toyota yaris sunroof Q&A Review

Which is better, a Toyota Yaris or a Honda City?

Toyota Yaris, hands down! Just check the build quality and the fit and finish of both cars inside out to find that clear difference. Typically, the new City gives a tough competition to most Maruti cars — dabba build; not to mention the niggles many Honda owners of the outgoing City faced. True, the petrol engine in Honda is a gem and could possibly be more fun to drive over the Toyota petrol — in manual version. But then, the drivabilty and smoothness of Yaris CVT is miles ahead of City CVT! Longevity of the heart of the car? Take the life of any Honda engine and double it. That will be the Toyota’s. Service and maintenance costs? Just get your Toyota serviced as per schedule at their service centers and you don't need to spend any, except for the wear and tear parts like brake pads, clutch plates and yes, tyres. Nothing beyond. Ask any Honda owner to know the service and parts replacement expenses- more expensive relatively with lesser life span. Coming specifically to Safety, Yaris is provided with 7 airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP etc. right from its base variant. No wonder it is said (metaphorically though) that a Toyota outlives its owner :) City is for someone who values good-for-nothing frills like a sunroof (in India? ha..ha..the Jokers!) So my pick will be Yaris. Any day:)

What are the new features in Toyota Yaris 2018 in India?

Toyota showcased its C-segment offering, the Yaris sedan, at the ,Auto Expo 2018,. Expected that the Yaris is offered with a 1.5 L VVT petrol engine. Rumoured that 1.4L Diesel engine may not make it to India due to emission norms. Toyota is planning to launch diesel engine with BS-6 emissions norms directly. The engine is followed by a 6 speed manual or 7 speed CVT automatic. Coming to features, Toyota Yaris packs all the premium features required for a c- segment sedan. It packs 7 airbags with tyre pressure monitoring system, dual tone dash, leather wrapped steering , centrally mounted 7 inch touch screen, front and rear parking sensors, vehicle stability control and hill-start assist, ABS (anti-lock brakes) with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution) and brake assist, four disc brakes and ISOFIX child seat anchors, adjustable three-neck restraints for the rear seat,a roof-mounted rear AC with ambient lighting cabin, a powered driver’s seat, and a reversing camera. Have a glance at the Yaris cabin. Some missing features! Yaris lacks some premium feels with the absence of android auto/apple car play. We all expect a panaromic sunroof from a Japanese jaint , launching a c-segment car. But Toyota failed to offer sunroof, while it's rivals like Honda City offer it. Though we all may not like the front beak like Yaris face( I don't like it. I mentioned it hoping some more people will join with me) , it offers a great value to your money, standing out in it's Toyota' reliability and service. Well! Test drive every c segment car you like and buy one you like for yourself.

Why isn't the Toyota Yaris selling as much as its rivals in India even though it boasts segment-first features?

The Toyota Yaris was very late to the mid size sedan segment, which at one point was a very popular segment. At a time when it's popularity was decreasing, Toyota launched its Yaris with the hope that Toyota batch will help it win customers. And fair enough, when it was showcased at the auto expo in 2018 it created quite a stir. But it has flopped majorly as: Looks: ,It looks way too bland and despite having some well designed bits like the front end, grille etc they don't really come together to give a stunning effect. It's more like individual elements doing their thing. The tyres also spoil its side profile look. Compare it to the city or Verna which are both great looking cars and you'll know that I'm talking about. Anyways not a major con as looks are to each person's taste. Interiors: ,Well, not a major con but despite having a neat interior, it's quality is nothing to write about. It has many hard plastics and the faux stitching meant to replicate leather looks more tacky than premium. Features: ,Despite having best in class safety features and Some very unique features such as the roof mounted ac vents, it doesn't have the feel good features buyers in this segment want like a sunroof, cooled seats, led lights etc. Engine: ,It was launched with a sole petrol engine option which was adequate at best. Verna and City had far more exciting petrols and diesels. Price: ,At launch, it was priced around 3.5 lakh more than a Ciaz, 1.5 lakh more than a Verna and about 50k more than a city! Also it's high prices meant that it's range overlapped with the hugely popular Creta which appealed more to buyers. All in all, the Yaris was not only late, it was not a car that did something which made it stand out, other than safety perhaps. Ciaz was fantastic value, Verna was a strong performer, superbly equipped and felt premium whereas City was a brilliant car to drive and be driven in. Yes it had some positives such as a decent back seat, decent ride and handling and of course class best safety features. But at the end of the day, it was just a good car among better alternatives. Cheers!

