Old-school automatics were not very appealing to drive as they sucked huge power, and were pretty expensive. With the change in time, today, advances in technology let to the invention of newer automatics for the suitable market and road that allows you to have a much happier ride. Now CVT and twin-clutch-equipped automatics are extremely efficient too. Honda’s brand new City automatic is more efficient than the manual, as the saying goes. Equipped with an all-new CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), the new automatic City gets an ARAI-certified fuel-efficiency rating of 18.0kpl as against 17.8 for the manual. Is the VW Vento any good?

The Volkswagen Vento is a fantastic car. It's simple and elegant design tends to age well. With regular updates VW has ensured that it is able to keep up with it's competitors. Both Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Honda City have a more spacious cabin as well as boot. They also have a more modern design. Where Vento loses out on space and design, it more than makes up for it in the build quality and performance departments. Everything from the bonnet and doors to the switchgear inside feel like they are built to last. My father's Vento has completed nearly five years now and everything is still as good as new, not even any rattles anywhere. That's German engineering. Apart from this it has a quite good diesel engine powering it. With the new larger turbocharger, it now generates 110 PS of power and 250Nm of torque. This engine might be a little unrefined at low revs but it ensures that it puts a smile on your face when you floor the accelerator pedal. It is pretty fuel efficient too. Even in terms of refinement it is better than Honda's 1.5L diesel. The gearbox is also good with short and precise throws. If you're considering getting an automatic then nothing beats VW's DQ200 dual clutch transmission. It is a gem of a gearbox though it has some reliabililty issues which VW claims they have dealt with. Apart from this it is also feature rich. Highest variant gets touchscreen infotainment system with mirror link, auto HVAC, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, Cruise Control, Rain Sensing Vipers, Auto-dimmimg inside rear view mirror, cooled glove box, rear AC vents, dual front airbags, ABS etc. If you're considering buying the Vento, I would suggest you to wait as a new variant with LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights is in the works. It is expected in the first quarter of 2017. You should also take a look at Skoda Rapid. Being a sister car it has all the things mentioned above at a lower price point. Skoda is also working hard to improve it's after sales service.

Which headlights / bulb should I fit in my Seltos HTK model. I feel the brightness of the projector headlamps is less compared to other cars with similar unit. Can I instal HID without impacting the warranty and or an LED. What impact be in fog?

Just look for specifications of the bulb and install Philips xtreme vision regular bulb only. It gives you 30% extra brightness for same wattage and fits the original holder only. The bulb may cost you 700–800 per piece I did that in my Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento and the issue was completely solved.

Which one is better: Maruti Ciaz vs Hyundai Verna 4S vs Volkswagen Vento?

Ciaz offers excellent comfort , back seat space is best . Good quality , auto headlamp, smart hybrid technology, flat rear floor , great boot space , powerful 1.5 ltr petrol engine make its a great combination at great price . Automatic variant add great option to customers.

Can I retrofit fog lamps and touchscreen infotainment system for Skoda Rapid Rider BS 6 variant? If yes, what's the approx cost?

If you want OEM system which is installed in top variant of Skoda Rapid or Volkswagen Vento, from Skoda/VW Showroom it will cost you approx 40,000-45,000/- which is Harman Brand. However if you want the system shipped with VW/Skoda in China (as claimed by him, not verified, it is not Harman Brand, but Desay Brand) then you can contact this guy called Shalinder Choudhary (Delhi) who can ship the product anywhere in India for Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento/Polo. I have heard good reviews on team-bhp for the same but no first hand experience. This would cost you around 20K (R-340G Plus model which comes with Android Audio and Apple Car play and touchscreen) including Rear Camera and canbus. You can install Pioneer Brand after market fitment with Canbus which is sold separately, to make your steering mounted audio controls work. But in terms of looks, it may not look as cohesive as the other two options, which is OEM fitment. If you want with Android Audio and Apple Car play, such a system would cost you around 35–45K including Canbus. Note that not all audio systems will work with Skoda/VW cars since they follow Canbus protocol, and Audio systems makers generally don't support Canbus out of the box. I would say, if you ever visit delhi, this Shalinder Choudhary guy is worth a try. He has a youtube channel as well. But if you want a no compromise, perfect system for shelling out extra 20k, get it done at Skoda Showroom/Authorised service center. At least in Bangalore, they do it. ——+ Now coming to Foglamps, it will spoil the beauty and design of the car. If you are okay with that, make sure you go for a reputed brand like Hella or Minda or Bosch. Make sure a proper cutout is also installed. Do remember that it will surely void the warranty of the electrical system. I have not seen anyone do that though. If you are planning to buy Skoda Rapid or Volkswagen Vento (any variant), make sure to replace the stock headlamps with Philips Xtreme vision H7 (same spec in wattage) which will give you 30% more lumens and it is a must if you want to drive on Highway at night. I did that on both my Rapid as well as Vento in the very beginning after taking it on highway just once. The stock headlamps are just not bright enough, even if with projector. If you really want all the features, go for the Ambition variant at least. You won't regret.
