What is your most interesting encounter with the police?

I got pulled over 13 times in three days. And the police weren’t kidding about it at all. They were very aggressive. I had been living in Pascagoula, Mississippi when I had trouble with my station wagon and, since my Renault R16 had a dead engine and my motorcycle wasn’t running, I took a bus to my parent’s house in Pensacola, FL to visit. I was going to take a bus back but mom offered the use of her Candy Apple Red 1966 Ford Mustang so I drove it back late Sunday night. Parked it in my drive and went to bed. The next day I got up for work. I worked 2nd shift at the local shipyard so it was very late when I got in. I had just got into traffic in town when I saw a local officer going the other way about wreck seeing the Mustang. I guess seeing his cruiser kind of dance in his lane drew me to notice him. The lights were on before he even slowed to turn around. Since he was looking right at me when his eyes bugged out I figured he wanted to talk to me. Ever seen those cartoons where the wolf’s face turns into mostly eyeballs and you hear a klaxon? Yep, those eyes. In the middle of heavy traffic he cuts around and is behind me with lights going as I was already going for a place to stop. I had not even had time to change lanes before he was all over me. On the PA he tells me to pull over (What did he think I was already doing?). I pulled into a Burger King parking lot and he yells at me to get out but keep my hands in sight and over my head. I never saw him pull in or stop! Gun out and in both hands he tells me to put my hands on the car roof. Of course, I did. He comes over and starts asking me who I am and where I live and whose car that was and is there anything in it and… I said “It’s my mom’s car and has Florida plates because my parents live in Pensacola. I’m just borrowing it because my wagon has an ignition problem. I went over on Friday night and mom loaned it to me for the week so I can get the Mercury going.” I showed my license, car information and all that and by now he has the gun holstered and is talking in a more normal voice. By that time there were three other police cars and five more officers surrounding me. All this in less than 60 seconds. I had images of a very surprised me all over the nightly news and my mom going crazy in front of the TV. Dad would be sitting there with his cigar and his eyebrows stuck to his hairline thinking “How did he get in this much trouble so fast?” So, after a mess of questions, inspections of the car interior and trunk and me being really puzzled during it all they concluded I wasn’t the one they were looking for. I didn’t know why but I was grateful anyway. I got pulled over twice more in the next three miles. Same thing except add a radio conversation between officers and a thorough search of the car. It got to the point where I was worried mom had left something in it I’d have to answer for. “Son, what do you do with this leash and towel?” “The leash is Archie’s and I think the towel is because the windshield tends to fog up. The dog likes car rides but prefers bicycles.” “Bicycle?” “Um, yes, he puts his back feet on the banana seat and his front paws over my arm and we go around the neighborhood.” “Okay, there’s no way you’re making that up. Get out of here.” By the fourth time this happened I’d just point to a parking spot or place to stop out of traffic and the officer would nod. I’d stop, we’d talk, he’d check the car’s plates and my license and we’d part ways. I started keeping my license in my front shirt pocket to save time. On the sixth stop the next morning I asked why I was getting stopped so much. I mentioned they seemed really upset. It turns out a white guy (I am one), about my age, in a Candy Apple Red 1965 Ford Mustang with plain trim (They have the same chrome and trim as the 1966 models - almost impossible to tell them apart.) had stabbed a young woman to death and dropped her dying body in the middle of a major intersection four blocks from my house on the night of the Saturday I was in Pensacola. I wanted them to catch him just a hair more than I wanted to give that car back. I put a priority on getting that ignition fixed. A few months later I started volunteering with an ambulance service a friend owned. I met a lot of officers who thought I looked awful familiar. They did catch the guy and strangely to me (as I was incredibly skinny) we looked remarkably alike, hair color, style and all. They caught him the day after I took the car back, while I was still in Pensacola.

What is the fastest you've ever driven your own car? What car was it?

1990 Mazda Miata, | ,Little Bighorn Battlefield, | ,David Graham In June 1997, I drove my 1990 Mazda Miata at 105mph (168kmph) on the way to the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument in southeastern Montana. I drove at that speed on Interstate 90 between Butte and Bozeman, and then again between Bozeman and Billings. This was back when the Montana Highway Department advised motorists to drive at a “reasonable and prudent” speed. I’d asked someone what that meant and was told, “about a hunnert.” I had the top down, and remember thinking that if I hit a jackrabbit at that speed the critter would go through my windshield like a cannonball. While I obeyed the signs and slowed down to 65 a few times as I approached exits for towns like Livingston and Laurel, studs in big rigs thundered past going 80 or 85. I wondered what it must feel like to drive a car with more horses under the hood. So in the summer of 1998 I rented a Ford Mustang convertible and did a road trip through New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. The speed restrictions in those states made me pine for the freedom of the Montanabahn. So in June 1999 I rented a Mustang and went back to the Little Bighorn. I entered Montana my usual way, through Yellowstone National Park. Headed north on U.S. 89 from Gardiner to Livingston. The first thing I saw as I merged onto the eastbound I-90 was a forbidding freeway sign. It said, “The sky is no longer the limit—75 is the limit.”

How can I figure out my car’s VIN number if I can't find the title?