My budget is ₹18 lakhs. Which car should I buy?

Petrol/Diesel? 7 seater/5 seater? SUV/Sedan? Automatic/manual? With a budget of 18 lakhs, there is a wide range of cars to choose from 7 seater with somewhat good off roading abilities - Choose between the Mahindra XUV500 or Tata Hexa. Tata Hexa which a better 3rd row and boot space with the 3rd row up. Hexa is more MPV whereas XUV500 is a SUV For a 5 seater, Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier. Hyundai Creta being the chart topper, obviously is a great choice. Tata Harrier being the newest, and also very funky in design will surely grab attention Renault Duster Facelift and Nissan Kicks are about to launch soon. Renault Duster is well suited for rugged usage. Just in case, you desire a, Sedan, Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Toyota Yaris are the options. Hyundai Verna is feature rich but lacks rear leg room, Honda City is also feature rich. Toyota Yaris has 7 airbags but lacks sunroof and not as spacious as a Honda City Final Verdict- Mahindra XUV500 is a great choice at 18 lakhs. But if you need a Sedan, Honda City is a good choice. If you need a 5 seater, I would suggest the Hyundai Creta

Should I pay full amount to dealer before the delivery of the car?

Definitely not! Here is a little story of why not. ~A few years ago I was driving around in a Toyota Yaris, which was coming up to time to change. I went to the Toyota dealer in Lincoln, and ordered a new one, red with an optional extra of a sunroof. The colour was quite important as I was a highways officer, and needed a vehicle that people would see at a distance. I put down a two thousand pound deposit. They said that I would have to wait three months, until July for it to be ready. Late June I went up to Lincoln, a sixty mile round trip, and called in at the dealers to check the arrangements for delivery. They had forgotten to order it!!! I was offered a black one with a sunroof, or the colour I wanted, but without the sunroof! Or I could wait three months for one to my specifications! I promptly cancelled the order, as I was not even being offered any sort of discount or freebies for the inconvenience. So I went across the road and ordered a Polo, with sunroof, sadly again a three month wait, but it arrived on time, was cheaper, and a much better car all round! I also had to remind that dealership twice to get my money refunded!

Is Toyota Yaris an economical car when talking about gas/fuel consumption?

We had 3 different Yaris models in our family: 1. 2003 3 doors, 1.3 86 HP with manual transmission, without air conditioning – bought as new from dealer. Great car for those years, average fuel consumption was between 6-6,5 l/100km (36-40 mpg) with quite youngish driving style. 2. 2003 Yaris Verso 1.5 106 HP with manual transmission and with manual air conditioning - bought as used with 200kkm millage. Too old, to keep it for long, but brilliant for my wife: easy in&out, lot of space, 2 sunroofs, many handy tricks in the interior. Average fuel consumption was between 7-8 l/100km (33-30mpg) thanks to its quite powerful engine for this kind of car (acceleration surprised many VW Golf owners ) 3. 2013 5 doors, 1.3 99 HP with CVT transmission, with automatic, dual zone climate control– bought as new from dealer. Superb equipped and comfy small car for wife and kid. Average fuel consumption was between 6-8 l/100km (36-29 mpg) depending on drivers mood (It could even reach 5 l/100 if you were calm, but also could exceed 9 on average if you push hard) Never had basic 1.0 for a longer time, but after some test drives I've decided to get 1.3 – laziness and noise of 1.0 was for me too big to choose it despite of some fuel savings.

Which is the best car under Rs. 1,500,000 in India in both sedan and SUV segments?

