lexus gs300 sc300 Q&A Review

Is the Lexus IS300 2002 worth it?

It is a Toyota so it reliable it was called Altezza in Japan, with the 3 litre inline six from the Supra and Gs300 and Sc300 it a very reliable engine cast block and alloy heads. It had has some more grunt compared to the really under sides 1G-FE which was really a joke of in the IS200. If it’s a well looked after one has been maintenanced got all its paper work. Go for it though don’t pay much for it as it An 18 year old car now.

What are Toyota's best engines of the past 15 years? Which should be avoided?

As you know the 1NZ-FXE from 1997 is still in production today as it's the same original 4 cylinder atkinson cycle engine from the 1st generation Prius. It's the longest produced engine that Toyota still makes today as it's in the current 2017 Prius C. Toyota has a longer development cycle than any other auto maker as they tend to use the same engine designs for decades without compromising reliablity, rather than designing a whole new each time a new model comes out. If it ain't broke don't fix it. The 2JZ-GE is one of the finest engines that Toyota has ever made given it was the primary engine for the Supra. It was also used in the Lexus IS300, GS300 and SC300.

Is the 2JZ a BMW engine?

No it not a Euro Engine it’s a JDM Engine that Toyota built that went the MKIV Supra Toyota Soarer, SC300, Lexus GS300, Toyota Astrio, in natural aspirated form or Twin turbo. The Lexus IS300 had it to The was really a model for the American Market more that any where else. It replaces the perious 3.0 litre 7M-GTE that was in the Toyota Soarer. It was built from the 1JZ GTE that was the Mark III Supra. It is an 2.5 litre I6 engine it actually quite common for modifying putting the 1JZ gte head on the the Block of the 2JZ to make a 1.5 JZ GTE.

Which cars have the 2JZ engine?

If you're asking about cars sold in the US, it's a much simpler list: Twin Turbo (2JZ-GTE): Mk 4 Supra Twin Turbo Non-Turbo (2JZ-GE): Toyota Supra non-turbo, Lexus GS300, SC300, IS300

What was Lexus' starting lineup in 1990?

It was a very simple lineup to begin with. On the bottom there was the ES250, based on the Toyota Camry, with a 2.5-litre V6 and 4-speed automatic only. Then, there was the LS400, which arrived a few months earlier, in late 1989. That had a 4-litre V8 and 4-speed automatic only. By 1992, that had grown to include the GS300, the SC300 and SC400, and the LX450. By comparison, Infiniti’s lineup was much more stuffed to start, and yet, less of these cars made an impact. They had the G20, M30, and Q45 to start. Nobody remembers the M30 these days. The J30 made no impact either. Neither did the I30 or it’s successors. It took Infiniti until 2004 to create a brand identity as strong as the one Lexus had right from the start.

Would a Toyota Supra be a good first car?

No. As ,Ben Deneweth says,, a good example of the JZA80 / Mk IV Supra is going to be a very valuable car that would be a real shame to crash while learning to drive. An older one would probably be found in bad condition and would be a reliability nightmare, not to mention that it wouldn’t have airbags. I’d argue against owning a sports car as one’s first car, but if you really wanted something similar to a Supra, I’d suggest picking up one of the Lexus models with the same engine as the non-turbo Supra: the SC300 (1991–2000), the GS300 (1991–2005), or the IS300 (1999–2005).

How bad of an idea would it be for a high schooler to buy a 1998 Lexus gs300/Toyota aristo s300, with 22000 miles, I would be paying for maintanence, gas and anything else. Insurance about $800 a year! Let me know if this would be a good buy?

Based on my experience owning one a 1997 Lexus SC300 coupe with a 5-speed manual transmission, I think it would be a good choice, assuming you can afford it. Any Lexus will be very reliable and not that expensive to maintain if you use a competent independent mechanic (not a dealership). My Lexus was the more trouble-free vehicles I have ever owned. Much more so than my current BMW, which has required several expensive ($1500+ each) repairs even though I have only 30,000 miles on the clock.

Should I get my 19-year-old son what he wants, a Lexus, or just buy a him used Toyota or Honda?

I just sold my 2004 Lexus ES330 with 147k miles for $3500. That would make a pretty good car for a young person. It’s nice enough that you’d want to take care of it and reliable enough that you don’t have to worry about it breaking down. It’s a mid-size sedan, not slow, but not a race car at all. The price is right for a gift car for your kids. However, if he wants a brand new one, I’d say hell no to my own kids. FYI, you should know that the Lexus SC300 (somewhat rare now), the GS300, and IS300 have many, many aftermarket parts that will convert them into “racer” cars. The SC300 manual version is super-rare because many people convert them into a sort-of Toyota Supra. If he’s asking specifically for one of these, it’s because he’s going to start spending all his money on aftermarket parts to modify the car. Engine swaps are popular on these cars as well. FYI, my first car in 1998 was a 1994 Honda Civic DX. It was the base model. It didn’t have A/C, didn’t have power windows or power locks, and it had a manual transmission. I LOVED that car. I learned how to change the oil first. Then I learned how to do all sorts of things. I installed A/C myself from spare parts from eBay. I installed a car alarm and power locks. I bought a broken Si transmission on eBay, fixed it, and installed it myself. Just get him a reliable working car.