If the car has not been stolen or tampered with, most cars will have a VIN plate, usually embedded under the windshield like this image: On some older vehicles you may have to dig around for it, as on this 1968 Ford Mustang:

What's better, Mustang or Camaro?

You do know it depends on who you ask, right? Cars, particularly iconic brands, marques and models are as deeply sowed into people's identity as religious, political, and sports team following. When you deprecate or criticize the car, some feel you're criticizing them - so you get an argument. Of course there are also sales people in this world - who will tell you whatever they're selling is best. Then there's car magazines that exist to sell magazines. And what you may value is not necessarily what someone else may value. So how do you decide? Start by making a list of what you want. If that's too broad, jot down what you expect to be able to do with this car. I certainly hope it doesn't involve any serious use of the back seat. Go drive a Mustang; explore several models. See if a dealer in your area has a program that will let you take a car home for the week. Then go drive a Camaro; explore several models. Ask about a trial program. The car magazines some times tout the Chevy and some times tout the Ford. Since the two companies regularly one-up each other, the magazines are on that echoing what the manufactures say. But outside of providing background information, reviews don't tell you everything. Both cars are great examples of what America can produce. Both are credits to their respective brands. And both cars have followings of loyal fans. I'm a Mustang guy from my first '68 coupe through my '19 GT350R. But I crossed over once: I bought an 1984 Camaro Z28 brand new in late '83 and drove it until 1986, when I happily replaced it with a Mustang SVO (which I still have). The Camaro was great. but the Mustang was far better, IMHO. Some things you should know: They sell more Mustangs than any other sports / GT car in the world. In most EU countries, Japan, India, and Australia, a Mustang is a status symbol. In fact for 55 years, few cars come close. There's more Mustang models to choose from than another car in it's class. And you can buy a Mustang for utility, fun (Convertible), economy (Eco-Boost), performance (GT/Bullit) or extreme performance (Shelby GT350/500). The Camaro was 2nd to the Mustang (Mustang came first). We call this market segment "pony cars" after the Mustang. By the time Chevy introduced the Camaro, Ford had sold over 1 million Mustangs. Camaros then suddenly stopped production in the early 2000s. Then they started up again in 2010. The Detroit Free Press ("the newspaper" in Detroit where the big 3 are located) says Chevy will cancel the Camaro after 2020 or 2021. So you might not even be able to buy one. Hey, they nixed Pontiac; there's no more Firebird or Trans-Am. Most people consider the current model Mustang (2015-2019) to be a better looking car than the Camaro (hint: that's a good part of the reason they sell more of them). The visibility in the Mustang is better; that's not opinion, it's a fact (the Camaro's windshield is raked at a steep angle which lowers the roof and lessens the windshield area. I brush my head on the roof of the Camaro - and I'm not that tall. I don't like the gauge layout. And even upscale Camaro models surround you with scratchy plastic, that doesn't feel / look upscale to me. There's more interior room and more trunk space in the Mustang. When it comes to performance, when optioned similarly, the two cars perform similarly. If you ratchet it up to the highest performance models, the ZL-1 doesn't compare with the new Shelby GT500 (650 vs 760 bhp). Even with a 124bhp advantage over the Shelby GT350/GT350R, the Camaro is a supercharged version of a traditional push rod operated V8 (LS7); Chevy doesn't have a technologically advanced naturally aspirated Camaro that revs to 8,250rpm like the Shelby GT350. And for all their extra bhp, the ZL-1 doesn't perform that much better than the naturally aspirated GT350 - at the track or on the street. Those that have answered below claiming the Camaro is the better performer are simply wrong. Wrong about the SS-GT comparison, wrong about the Z28-GT350R comparison, and wrong about the ZL1-GT500 comparison. And again, the Camaro will only be produced for a year or two more, so we may have to compare new Mustangs to used Camaros 2 years from now. Camaros sell at MSRP or below; the high performance Mustangs will get ADMs (Additional Dealer Markup) added to the price in metropolitan areas. Now why do you think the Camaro is marked down and the Mustang (e.g. Shelby) is marked up? Could it be that there's lots of unsold Camaros and they can't get enough Mustangs? That might explain why Chevy is cancelling the Camaro again. If it's so good, why aren't people buying it? History, corporate finance, performance number and the shear number of Mustang enthusiasts in the US and around the world provide undeniable evidence that the Mustang is the better car in the beginning, through the years, now and in the future.

How did the Ford Mustang become the bestselling sports car of 2017? How is it a sports car when it’s clearly a muscle car? Why is the world obsessed with it?

I guess the difference between a sports car and muscle car is semantics. For most people, they’re the same thing. A 100hp Miata and a Mustang are both sports cars. Why are people obsessed with it? I’m not sure they are but let me tell you something. A friend of mine at the gym just bought a brand new 2017 5.0 6 speed manual Mustang. Today I got to drive it. I’ve driven some really nice cars in the past as a mechanic at Lexus, Audi, Jaguar and others. This new Mustang as far as I’m concerned is just as bad ass as anything those high end manufacturers produced. Except maybe the super limited edition versions. It drives great, has torque down low and will rev to the sky and make power all the way. It sounds fantastic too with an aftermarket exhaust system. Steering was quick and responsive and the brakes would throw you through the windshield. Just as I remember some of the Audi “S” cars being.

