I am looking to buy a sedan petrol car before end of February. My final short lists are Honda City iVtec V variant and Toyota Yaris G variant. I liked both but could not decide which one. I like the rear seat comforts, LED headlamps, good mileage in Honda City.. I like robust body build quality, 7 air bags, front & rear park sensors, frontal design (sharp nose) and some adv. features like windshield IR filter etc in Yaris. For me the engine performance of both seems quite similar. Many reviews cited that Yaris is pricy, but the on-road price of City V variant and Yaris G variant (doesn’t have alloy wheels, reverse camera) costs the same 12.45 Lakhs in our local showroom, along with that Yaris has got extra offers. Acc. to me the advantage in Yaris over weigh the adv. of City. But all the reviews online were against Yaris and supporting City and Hyundai Verna ( which i find it very tiny fro a sedan class). Can anyone share your opinion.
For manual mode “,Toyota Yaris G,” model is very practical and will prove value for money. If you are considering an automatic model then go for ,“G CVT”, model it is there highest selling model and currently Toyota are giving a good discount on Yaris. Both model comes with petrol engine. Price of ,G Model, ex showroom Delhi is around 10.4 L(on road price) and if you bargain well it will cost you under 10 L. Price of ,G CVT, Model ex showroom Delhi is around 13.6 L(on road price). The practical average of both these cars will be around 13–14 Kmpl in city condition and around 16 Kmpl on the highways.
Hundai verna has more features , lesser price, high power engine and safety wise will be good. Negatives will be low mileage and higher cost of ownership when compared to Yaris. Yaris being Toyota is a 5 star ncap rated safest car and even base varient itself has 7 airbags. Verna has 6 in top model. Even Toyota Etios being sold to travels itself has 4 star rating. You just imagine how much this company concentrates on safety. And it has lesser power engine when compared to Verna but mileage will be higher. Toyota is known for its lowest cost of ownership. Yes it is constlier but it deserves its price. It is feature less when compared to Verna but it has right whishles for safety. Some of them are you cant lock the car from outside when you left the car key inside. Even if you lock the car from inside with keys inside the car, driver door remain unlocked. It has slipper breaks means during sudden stopping if your legs slips from break, the car will be stopped by sensing how fast you released the accelerator pedal. Finally if you want safer car with Better mileage, low.cost of ownership, little bit higher legroom go for Yaris G varient ( Manual or automatic ) which will have push button start, speed sending door lock and unlock, adjustable front and rear headrests like features. I have attached the feature list as well but I won't have alloy wheel and If you require get them fitted in outside market.yaris G manual variant right now cost 1280000 on road Chennai. ( Reference Harsha Toyota) If you want safer, peppier engine but ok with little bit reduced mileage and little bit higher cost of ownership go for Verna top end as(o)( top only offers ventilated seats, push button start, rear adjustable headrests like features. It comes 1394000 on road Chennai ( reference kun hundai) I can see most of the people speaking like indian varient and European varient has difference but hundai doesn't compromise safety on top model in Verna and Toyota doesn't compromise on safety even from its hatchbacs ( base varient liva and Etios scored 4 stars) Hope it will be helpful for everyone. But test drive from your end and buy which one comes close to your heart.
As your budget goes up to 12L, I will not suggest you compact sedans. I would recommend that you increase your budget a little to ,13L on road,. This will get you sufficiently equipped petrol ,mid size sedan with automatic transmission,. Your choice can be : Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI Ambition AT: 12.97L Toyota Yaris G Optional CVT: 13.0L I have omitted the Maruti Ciaz due to its comparatively light build quality and very old and slow 4-speed autobox. The Automatic variants of Honda City and Hyundai Verna will cost you up to 14L. But in my opinion, the Rapid and Yaris will provide you most value for money. Here are the merits of each one. Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI Ambition AT World renowned, and advanced 1.0 TSI ,Turbo Petrol engine, with 110 Hp and 175 Nm Quick shifting, smooth and reliable 6-speed Torque converter automatic Skoda’s good build quality with comprehensive 6 years warranty and service package Exterior Features: ,15 Inch Alloys, Projector Headlamps with LED DRLs, Front and Rear Foglamps, Rear Defogger, , Rear Parking Sensors, Electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs Comfort Features,: Auto AC, 8 inch Android Touchscreen Music System, Steering mounted Audio Controls, Front and Rear Armrests, Rear AC vents, All Adjustable Headrests, 460L Boot space Some Unique Features:, Tilt and Telescopic Steering Adjustment, Auto Dimming IRVMs, One touch down on all Windows, Tinted Windows and Windscreen, Remote Controlled Power Windows Drawbacks:, Only 4 color options in Ambition Trim, Interiors though good quality may feel too bland and simple, Floor tunnel in rear seat is prominent and hampers leg space for middle 3rd passenger, Fuel efficiency marginally lower than manual Toyota Yaris G Optional CVT: 13.0L Toyota’s renowned solid build quality and very high reliability CVT is very smooth and jerk free, fuel efficiency higher than manual Exterior Features: ,Dual tone Color with Black Roof,, ,Diamond Cut, ,Alloys, Projector Headlamps, Front and Rear Foglamps, Rear Defogger , Rear Parking Sensors, Electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs Comfort Features,: Push Button Start/Stop with Smart Entry, Auto AC, Steering mounted Audio Controls, Rear Armrest, All Adjustable Headrests, 476L Boot space Some Unique Features:, 7 Airbags (including side, knee and curtain), Steering Mounted Paddle Shifters, Roof Mounted Air Vent with Ambient Lights, 4.2 inch color MID display Drawbacks:, ,No Music System ,though has 4 speakers and steering controls(above image is of V Option), No Front Armrest, During sudden acceleration there is noticeable Lag in CVT due to Rubber band effect Both the cars have their own merits and demerits and you should test both extensively to gauge which one suits your needs the best. The fit finish levels are very good for both the cars and both feel premium. However, performance wise I would recommend the Rapid. But if you need very high reliability, Yaris must be the choice. Still,, if you wish, to go for the top end variant of a ,compact sedan,, ,Honda Amaze, is the best choice. You can have the highly fuel efficient VX CVT Diesel for 11.29L or the smooth and refined VX CVT Petrol for 9.80L.
