ford gt40 price Q&A Review

Why was the Ford GT40 discontinued?

The original had a limited market due to its high cost, and making it safety compliant would make the market smaller and the price higher. The fact that it was a “production” car at all is amazing.

How much is a 1966 Ford GT40 worth?

The average price is $12 million. Picture from: ,www.topgear.com

What is the most exclusive/rarest car you've seen in the wild?

I have 2 candidates, both awesome. One modern, one classic. No.1 was a Mansory tuned Porsche Cayenne. It's an insane car, and quite possibly the only one in Australia. 800 horsepower, $350,000 price tag, and in fact driven illegally by a P-plater (probationary licence holder), they aren't allowed to drive powerful cars like that. Here are some photos of it I found on the Mansory website of a similar colour scheme. No. 2 was an original Ford GT40, also in Australia, sort of like this but all yellow, no black stripes

How much does an original Ford GT40 cost?

Less than 100units were made and very less exist in working condition. Expect it to cost a minimum price tag of $2Million and can go upto $12Million.

Which is the most expensive supercar?

£7.9 million. That’s the cheapest in my list here. Not your usual Bugatti Chiron or Veneno and definitely not the $8 million dollars Mercedes-Benz Maybach Excelero. Expecting the list of expensive cars? This list is different. So let’s get started! 1. 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Price sold: ,£29.3 million This Ferrari is one of the most sought after cars in the world so it’s little surprise this version which was second off the production line tops our list. Just a handful of 250 GTOs were ever built and this one won the World GT Championships. 2. 1954 Mercedes Benz W196 Price: ,£23.5 million As an iconic F1 race car it won nine out of 12 races it entered and won the championship in the two years it entered. It was driven by five-time world champion Juan Manuel Fangio. 3. 1955 Jaguar D-Type Price: ,£16.8 million It’s the most expensive British model on the list and for good reason. The D-Type drove its way to victory at the brutal Le Mans 24 Hour race in 1955, 1956 and 1957. 4. 1932 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe Price: ,£15.9 million It has one of the largest engines ever fitted to a car – a whopping 12.7-litres – and was sold 20 years ago. It went for £7.5m at the time but that’s doubled with inflation since 1987 5. 1939 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Lungo Spider Price: ,£15.3 million Designed to compete in sportscar races – especially the Mille Miglia – this Alfa featured a 2.9-litre with two superchargers. When it sold it was the highest price ever paid for a pre-Second World War car at auction. 6. 1962 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato Price: ,£11.1 million The model was unveiled at the London Motor Show in 1960 and was a standard DB4 GT lightened and improved by the Zagato factory in Italy. When sold it was the most expensive British car beating the McLaren F1. 7. 1962 Shelby 260 Cobra Price: ,£10.6 million This 60s Shelby is the most expensive American car ever sold beating the Ford GT. Dubbed the CSX 2000 it was the first Shelby Cobra ever made. 8. 1968 Ford GT40 Price: ,£8.8 million A new Ford GT has just been released that harks back to the glorious 60s racer pictured here. The GT40 was the project name given to Ford’s quest to win the Le Mans 24 Hour race – which it did four times in a row from 1966-1969. 9. 1931 Duesenberg Model J Long Wheelbase Coupe Price: ,£8.5 million This exotic and rare American model – known as the “Duesy” – was in production for eight years but just 500 were ever built. They were designed to cater for exclusive and luxurious clients. 10. 1982 Porsche 956 Price sold: ,£7.9 million The Porsche 911 is a dream car for many but it’s the 956 that takes the spot as the most expensive from the manufacturer. When it was launched it held the lap record around the Nürburgring – completing it in 6 mins 11 secs. Now these are the true legends! Image source: random search ,http://www.Googleimages.com

How much is a 1964 Ford GT40 worth?

All vehicles are worth what someone is willing to pay, but I would start with a asking price of $3000 if it's all there and just a little rusty

What classic car holds it’s value the best?

There are plenty that actually grow in value. Ford GT40’s have more than doubled in price, plenty of others gain value like Mk. 4 Supra’s, Mazda Rx-7 FD’s, etc.

Why don’t car companies design vehicles that have that old cool car look but can actually function?

Some do, but it’s a niche market and that drives up prices. If you’re willing to pay you can get this 2020 Alvis Gräber Super Coupe. Or perhaps a 2020 Morgan Plus Four. Until 2006 you could get an Avanti II. You can also get a new Ford GT40 continuation series. Or if you want something that looks like it, but is bigger and more modern you can get a Ford GT (compare with the original on the right). If you don’t care abut the price you can get one of the 12 new Bentley Birkin Blower. Oh, and Aston Martin are building the DB4 GT Continuation.

Would you consider a full-auto machine gun a wise investment?

