Mazda 2 (now cancelled), Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, Mitsubishi Mirage I will state this way Mazda 2: Cancelled. That said it is a Good car. Better handling. Also has a very good reliability record though probably still not quite as good 10 to 20 years from now as the Toyota will be. Honda Fit: Much better space utilization with sportier handling than the Yaris. Honda automatic transmissions are weak though. Get a manual transmission with this one if you want it to last a very long time. Nissan Versa: I have driven this one myself several times and it is a nice little car (at least the earlier model was). It is quieter and rides better than the Yaris but the handling may even be less than the Yaris. You can tell where Nissan was budget limited because the dashboard in these rattle like a plastic bucket full of lego pieces. Also the chassis on this car is not very stiff. The cowl shakes quite a bit and you can tell when driving that the chassis is not particularly rigid. However, It is a pleasant car to live with that also has very good interior space utilization. I like how the back seat actually has room for two full sized, TALL adults. The downfall for the Versa is that it only has an average reliability record. It will break and fall apart long before the Yaris does. Mitsubishi Mirage: This one is curious. I wouldn’t necessarily call it bad. However, with a 3 cylinder engine and unknowns regarding build quality and long term reliability I think the others above are all better values for the money than this buzz saw. The only one of these i have not experienced in person is the Mirage. I don’t think I would like it as much. I have a 2007 Yaris myself. It is not the best in class for refinement and handling but it still has safe and competent handling. It may well have the best reliability of any car in its class and gets very good gas mileage. It is easy to get well over 40MPG on the highway with it if you have the manual transmission. It is a car that you can keep for many years and know that it will be very reliable if you take care of it The automatic transmissions on Toyotas are some of the most reliable so no problem in having the automatic on a Yaris if that is what you want. Just make sure to change the transmission fluid and filter at the correct intervals and you’ll get years of worry free service from the automatic.
Which models does the Toyota Yaris primarily compete with? How do they compare?
Excellent question, and I hope some auto manufacturers are reading this… Beginning with the original Model T pickup truck, and culminating with the Japanese “mini-trucks,” America has usually had at least a couple compact pickup choices. Smaller 4-cylinder trucks were light, nimble, fuel efficient, reliable and pretty capable for their size. The smallest pickup sold in the U.S. today is the Nissan Frontier, which technically is considered a mid-sized pickup. It was the next step up from the popular Hardbody pickups, which became a staple in North America and the world. While Ford is making a “new” Ranger now, it’s substantially larger than the original Ranger. It also comes loaded with four doors, a cropped bed, and numerous luxuries, making it more of a crossover pickup than a true working truck. Despite the fact that this question emerges repeatedly in various forms, both on Quora and across the web, it appears that the manufacturers aren’t listening. This could be because a smaller vehicle commands a smaller price, and thus a lower profit margin. This could also be because it’s more difficult to make a smaller vehicle “safe” by today’s standards. Finally it may be that the majority of the public have indicated in surveys and focus group that there really isn’t a huge demand for compact trucks today. I do know, that extremely compact cars and SUV’s are indeed popular. These include cars such as the Toyota Yaris, Kia Rio, Nissan Leaf, Chevy Spark and more. If these can be built safely and sold in large numbers, then why not small pickups? These could include electric and hybrid powertrains, as well as 2 or 4-door models. Thanks for the good question!
Sigh. YES, I DO. Try typing, “Yaris XP36-A” into Google or any competent search engine and you’ll have the answer yourself in seconds. The web - IT’S MAGIC! Please use Quora bandwidth wisely. The vast majority of basic questions can be answered INDEPENDENTLY.
Something which requires hands-on diagnosis to determine the root cause and what the proper repair is. Or, you can listen to the assmonkeys on Quora who are inevitably going to appear and suggest you start throwing parts at it. It’s your money, so do as you please.