First and foremost, I myself own a Honda City VX Diesel :) Answering to your question here: Sedan in Diesel (MT) - Honda City/Hyundai Verna (I dont consider any Maruti because they aren’t that safe on road) Sedan in Diesel (Auto) - Volkswagon Vento/Skoda Rapid (personally I would prefer Rapid for its looks. However, both offers superior build quality and performance and aces the competition) Sedan in Petrol (MT/AT) - Honda City any day and night. Toyota Yaris is also a good option here. MPV - Tata Hexa’s base model comes here as the winner for a SUV like MPV. You can also buy Nixon here which is a winner for compact ones. I never consider Ertiga, Ecosport, blah blah as an option. However, Honda WRV is a good option if sunroof is your priority. SUV - Renault Duster (4x4) is the best bet. However, Tata Safari Storme is also a very good option in 4x2 option (My point of putting Storme here is because of the reason that Indian Army replaced the outgoing Gypsy after 2 years of rigorous testing of Safari Storme in every terrain) Why I opted for City Diesel? 1. Fuel efficiency: My monthly running is close to 3000 km and sometimes over, so I needed fuel efficiency. After 3 months and 9000 km, my car is giving me a mileage of 22.4 kmpl even after driving in upper Himalayas. Ciaz is a tad better here. 2. Safety, Cabin feel and Build quality is great. However, in Safety and Build quality both Vento and Rapid ace here. 3. After sale service: Honda City is still a cheap car to maintain. The diesel post first 10000 kms gets serviced for 5000 INR and then for next 10000 kms for 11000 INR (major service). How I know this? I replaced my Jazz (diesel) for City. Jazz was driven for 65000 kms in 2 years. It gave me an overall mileage of 25 kmpl when I replaced it. 4. Spares: Quiet Cheap in comparison to Maruti. I still own a Maruti car which was bought in 2009. 5. Both Rapid and Vento doesnt offer Sunroof :D 6. Leg space: Class leading leg space at rear seats. Ciaz just aces here. However, Hyundai Verna is cramped at rear seats. So, no leg space and comfort. Hence, I found City as a complete package for my needs and priorities :) The only car that gave me a tough competition was Skoda Rapid because of its 7 speed Dual Clutch Automatic gearbox. Drive that car with this variant and you’ll feel why it gave me a competition (Vento has it too but I didn’t like its look) Hope you chooses the car based upon your needs and priorities. All the best :)

What are the best sedan cars in India 2019?

Sedans are getting overshadowed by the sub segment in the recent market. But actually sedans are the cars which please the automotive enthusiast the most . Secondly it offers more space and practicality. And if you ask me on an esthetic point of view sedans look more sexier as compared to the brute looking suvs available in the market. Buying a sedan depends on which segment you choose according to your budget. First to begin with the cheapest of them The Sub four metre sedan section:- Here Maruti Suzuki desire is the king of the segment. It sells in humongous number . It packs a good safety kit ,low maintenance, a hassle free experience due to Maruti Suzuki s widespread dealership, plenty of safety kit and host of more goody .it is also quite frugal too comes with an AMT option also. There is also the Hyundai accent , the ford aspire , the Tata tigor . The tigor is a cheapest one but has plenty of goodies along side a Harman Canton audio system. But the car which is giving the desire a run for its money is Honda Amaze . Launched just a year back has set the sell chats on fire. The vehicle is quite fuel efficient, has a good touch screen equipped with Android auto & apple carplay , has a stupendous ride quality. You can say it's scale down version of its elder sibling the Honda city . The cars in this segment costs bellow 10 lakhs. The entry level mid size sedan segment:- Once a while this segment was very popular. Then it lost its craze now suddenly every one wants to buy a mid size sedan . Here the Honda city remains at the top of the sales chat . Comes with two engine options ivtec petrol , idtec diesel both motors are good fuel efficient , but the idtec diesel is bit boomy when compared to the refinement level. Honda city is indeed a good looking car has class leading cabin space and seats are large comfortable to accommodate three in the back. Talking about the city you can't missed the Verna out of the picture. On an esthetic point of view it's a handsome brute. Packs segment first front cooled passenger seats in its top end sxo veriant. Comes with both petrol and diesel engines wich puts out class leading power and torque figures . If want to buy a diesel one then the Verna is a no brainer. The buildquality is also better than its rivals (including Honda city ) , but has less space in the back seat and is not as comfortable as the city and Ciaz. The Verna is a bit less fuel efficient then the city . Then there is the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Toyota Yaris . The Ciaz is a good product but has lost its fame in the recent market while buyers in this segment wants to have premium brands instead of Maruti Suzuki. The Ciaz has class leading cabin back space. Then comes the Yaris , it is the safest sedan in this segment packed with host of safety features. Has a good fuel efficient engine , nvh (noise harshness and vibration) levels are class leading , has all four disc brakes as standard. So whole over its a no nonsense car, but it doesn't look beautiful as the Verna or the city. And yes I missed to say both Verna and city comes with cruise control. I will say if you want a petrol one go with either city or Yaris if Diesel then its the Verna that makes more sense.all these cars costs from 12- 16 lakhs which the city and the Yaris costs the most . The family car segment :- This segment is fading away fast. While some recent launches has brought a breath of fresh air to it . Ruling the segment it's the Japanese Toyota Corolla altis , then there is the Korean elentra ,the Czech Octavia , the German Jetta , the American cruise , and another japanese civic. Among these the Jetta and the cruise are discontinued. The Corolla altis has been criticised for its old design the boring looking dashboard . But for me it looks striking from out side but have dull dash board. The rear seats are the most comfortable in this segment which is its trump card . Its a no nonsense product like all Toyotas provides you a peace of mind. Then the Korean elentra is a good looking car indeed has a large sunroof, good modern dash board ,sporty looks , all black interiors , good to drive also , Hyundai has equipped this with all goodies . The comes the Skoda Octavia which demolishes it's competition by offering segment first hands free packing , great day automatic gearbox , enthusiastic driving, and host of other features. It also comes in a more expensive vrs veriant which comes with a different engine tuned to please the sports car drivers and comes with racy alkentara red black racy seats . Now Honda has made its fans nostalgic by launching the civic which the best looking car comes with many features . The car rides and Handels well. But it's petrol comes only with a automatic and diesel with a manual which is a bit disappointing. It provides good fuel economy . While the Octavia is the best car here but Skoda cars are a bit expensive to maintain . these costs between 20–25 lakhs Mid size executive car segment:- Driving a car of this segment not only means you are driving a good car but also means you are doing quite well in your life and living a good life. This segment includes the Toyota Camry , the Honda Accord , the vw Passat , the Skoda superb . While the Accord and the Camry are hybrids they are more fuel efficient and environment friendly. If you seat alot in your back seat it's again the Toyota Camry which is just launched a month back looks the most royal in this class has a unique dashboard plenty of cabin space and boot space , rides and Handels well. Toyota has really nailed it. A class leading product by Toyota here. Then comes the Honda Accord it's a good nice comfortable and fuel efficient car but it's about get a new model coming soon so more on that later when it arrives. The vw Passat defines the term understated elegance looks stunning with its well led out straight lines . It's a strong product but gets over shadowed by the lights of the Camry and superb. The Skoda superb is the best looking car here has sharp edgy looks , sportiest car to drive packs many segment first feature s can give many higher car run for their money. The Camry will be my pic it combines a good petrol and hybrid motor and is the jack of all trades here. Beyond this segment comes the luxury saloons and brands like Audi , BMW , Mercedes , jaguar which I have very little knowledge of so please read them elsewhere. Thank you

