Some what presumptuous question, but I’ll take the bait. I do not prefer Lambos. Don’t know anyone that does. Never seen one at the Nurburgring after 6 3-day schools over a 10 year period. As far as collectability goes, other than the Miura, few big hitter car buyers/sellers/collectors I know have any appreciation for Lambos. Lambo’s are no-shows at Pebble Beach or Amelia Island. At The Quail, you will see lots of Miuras Think about it. Lambos are rolling cliches. If you are going to drive a cliche, get “reel”. When was a Lambo ever featured in a TV series or a movie? David Hasselhof had Kit, a high/tech Pontiac Firebird. Steve McQueen drove a Mustang in “Bullit”. James Bond characters drove an Aston Martin (or a BMW). The “Italian Job” featured Mini Coopers. Jackie Chan drove a BMW Z8 in “The Tuxedo”. Burt Reynolds drove a Firebird TransAm in “Smokey and the Bandit”. Tom Selleck drove Ferrari 308 in “Magnum PI”. The Vin Diesel “Tokyo Drift” cars were mostly Japanese ricers. Peter Falk drove a baseline Firebird in Colombo. Even Richard Gere had the good taste to drive a Lotus to Visit his ho played by Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. Think of a Lotus as a Lambo but with racing heritage. So what am I missing? When was a Lambo a thing, other than a poster on a college sophmore’s dorm room wall? I have a friend that has a Ferrari and a fully restored Dino. He bought a Gallardo, then dumped it, because it was so de classe. Might as well get a Corvette with chrome wheels. It might get you front row parking next to the Bentley at the Ritzy restaurant, but only if you valet. Yeah, I get it. Lambos are bad-ass fast. But check out the Top Gear episode, where The Stig drove a slush-box Alpina Z8 to a dead-even lap time vs. the Murcielago. Jeremy Clarkson was astonished. The last Lambo I saw being seriously driven was diminishing from view in the rear view mirror of my BMW Z8 at Motorsport Ranch. I was thinking “Gee, if I had one of those, I could buy 2 more Z8s, which actually go up in value”. My next thought was “Buh bye. C-ya back at the grid. I’ll save you a spot up where the big dogs take a break.” This is not to say I don’t “get it”. I was at the ‘07 Frankfurt Auto Show at the unveiling of the 100% carbon fiber Reveton (serial #1 in a limited edition just 20 cars) . IMHO, it was just another $2M penis car. It’s 10% faster than a Chevy Corvette, but costs 1,000% As much. Ut’s A BFD, for suckers with too much money, no sense of value, nor any sense of where style meets class. My dad called Lambos “Limber Weenies”. I think “placid” might be a better adjective.
