great resale value but sort of guarantees fatalities in case of even smaller accidents.
I am the perfect person to answer this question. I have bought 3 second hand Vento diesels in the past 3 years. 1 for myself and 2 for friends. My vento has run till date: 135000. Friend 1: 142000. Friend 2: Around 160000. I would like to say that I have never had such a satisfying experience from any other car other than the vento diesel. The above 3 cars still feel fresh and brand new driving wise and lookwise. I'll put up some pictures for your help. These vehicles even after such high mileage still drive very tight and put shame to vehicles even in a category higher. Be it in performance, or any other factor. There is not even a single rattle inside even after so many kilometers. I have become a big fan of German vehicles. Hope I could answer your query. Toyota vehicles have also great reliability. But Volkswagen Vento is also no less. Hope I could help.

This demand can be full filled by only one car of two you mentioned for comparison, and that is Volkswagen Vento. DRIVING QUALITY & ENGINES:- We don’t care for looks of the car because our life is what Matters the most…so the Volkswagon Vento is a car that offers best driving quality and a variety of engines which are awesome and well refined. Also ,Vento has a flat-bottom steering wheel which has both reach and rack adjustments. Verna has a normal power steering with only reach adjustment but Vento comes with electronic speed sensitive steering. Both offer steering mounted controls. On paper Verna has powerful engines but it is the Vento with advantage of TSI & TDI /MPI engines with long lifespan and its engines are quickest through its gears. Vento shares its engines with one of its subsidiaries like Audi too.. now you can imagine its quality. Vento also offers a 7-speed DSG (dual shift gear) box. COMFORT:- So here Verna has a small compact room for passengers and so we don’t get good leg room or shoulder room and so Vento is a spacious car with good comfort especially for passengers at the rear. We feel a lot safe in Vento. Also Verna has higher window line and it gives less amount of outdoor view but Vento is a true German engineering marvel and so it is the true passenger and driver car. Tall people may get congested on Verna. BUILD QUALITY:- Germans have always been reputed for their build quality in cars and so this reputation is well maintained with our Vento which has all the safety features that a driver and passengers need. Verna does not offer much safety. Volkswagen doesn't compromise with safety for attracting customers…though Verna do have 6 airbags but then it's build quality is not quite good ; on the other hand vento needs only 2 airbags because it's build quality is engineering marvel. Vento uses a galvanized Steel body for safety and also has a side and front impact beams. Vento passes crash test with 4.5 stars out of 5 for child safety and 4.0 stars for adults. Whereas verna failed the UK crash test. Both cars have good dashboard quality with the one on Vento having scratch resistant plastic. CENTRAL LOCKING:- Verna has the central locking with remote and key. It also has a anti-theft system with alarm and engine immobiliser. Vento here is quite smart it has a central locking system with remote and key. It has a anti-theft system and an engine immobiliser. It also comes with memory lock function , this works like , as you lock your car with a remote or key and one of the door is open , then locks won’t get engaged, as you shut that door the car remembers that you wanted to lock the car and it will do it automatically. FEATURES,:- Vento might have 1 or 2 features less but verna has some cool features which we don't use very frequently also those features on verna are just for attracting customers to their side with compromising driving quality and build quality (cost-cutting). Both offer electronic interior rear view mirror with auto dimming function. Verna comes with 4 power windows, with 1 semi-automatic window that comes down with one tap but won’t go up. Rest 3 are manual. Vento comes with 4 fully automatic windows (front & rear) with one touch up & down. These 4 windows also have anti-pinch function so that no child or adult is at risk of hand injury. SAFETY:- Many carmakers ignore the strength of the material used to achieve better mileage and performance and ignore the safety aspect of the occupants. India is readying its version of crash test agency called Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP); this should ensure cars built in India is focused on the build quality rather than favourite features such as ABS, EBD or airbags. While these features are indeed safety options that are important too ,but the body or the shell of the cars need to be built of high-quality material as well. The verna does not have much attention to safety department it gets 6 airbags and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution). The car feels uncomfortable when above 100–110 km/hr. The vento offers a ton of safety features like TCS (Traction Control System) ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) plus they also offer Hill Hold control with Brake assist, also it has a very hard body shell so that passengers are safe inside. Vento also comes with a automatic fuel cut-off system during accident so that no fire takes place. Vento also has anti-roll over body stability. Overall car is sturdy at high speeds. STORAGE:- Verna has a boot of 465 Litres but Vento has slightly bigger one with 496 Litres. Vento has a cooled glovebox which is bigger than Verna. TYRES:- Verna has a R/16 inch alloy wheels with all disc brakes. Vento has a R/15 inch alloy wheels with 2 discs brakes at front and 2 drum brakes at rear. LOOKS:- Verna is hands down an eye-catching car and Vento just fades away in front of verna but its a small compact