Toyota. Don’t get me wrong. Toyota focuses on safety, durability and reliability worldwide and even in Indian version of cars. To meet these three aspects and to keep competitive pricing with respect to it’s competition, toyota does away with many additional accessories and features which strip the toyota vehicles of style and hence they are not at all a popular choice by Indian youth. (In fact, in most of the quora answers from Indian writers regarding cars, you will hardly find any mention of a toyota vehicle while the trend is just reverse when you see similar from other countries.) As for your query, The entry level etios family of cars have received 4 star Global NCAP rating with ‘Stable Body Shell”. The second point is important in a crash or rollover of vehicle. ,Made-in-India Etios gets four-star Global NCAP crash test rating,. Just note one thing here, VW polo vivo scored three stars in the same test. Their C2 segment sedan Yaris got five star in ASEAN NCAP rating better than Honda city and equivalent to Civic while costing a good 7.5 lakh less than Honda civic. ,Toyota Yaris scores 5 stars in ASEAN NCAP safety rating Toyota Innova Crysta: The best selling MPV model from Toyota in India has got 4 star safety rating for both adult & Child occupants in ASEAN NCAP crash test. The higher version of crysta with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) has received 5 stars. ,http://www.aseancap.org/v2/?p=3691 Toyota Corolla Altis, the premium sedan from Toyota has received 5 stars in both ASEAN & EURO NCAP ratings. ,http://www.aseancap.org/v2/?p=3481,. ,Official Toyota Corolla 2013 safety rating results It is only that Toyota doesn’t brag about the safety of their cars like every other manufacturer who sell their cars in India. Toyota Awarded for Excellent Safety Standards and Continuous Safety Improvement by Southeast Asia's Vehicle Safety Assessment Programme Even the staunchest critic of Toyota would also agree that if driven properly and the annual servicing done regularly, toyota cars refuse to fail. You will find a lot of 10 years or older toyota qualis/innovas/ etioses/corollas with more than 2 lakh kilometers in their odometer while you will find only a handful of Volkswagen or Skoda cars at this point and almost no Hyundai cars. They are bulit to last. Tata is the first Indian brand which has announced a policy to make at least 4 star rated vehicles. This is a very good initiative but the longevity of these vehicles are to be time tested. Edit: ,Since few comments mentioned that Toyota is not budget friendly in India, let us do a little maths. Toyota doesn’t offer any car model in the most budget friendly hatchback sections (A &B1). Their offering in Budget cars are ,Etios as Sedan, Etios Liva as B2 hatch and Etios Cross as Crossover hatch. ,Now as I mentioned, all these cars have secured Four Star NCAP safety ratings for their Indian versions, too( This is important as the European version of Suzuki swift gets 4 & 5 stars depending on variants but the Indian version got only 2). In B2 section of hatch back cars, the other Indian models which have at least four star NCAP ratings are ,VW Polo, Hyundai i20, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon(only car in this segment with 5 star global NCAP ratings) . Now, as on date, price of Toyota Etios Liva ranges between Rs 5.67 lakh to 6.69 lakh for the petrol variant and 7 lakh to 7.84 lakh for diesel(Ex Showroom, Delhi). Hyundai elite i20 is priced between Rs 5.5 lakh- Rs 8.06 lakhs for petrol and Rs 6.88–9.31 lakhs for diesel variants (all manual, ex showroom, Delhi). VW Polo costs 5.75 lakhs - 7.69 lakh for the petrol manual and 7.27–9.14 lakhs for diesel manual models. Vitara Brezza & Nexon are costlier by at least 1 lakh rupees from the entry levels. Obviously, the cheapest car in this section, Tata Tigor is yet to be tested by NCAP. If you compare the lower variants of these cars, they have similar features and are similarly priced. Considering Toyota’s legendary durability, reliability and low maintenance than similarly priced cars from other manufacturers, Toyota, in the long run beats it’s competitors hands down in cost of ownership. The higher versions of i20 and polo are feature rich, but are costlier than the highest version of etios liva, too by at least 1 lakh rupees. Hence, it boils down to the fact that you pay more to get more features but as far as safety is concerned, toyota is the cheapest car to own in the most budget segment where safety matters.
Are you serious? No really are you seriously asking Quora on how to turn on the headlights of a Toyota Yaris?? If you had been in a car you would already know by now tbh..
Well that could be one of the dumbest questions ever asked on Quora, at least for the US market. They are the same vehicle. The Yaris is a re branded Mazda 2 built by Mazda.