How do you staple down a convertible top? I have a 2001 convertible Ford mustang. The back, by the back windshield, is not stapled down so I can’t put the top down or go to a car wash

short answer, you dont . you take it to someone who does automotive upholstery or a motor trimmer ,and get it repaired properly ,the reason . its because that car is still worth reasonable money ,[in New Zealand , very rear ]so dont devalue it with doggy repairs

What is the difference between Capitalism and corporate greed? Any examples?

The man on the right is ,Henrik Huseby. He’s just your average family man. Lives in Norway and repairs phones for a living. When you break your screen or when your phone’s headphone jack fails or your battery depreciates he repairs those parts and extends your phone’s life. Simple and honest living. Sounds nothing criminal or illegal in it right? Not for this company. Early this year Apple sued him on grounds of “,Counterfeiting,” and ordered him to pay $3,566, destroy his $18000 worth inventory and asked him quit his business. Yes, you heard it right “,Counterfeiting,”, not “,Refurbishing,” or “,Repair,”. Apple claimed that by replacing the cracked screen glass on their iPhones with a 3rd party screen glass he is turning their iPhone into “something else” which in their view is not iPhone anymore. Their logic is that, any iPhone with a 3rd party part cannot be called as an iPhone and cannot be sold as one. For the record, Your phone screen has 3 parts, “The ,Digitizer”, which detects the touch input, “the ,LCD” ,which is the screen you read and the “,Screen glass” ,which sits on top of the two parts protecting them. 95 out of the 100 scenarios a user breaks his/her screen its the glass which is broken but the screen is still usable and with a quick replacement of the glass the phone comes back to life in its stock form. Funnier part is, Apple does not sell original parts to anyone. So, if you have a problem you can only get it solved through Apple themselves for an unreasonable price. These parts generally cost less than $30 and can be installed by a 11 year old under 20 minutes. The Lawsuit was filed in Norway and the court ruled it in favour of Henrik Huseby back in July of 2018. Apple had a team of 5 lawyers and Henrik Huseby had just one on his side. Apple is now trying to re-appeal the lawsuit and a hearing is scheduled on July of 2019. Every customer who pays a premium for a product “Owns” the product and he/she must have the ,right to repair them,. ,But, When you are a corporate company and you are engulfed in greed to such a level that you restrict the market and try to take away the basic right to repair from the customer. ,Thats where Capitalism ends and Corporate greed takes the wheel. ,When you are so desperate that you try changing the definitions from Dictionary to suit your needs, there is no point for the customer to invest in your product. Its pathetic and petty. Apple did similar thing earlier with Macbook pros and Ipads too. Customers who replaced the LCD module of their screen with a 3rd party one were restricted from using their device after updating their OS. Yes, the device just wont boot and the code on the LCD module is different from the one in their OS. A deliberate restriction. For those who are still confused between the terms. Here is a little example on the difference between counterfeiting” & “Refurbishing/Repairing” a product. I own a 1995 Ford Mustang, it has a broken windshield. I’d really love to keep the car the Ford showroom tries to charge me $3000, I go to a repair shop, The shop replaces the windshield for $1000. Performs other maintenance activities and gives it to me. It’s Repair. Right??? I have a car repair shop, I’ve bought a used 1995 Ford Mustang, It had some issues, I replaced the parts and bring it to a excellent running condition and sell by the name of Ford Mustang 1995 which it really is. Its called Refurbishing. I have a car repair shop. I’ve bought a 1995 Ford Mustang in a terrible condition, restore it to a running condition and sell it on the name of a LAMBORGINI. Now that’s counterfeiting. because i’m cheating the prospective customer. But according to Apple if I as a 3rd party repair shop refurbished/repaired a Ford Mustang I cannot call it a Ford Mustang anymore since it doesn’t have Ford manufactured parts and using the name to sell it makes me a criminal. . . . P.S:, I love Apple’s software refinement and the efficiency of their product ecosystem. They produce great devices. But their business strategy still reeks cheapness.. . . Corrections and debates are welcomed, abuses are not. . . . . Notes and Sources: Apple Sued an Independent iPhone Repair Shop Owner and Lost In Groundbreaking Decision, Feds Say Hacking DRM to Fix Your Electronics Is Legal NYC Repair Tech Says Apple, U.S. Customs Seized His Batteries Following CBC Story,. Is buying and restoring an old 1967 Ford Mustang in mediocre condition a bad investment?

Yes, a it is a bad investment. If you want something to restore, drive and enjoy… then do it. I bought a nice “driver” 66 coupe for $8600. Over the next five years I dumped another $12000 in it (Rebuilt engine & trans, springs, replaced everything under the hood from the firewall forward, new windshield/rear window gaskets, stereo, interior pieces and so much more)…. I sold it to a family 3000 miles away for $9000. A nice coupe is going to be $10–15k… a convertible $20–30k… a fastback - you won’t find an affordable one, they are unicorns. Would I do it again? Probably. I’m actually looking for a new project.