car from inside not too spacious. FUEL CAPACITY :- Vento : 55 Litres of fuel Verna : 43 Litres of fuel Vento offers 16 KM/L mileage in city & 21 on highway. Verna offers 18 KM/L mileage in city & 23 on highway. DATA AS PER, ,ARAI. 1 BEST THING OF BOTH CARS:- Verna:- It has the best refined engine and you don’t even feel a vibration in the cabin. Vento:- when an accident takes place the sensors in the engine compartment comes to action and it’s engine just settles down and it does not push the cabin and make it squeeze like a sandwich when a front impact takes place. The above picture shows a ,2014 ,Volkswagen Vento was smashed between 2 trucks. The owner of the car said "I was hit by the truck from behind and then with the increased momentum hit the truck in front". This was witnessed in a recent accident in Kerala where German engineering came to the rescue of the occupants of the Vento. Above picture shows how the ,2013 ,Hyundai Verna just squeezed despite of having just a single impact from backside. Hence the built quality is slightly improved for the newer 2018 verna. Plus the VWAG cars have a LOT of aftermarket options to suit to your liking. Secondly, VW owns 10 companies such as Audi, Skoda, Seat, Lamborghini, Bentley, Man, Ducati etc and believe it or not there's a lot of parts sharing in the VAG group. I own a Vento and a Polo too. Both TSI 7DSG and the TSI engines are manufactured by audi. That can only mean good. Thirdly, TSI engine and DSG (Dual Clutch Gearbox) are the latest technology you can get in today's market. The Honda City is far behind compared to Vento in terms of drive ability, refinement and quality standards. Fourthly, if you're thinking of a diesel let me tell you Europeans make the best diesels. I've driven the Homda City diesel and it is highly underpowered and begs for more power. You'll not only get bored but will not feel like driving it. Lastly, reliability and maintenance is a question many people raise against VWAG cars. Let me tell you that VWAG cars need servicing just once a year which doesn't cost more than 6-10k for VW and Skoda. Honda will need servicing more than once a year and costs equivalent if not more. Yes. 1.75L kms and still going stronger than a brand new Japanese vehicle. Finally, think about it. If you were sitting in a Honda and the Vento passes by. Would you even once feel that you should've been in that car? Think with your heart too. For the head I can help you out. All the above cars are sedans but perform very different roles in the roads. anyway, it depends on one’s requirement. speaking of indian roads, mileage plays a very important role. mileage wise, hyundai verna delivers the best. it gives about 21–24 kmpl which is followed by maruti ciaz (20–24 kmpl), skoda rapid (19–20 kmpl), volkswagen vento (18–19 kmpl), toyota yaris (17–18 kmpl) and honda city (17–18 kmpl). (note: ciaz MT gives about 28 kmpl) safety wise, CITY, VENTO, RAPID AND VERNA scored 5 stars while the rest scored 4 stars. for long drive and comfort, one can go for verna, city, ciaz and yaris since it provides best features and comfort. if speed maters the most, vento and rapid gives the best of all. price wise, ciaz is more affordable and the cost of maintenance is cheaper than the rest of the cars. so, it all lies with the customer requirements at the end since all of the above cars are one of the best sedans in the market.

On the other hand the Honda City is powered by Honda’s 1.5L i-vtec engine which has been constantly updated and worked upon throughout these years almost perfecting it. Now, if you want a car with manual transmission the city beats Vento hands down owing to the just average performance of the 1.6 MPi, moreover in terms of reliability, fun to drive factor and refinement, HCI is miles ahead than VW when it comes to Petrol manuals. The game changes, when it comes to Automatic. Where Honda uses the same engine mating it to a CVT box, VW decided to plonk in its 1.2L TSi with a 7 Speed DSG Gearbox. Now, a turbocharged petrol engine with a DSG box is obviously way more fun when compared to driving and old school CVT plagued with the rubber band effect. Be it the urban commute or highway runs, the TSi mated to the DSG beats the City hands down. Now, in terms of ride and handling too Vento is an extremely well engineered product and has excellent dynamics. It's quite a lot of fun to throw around the corners whereas even though City too is well balanced, the stock tyres kills the experience and it cries for a sufficient upgrade. Yes, Honda has indeed introduced the new 16 inches Alloys with better rubber but it comes only in the top end variants which to be honest is quite expensive. On that note in terms of equipment and space, it's the City which scores but when it comes to build and interior quality, it's no where close to Vento. Honda owing to customer’s demand and still lead the segment, filled the City with features to the brim but unfortunately compromised in quality whereas VW equipped the Vento with all the necessary bells and whistle retaining it's quality. In terms of pricing to the VW vento is cheaper than city by quite a bit and is a much better vehicle. The running costs of VW is a little high when compared to Honda but if you're an Auto enthusiast and looking for an Auto Petrol nothing beats a Vento. If you're looking for a MT then City is the best pick.
There’s a minor facelift that has been spied recently. It’s not the euro spec though. It will have less features than a city, ciaz or Verna. It has lesser space in the back. But the build quality, the steering and the stability on highways is unmatched. The Verna makes more power but it makes it higher up in the rev band. I own a DSG TDI from 2 years. It is very reliable but the maintenance costs a bomb ( avg paid service 15000). If you’re an enthusiast and want to drive hard it’s the way to go.
