Define better… In terms of mechanical reliability and quality control, Japanese cars builders are unquestionably the best at what they do. Regardless of prestige and status, your Jaguar, Porche or BMW is never going to stand up to a Toyota, Lexus, or even a Suzuki. Mercedes are a bit of an outlier in this respect, and historically had a culture of engineering more akin to a Japanese manufacturer with excellent quality control of mechanical components, though since the 90s this has declined. But it is true that Mercedes diesel cars of the 70s and 80s were fantastically reliable. Comfort wise, Japanese cars have historically been more comfortable and convenient than European counterparts and though Korean mnufacturers are now best known for value in terms of equipment and creature comforts verses cost, the Japaese are still very good, especially on Japanese domestic sold cars where things like automatic parking, reversing cameras and zonal climate control were the norm long, long before they were even glimpsed in Europe, let alone adopted. Where Japanese manufacturers struggle more is, oddly, status. In most segments Japanese cars just don’t have the hereditary esteem of some European brands, even when by most measurable qualities they are often better vehicles. In some areas though this is less true. For example, among true 4WD off-road vehicles, the Toyota Landcruiser is the undisputed leader of the pack. Among city cars, the Japanese makers lead the field. The Toyota Yaris, Suzuki Swift and Nissan Micra are regarded as some of the best city cars you can buy. Among roadsters the Mazda MX-5 is the classic that relaunched an entire class of vehicles. The original MX-5 is rightly considered a masterpiece. Ironically, considering how Japanese makers are often accused of drgging their feet on electrification, it’s worth nothing that the first two mass market EVs - the Mitsubishi Imiev and Nissan Leaf are both Japanese - the latter is the best selling electric car in history to date.

A used sports car can be very entertaining. I would be sorely tempted by a Mazda MX-5/Miata or a Nissan 350/370z. But if I can have only one car, then I need something that can also hold four passengers and some luggage for a weekend getaway. For that, it’s hard to beat an older e36 or e46 BMW 3-Series with a manual transmission. Just be sure to have a spare car on hand (Honda or Toyota) for when the BMW head gasket fails. Oh, right, one car. A late model used Mazda 3 is an excellent way to have your cake and eat it too. But perhaps you had in mind buying a new car. In that case, the Toyota Yaris iA, which is essentially a Mazda 2 with a trunk, might be the answer. It’s not fast, but it’s surprisingly entertaining nonetheless.
The Skoda Citigo is the best small car, rewarding to drive, pleasant to live with, cheap to insure, not too powerful for a new driver and bloody reliable. After that it’s the Honda Jazz, almost the same deal really. According to NCAP the safest cars at the moment 2020 are the Honda Jazz, Mazda MX-30, the VW ID3 and the Toyota Yaris.

hot hatchbacks like a Golf GTI or Ford focus, a decent Sedan like a v6 or turbo 4Cyl Ford fusion/mondeo, Imprezas from Subaru tend to be nice nad can be easily upgraded. Hyundai’s Velostar Turbo is really fun to drive. Audi’s a3 is nice too and can be specced with AWD and some decent power. Mazda Miata/mx-5’s. subaru BRZ/Toyota Gt86 not too powerful but great fun to drive and up gradable. i wouldn't suggest, the majority of new Toyota at a Dealership, really the only one i can think of that seems like a decent new car out of Toyota is the Yaris GRMN hot hatch and its sold out. Honda Civic’s because yes someone is going to mention VTEC and anyone else can just talk about how its the same thing as Variable Valve timing which almost everyone has, not to mention both Toyota and Honda have a habit of producing a car that feels like a fisher price kids toy to drive. not trucks, crossovers, or expensive cars, or overly powerful rides. i would not recommend a V8, mostly because you can get similar power from a V6 now and better fuel efficiency. a hyundai Genesis Coupe the with V6 seems like the best choice maybe a second hand one if you dont need a large trunk with seats for friends, otherwise a Subaru WRX is the best all around choice.
I hope, in order, no, and yes. While I doubt they will ever be manufactured just for enthusiasts demands, it seems like they’re not going anywhere for a few more years. I was not surprised to find one survey claims fewer than 2% of vehicles sold in 2018 were manual. However, another, more encouraging story names names. “The overarching trend of the past few years has been that the manual transmission is on the way out. People like automatics, they can be faster than manually shifting, and they're frequently better at saving fuel. But there's still a sizable enough minority of manual fans and buyers that automakers continue to offer a manual in nooks and crannies of the automotive market. And you might be surprised at some of the offerings. We certainly were, so we thought we'd compile a list of cars with an available manual, to narrow the options for those of you who absolutely must have three pedals. There are a number of surprises on this list. For instance, Jeep has quite a range of manuals. They're available on the Compass and Patriot, and amazingly, they can be coupled to four-wheel-drive and trim levels that aren't completely basic. A weird omission we found was the Mini Cooper Countryman. Every version of it is available with a manual, except the front-wheel-drive version of the Cooper S variant, and (less surprisingly) the PHEV. Then again, BMW seems to be very particular about which vehicles get manuals and which don't, applying many arbitrary restrictions. Likewise, Nissan and Toyota with their cab and transmission configurations for the Frontier and Tacoma. Check out the full list below.
