Not at all. A Camry and definitely an Avalon would ride much smoother than a Yaris or a Corolla. Also they will ride as well or better than an SUV (the closest riding equivalent to a Camry/Avalon would be the Highlander which is based on the same architecture). Although suspension tuning certainly has a roll to play, ultimately a longer wheelbase and a wider track will typically make for a smoother ride.
I worked in UAE for 4yrs. I use to own Ford Fusion 2.0L 240HP EcoBoost as below pictures. It costed me 1,15,000 AED (Rs.23,34,000) on-road includes, 1yr insurance, 1yr registration, 5yrs warranty, 3yrs service. Same car in India shall cost Rs. 23,34,000 + 28% GST + 20% Cess + 17% Registration (Hyd >4m vehicles) + 5% insurance = Rs.43 Lacs atleast Ex-Showroom price in India includes below taxes, which makes vehicles very expensive. Cars <4-Mtrs petrol <1.2 ltr= 28%GST+1% Cess=29% Cars <4-Mtrs diesel <1.5 ltr = 28%GST+3%Cess=31% Cars <4-Mtrs (petrol>1.2 liter/diesel>1.5L)= 28%GST+15% Cess= 43% Cars >4-Metres <1.5 ltr = 28%GST+15% Cess= 43% Cars > 4 mtrs > 1.5 ltr = 28% GST +20% Cess = 48% SUVs > 4mtrs = 28% GST+22% Cess = 50% Hybrid Vehicles= 28% GST+15% Cess= 43% Electric Vehicles = 5% GST ‐-------------------------------------------------------- UAE/India on-road prices:- Honda Civic VX AMT = Rs.14 Lacs/ Rs.23 Lacs Honda city CVT =Rs.10.5 lacs/Rs.14.5 lacs Honda CRV 2WD = Rs.18 Lacs/Rs.33.5 lacs Toyota Fortuner 2.7AMT= Rs.20Lacs/Rs.39 Lacs Honda Accord AMT= Rs.21Lacs/Rs.51 lacs Toyota Camry AMT = Rs.18Lacs/ Rs.45Lacs Toyota Prius Hybrid= Rs.17 Lacs/ Rs.54Lacs Toyota Yaris VX CVT= Rs.11.7 lacs/ 16.5 Lacs. Hyundai Tucson AMT = Rs.18Lacs / Rs.26 lacs Hyundai Elantra AMT = Rs.14 Lacs/ Rs.23.4Lacs ‐----'----------------------------------------- UAE attracts 5% GST. Annual registration+insurance =2% of car value after depreciation. Car loan interest-rate= 5% max. Auto companies in India are tired of requesting tax reduction in the Auto-sector, but somehow Indian govt is not consumer-friendly in case of auto taxes. Over to that our taxes per liter of petrol/diesel is around 85% to 96% on OMC price to dealer. Toyota leading in Middle- Eastern countries. Starting models in UAE are Toyota Camry (All taxi's), Chevrolet Cruze, Mazda 3, Toyota Yaris, Kia Optima, Nissan Altima, Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Yaris, Honda Civic. ‐---------------- Conclusion: Personally, I'm against the uneven concentration of taxes in the Indian Auto sector. Tax is heavily concentrated at vehicle sales & petrol/diesel prices. It should be distributed evenly across the Auto-industry. Like 18% GST shall be max. on any vehicle. 28% is too high irrespective of the car model. As per govt., approx. loss by reducing GST to 18% is around 40,000 cr. annually. 2019–20 cars+commercial vehicle sales were 4million, which means govt. losing Rs.1 lac tax/car, but this will improve consumer saving, spending & growth-rate in other sectors. It is equivalent to pumping Rs.40,000cr/annum in other sectors. Cess shall be completely removed on vehicles. Logically “Environmental-Cess” shall be applied to fuel usage, not on devices that use them. Cess shall be paid for petrol/diesel purchases but not for vehicle purchases. Bring petrol/diesel to 28%GST and apply environmental 10% cess. Still, the price will be less than Rs.60/ltr at $65per barrel. Toll-charges can be increased by 10–15paisa for passenger vehicles, which is currently at around or less than Rs.1.1/km Vehicle registration shall be locked to 12% max. Gst. New policies for ‘Ethanol-100′ Flex-fuel vehicles can be introduced, by allowing ethanol import (currently restricted). This will create new jobs, business, more tax, more forex for govt. New policies for 100% CNG/Hybrid CNG vehicles can be introduced. India need more “underpass or overpass interchanges” like below pics at various “traffic signal junctions” in cities to ease vehicle congestion. Majority of ‘Traffic signals’ within cities shall be replaced with interchanges.
