Hi all! Toyota Yaris Oil just got published: http://trim.su/5gnK (by apopayclarT) at BH > Forums!
That oil is a bit on the heavy side, and unless you live in an extremely hot climate, I wouldn't recommend it. Why not just use the recommended oil, that is listed on the filler cap? An oil that heavy would be good for high rpm applications, or when the temperature is going to 40°C or above.
Any API certified 0W-20 synthetic motor oil will do.
0w20 or 5w20 and if you like to floor it mostly or enjoy speed than 5w30 will provide better safety at this kind of driving style.
Toyota’s spec of their 75W fluid, in reality is a synthetic 75W-85 viscosity with the newer non-sulfur/phosphorous additive technology. If you put thicker oil in it, or one with the sulfur/phos additives, you will ruin it. Besides the Toyota brand, you can find others if you really look. I sell a similar product, but not in the US.
Unless you’re driving 7,000 miles a month and leaving it idling overnight or mistaking kilometers for miles….Your poor little motor is probably pretty upset with life right now. I’d guess bad piston rings, maybe a bad head gasket, and/or bad oil pan or other major oil seal gasket. Could also be major valve seat issues, but that’s fairly unlikely in a fairly recently made car, not that any part of your problem seems very common.
by impaired vision, maybe it would help to put glasses on. i mean why else would it be “hard” to read the oil level on a dipstick, its not like it was 0.2 millimeter small and even a blind person could read the oil level by simply putting a hand on the dipstick.
Yes. Transmission fluid (ATF) changes color as it ages. It typically starts out bright pinkish-red and turns a muddy, dark, brownish maroon color as the miles pile up. I would have the transmission fluid *exchanged*. This is a process where a machine is connected into the transmission cooler lines. The machine is programmed with the correct amount of fluid the transmission holds. The machine, when connected and turned on, will simultaneously feed new fluid into the transmission while pushing out the old fluid and capturing it for recycling. This process will *exchange* 100% of the old fluid with new fluid. Do not confuse a transmission fluid drain with a fluid exchange …and make sure the shop understands *exactly* what you want. Many shops, ones that do not have the machine, will drain and drop the transmission pan. The service usually includes a new filter and cleaning the pan. They will then reinstall the filter and pan with a new gasket. The problem with the drain procedure is it only changes out a small amount of the total amount of transmission fluid. Given the color of your fluid, you need to *exchange* 100% of it. Part of the exchange process may include a “cleaning” cycle where a flushing agent is run through the transmission prior to installing the new fluid. IMHO, just avoid the cleaning cycle. You are most prone to have issues if the cleaning cycle does not flush out debris that may come loose with the cleaning cycle. Just go with the fluid exchange.
Yes, but do not flush it or otherwise disturb contents that won't drain out. You can drain & fill a few times to get more of the old fluid out of the torque converter. Of course run the shifter through all gears with the motor running after each fill.
You will still wish to employ the use of a quality API certified ,5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil. ,Synthetic is key for it will not sludge as conventional oils tend to do in extreme heat.