I am keen on getting the Yaris for my family. Does it have good safety features?

The Toyota yaris is an excellent car and it is cheap to run and it won't eat in to your wallet often. Toyota cars are generally reliable. You don't mention which engine your hoping to get or which year your looking at but I'm confident that whatever yaris you get it will be great but….. If your looking to buy a yaris for the family city driving it maybe okay but with 5 passengers it can get cramped in the rear and if your buying the yaris for long journeys on the motorway I wouldn't recommend(yaris can go on motorway but…) because the yaris isnt purposely built as a motorway cruiser. My advice is I have two cars for you too choose from. If you can handle a big car and can put up with the slighty higher insurance and tax(uk) then I would recommend a Toyota avensis the 2009+ t27 model especially the estate/tourer is FANTASTIC I WOULD avoid the diesels(many problems) and RECOMMEND the 1.8 petrol engine with the CVT (like automatic) gearbox. Try to buy the t4 model which comes with SATNAV, LEATHER,SUNROOF, PUSHBUTTON START etc. I have driven many cars but I LOVED the avensis it was comfortable and it's really spacious inside I think it would be an excellent car. They are mega reliable that's why people use them as cabs here in the UK. So what if you find the avensis too big? Or not appealing then: I recommend the Toyota prius 2004+ model.I personally like both models of the prius the 2nd gen and the 3rd gen but as you haven't stated your budget I'm presuming the 2nd gen is easily within budget. The prius has a 1.5 hybrid engine. It has 76bhp and whilst it may not seem awful lot you need to remember it's built for city economy so it won't be a fast car by any means but.. it is enough for city cruising and it will have excellent mpg because it will switch between electric motor and engine at times. The biggest plus of a prius is its roomy front and back. The prius 1.5 will be excellent at reliability, search on YouTube the million kilometre prius and you will be suprised it's been driven 1,000,000 km. Bottom line is this, if had to drive the yaris, avensis and the prius and pick one I would pick the avensis because I'm not ready for hybrid driving yet(I have a heavy right foot). But a car for the family has to be good on fuel, cheap to repair and should be comfortable with that in mind I would pick either the prius or avensis. I find the yaris good around town but motorway driving is noisy and scary. (Try overtaking at 70mph with heavy wind) Drive all 3 and make your mind up!