I think it’s safe to say the the price of a full-auto machine gun is only going to go up, seeing as they are rare, highly desired and no one is making them anymore. You’ll want to have a competent gunsmith check it out prior to buying it. If I were to buy anything as an investment, whether it was a select fire, WWII vintage M1 carbine or a Ford GT40, I would want it to remain in the same condition I bought it in. So fire it once only if you really have to, then bury it in cosmoline and put it in the safe until you’re satisfied you can make a reasonable profit. Remember, you didn’t buy it for fun, but to resell.

What kind of man drives a Corvette as opposed to a Ferrari or other high performance car?

When I look around and count the number of late model Corvettes, compared to Ferrari, I believe that there is a collective-wisdom that is being followed. The acquisition cost of the car is one thing. When the price-point is below six-figures, then this opens the door to many sportscar enthusiasts - not simply out of affordability, but also due to VALUE. Even the upper classes who can easily afford any car, still pay attention to value for their dollar. No one likes overpaying. The Achilles heel regarding owning any exotic, luxury or sportscar is the cost of maintaining the beast. Italian sportcars are notoriously-expensive to maintain and require specialized folks at a dealership. By contrast, Corvettes are considerably cheaper to maintain. It costs $5,000.00 per tire (just for the tire, not the labor) to replace a single tire on a Lamborghini Countach. That is $20,000.00 for the tires, now add the labor costs which are not going to be cheap, and also, it is customary and expected to tip your Lamborghini mechanic at the dealership too, likely totaling nearly $30,000.00 for a set of tires. Not to be underestimated, but sometimes standing-out too much in public can become a liability. A friend of mine owns a Ford GT40 and a 7th Generation Corvette. Car enthusiasts follow him like paparazzi whenever he drives his Ford GT40. It is not the car that you can park in a parking lot, without a crowd gathering within 5 minutes. However, a person can own a late model Corvette, and since they are common-enough, you can go out to dinner and rest-assured that while there will be admirers, there will unlikely be a public spectacle either. Certain Ferrari cars are future collector, to a point. once the odometer sees certain mileage points - 5,000 miles, 10,000 miles, etc. then the value of the vehicle drops dramatically. This leaves many of these cars hostage to the their respective garages. Both Corvettes and Porsches are common enough that they can be driven and enjoyed, even become daily drivers, something unthinkable for most Ferrari or Lamborghinis. It is not about whether or not people can afford the price for the above, it is also the hassle-factor that the more exotic Ferrari cars require more maintenance and trips to the dealership for tuning. Ferrari cars have their place - on the racetrack, in collections, among folks who dare an occasional drive and for those who enjoy no shortage of attention lavished upon them. Corvettes too have their place, also on the racetrack, also in collections, but are much more forgiving on the wallet as a driving car and while some may notice, the attention will not become problematic. I heard the story of a man who once owned a Ferrari - until people started following him home back to his house. Creeped-out due to the persistence of the impromptu fan club, he sold the car out of self-preservation. “Jealousy”, however ugly, is a force to be deal with, especially by strangers who make jealous-based assumptions: If you drive a high-end “flashy” car then the following perceptions become true: you must be an asshole, arrogant, a trust-fund baby, never worked a hard day in your life, or if you did, you stepped on people on your climb to the top. There are many stories of the expensive sportcar that got keyed, or that someone brazenly carved the word, “asshole” right into the paint job. Own a car that is much higher end than a Corvette or Porsche, then vengeance of the forsaken from those who simply made other choices with their time and money, may befall even the most earnest and honest of car owners. It is not like Corvette owners do not bear their own stigma too, however. Many are branded as white-trash wanna-be rich hillbillies, middle-age crisis men, the stereotypical open collar, hairy-chest and gold chain wearing guy out to pick up chicks. Everyone who owns a car that costs most than the average vehicle is subject to the small dick to overcompensate by owning a powerful or expensive vehicle type-insult. The difference is that Ferrari owners in the United States, with exceptions such as in Malibu, Monterrey Bay, Bel Aire, or other places like Aspen or within other affluent communities, among the general public, these cars are like the embodiment of a celebrity. High profile celebrities are often victims to overzealous fans, fans who simply want to grab a piece of their hair and sell it on eBay, scammers, grifters and even crazed fans like Mark David Chapman who killed John Lennon. If you choose to drive what will instantly make you a celebrity by virtue or vice of the supercar, there is the law of Unintended Consequences to face, and like Murphy’s Law, this can be an invitation to problems in many fronts. It is much simplier to buy a Porsche or Corvette, blend-in a little more, and call it good. Just drive the car and enjoy it. If you must have a Ferrari, consider trailering it in an enclosed trailer and enjoying it on the track to spare yourself the circus.