I have 3 cars. My latest purchase is the 718 Boxster GTS in the picture. I still own a Lexus CT200h and a Toyota Yaris (also Hybrid). I have owned Lexus for years, they are the best premium cars you can buy, reliable, not that expensive, wonderful cars for daily drives and long trips but, as all hybrid (we don’t have much engines in Europe on Lexus models), they lack something: ,They aren’t fun,. I switched my Lexus SUV for this Boxster and I feel alive again. I’ve owned many sport cars in the past (when I was with no kids ;) ) but this one is kinda incredible. I’ve owned a 911 a long time ago but this has nothing in common. It’s a GTS version and, to be honest, I kinda regret not buying a less “extreme” version. I should have bought a S version. The GTS is a bit not civilized enough to be used in our European cities (especially with all the “race” features/options mine has). Don’t get me wrong, it’s a wonderful car, top performances, handling and overall quality. And it’s not that expensive. But it’s somehow too much…too much power, too easy to drive fast, too noisy for a small city like the one I live in (100k inhabitants, but probably everybody knows me now ;) or at least my noisy Porsche)…however, I feel so alive when I get in it that these regrets will disappear soon ;)
Hyundai Verna a package of Bold and attractive Design, powerful Engine, bunch of Comfort features and gizmos with slight premium pricing. Hyundai has best after sales service after Maruti Suzuki in India. Ownership cost is bit costlier because of its premium offering. It has proved reliablity and a well hold in indian market in premium segments like i20,Verna ,Creta and Tucson. So it will give you a peace of mind owning it over any other brand’s car other than Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. On the Other hand Toyota Yaris with bit average in looks, smaller wheels, best cabin space and comfort at back with bunch of new segment features like rear roof Ac vents with only limited option of petrol less powered engine with more fuel efficiency in its competition.Toyota has bullet proof reliablity image for its SUVs so will have same for their sedans as expected. On the price point of view yaris has also been priced bit more than its competitors but it justifies that. For me it will be actually Mind and Heart game with Mind as Toyota Yaris and Heart as Hyundai Verna. Better you should experience both of the car yourself by having a test drive and decide on your parameters like you requirements and which appeals you more. Hope this helps for you.
Both are from different segment. Toyato Yaris is sedan while XUV500 IS SUV.
A long time ago, I was an ambulance driver and EMT. From my observations, there are ,no, "safe" vehicles, there are only "safe" ,drivers,. The one vehicle popularly touted as being "safest" is not a vehicle that I could be coerced to own. I own several older Jeeps with no hard roofs. My wife drives a Toyota Yaris (40mpg), which I like a lot. I don't feel at all uncomfortable with that arrangment. Learn to be an excellent driver, capable of getting out of the widest possible variety of problem situations, then drive a high-efficiency vehicle. An SUV won't save you from becoming quadriplegic, excellent driving skills will.
Tata Tiago, Toyota Lia, Ford Figo among the hatchbacks. Toyota Etios, Honda Amaze, Tata Tigore in mid sedans Honda city, Toyota Yaris, Toyota Corolla in Sedan segment. Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 300, Ford Ecosport, Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster for sub SUVs. Toyota Innova and Mahindra Marazzo for MUVs. Tata Hexa, Toyota Fortunner, Ford Endeavor among SUVs. Never buy Maruti Suzuki cars of any kind because they are real death cages. Their service set ups have become unreliable. Otherwise I would always love VW Polo for a hatchback and perhaps a Vento for a sedan.
