xb ford gt Q&A Review

Which automobile from a movie or television series would you love to have as your weekend play toy?

I'm sure someone's said this already, but I want a 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT coupe…otherwise known as Mad Max's V8 interceptor. “The Last of the V8s.” Normally I don't go for cars that have engine parts sticking out above the hood, but come on…this car is beautiful, and that supercharger or “blower” boosts it to 600 horsepower or something ridiculous. Not much compared to the muscle cars of today, I know, but this car looks mean and drives mean, and it's as much a character in the original ,Mad Max, films as Max himself.

What car would you choose to be the time machine, other than the Delorean?

Dr Emmett Brown said, “If you’re going to build a time machine in a car, it might as well have a little class.” Well, guess what? Nothing says “Class” like a 1935 Packard Sport Phaeton 12 Cylinder LeBaron. Once you get this baby rolling with its throaty supercharger nothing is going to stop it. Over two tons of quality steel and iron hand crafted with the most powerful engine on the planet, so advanced in design that its progeny was used to power American patrol boats to 50 knot during WW2. Ya, if you want to have style, grace AND class, nothing beats a Packard Motor Car, the best luxury cars every made in the United States. My second choice, of course, would be the 1973 Ford XB GT Coupe “V8 Interceptor” with 750 horsepower as used by Mel Gibson as “Mad Max” in the eponymous movie. Has there ever been a more boner-inducing car than this bad boy? I don’t think so! When the movie came out in 1981 I was a starving college student and I would forego food to see this movie over and over and over at the theaters. I simply couldn’t believe my eyes, and the car was most certainly the star. “Gotta hand it to you, Chief. The last of the V8 Interceptors. It’s a piece of history! Woulda been a shame to blow it up!”

What were some popular muscle cars that Ford had other than the Mustang?

The Mustang gets all the attention, but Ford has made quite a lot of muscle cars, especially in the ’60s and ‘70s. (Before you comment, this is by no means a complete list.) Perhaps the first, even before the Mustang, was the ,1963 Falcon Sprint,. This was essentially a normal Falcon coupe or convertible, but with a V8 engine - the only first-generation Falcon to have one. While it could be argued that the Falcon was too small to be a “muscle car”, it was an otherwise ordinary coupe with a big engine stuffed into it, and at the time, that was the only qualification it needed. In 1964, the Falcon was redesigned, and once again there was a Sprint version. When the Mustang was introduced in 1964, it shared almost all its parts with the Falcon Sprint, the only difference being the body panels and some of the interior. When the Mustang was introduced, it really helped kick off the American muscle car craze, and a hurricane of new models came onto the scene. Ford’s next major contribution was the ,1967 Mercury Cougar,. While it was mechanically identical to its predecessors, the Mustang and the Falcon Sprint, the Cougar had a new body design with hide-away headlights similar to those of the Chevy Camaro, which was also introduced in ’67 to compete with the Mustang. The following year, Ford finally introduced a bigger muscle car: the ,1968 Torino GT,. A fast version of the normal Torino, which was meant to be a more upscale version of the Fairlane, the Torino GT was a full-size coupe that competed with cars like the Pontiac GTO and Dodge Charger. Like the Mustang and Cougar, a variety of V8 engines were available. In 1970, the Torino GT got a redesign, gaining Cougar-style hide-away headlights that made it look a lot like the Dodge Charger of the same year. It also had a sibling, the ,1970 Torino Cobra,, which was the top performance model of the lineup that year. It lacked the GT’s fancy headlights, but made up for it with a massive 429 Cobra Jet engine. The Torino got styling refreshes in ‘71, ‘72, ’73 and ‘74, each boxier and less sleek than the last. (In my opinion, ’70 was the best year for Torino styling.) It did, however, lead to one of the most famous TV cars of all time: David Starsky’s ,1974 Ford Gran Torino, from ,Starsky & Hutch,. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Ford was building a muscle car that Americans never got to drive: the, 1973 XB Falcon GT,, which could be considered a descendant (by name, at least) of the original Falcon Sprint. If you’re not from Australia, you might not recognize this car, and I wouldn’t blame you, despite the fact that it was the star of one of the most famous action movies of the decade. You’ve probably guessed by now which one I’m talking about. In heavily modified form, this was ,Mad Max,’s car, better known as the Interceptor. From the mid ’70s onward, Ford, like the rest of the industry, took a break from big, thirsty muscle cars to focus on more efficient compacts. The next major muscle car from Ford was the V8 Fox-body Mustang in the early ‘80s. There was also the Capri, but that was really too small to be considered a muscle car. I’ll end this overly long answer on a rather unusual example from the 1990s. This could be considered a muscle car, since it had an engine borrowed from the Mustang, but it wasn’t actually a car. I’m talking about the ,1993 Ford SVT Lightning,. This might have looked like an ordinary F-150 pickup truck with some red paint and a bed cover, but it was a bit more than that. Under the hood was a Windsor V8 that made it considerably faster than any other truck of the time. It was surprisingly popular for such an unusual vehicle, and after a brief hiatus, it got a second generation in 1999 when the F-150 was redesigned. Like many previous muscle “cars”, this (briefly) starred in a movie, as Paul Walker’s shop truck in ,The Fast & The Furious, (2001). While the modern Raptor could be considered a relative of it, there hasn’t been anything quite like the Lightning since. The American auto industry has finally gotten over its long-held obsession with cramming V8s into everything, and the definition of a muscle car is changing. I don’t know what the future holds for Ford’s muscle cars. I’m really hoping for a fully electric Mustang coupe, but we’ll have to wait and see. UPDATE: The Lightning is back! This time it’s an all-electric version of the F-150. As you might expect, it’s faster than the Raptor.

What are all of the vehicles that Mad Max himself actually drove in all four of the Mad Max movies?

In Mad Max (1) the V8 Interceptor was a Ford Falcon XB GT (modified) For Road Warrior they bought that same Falcon back, modified it more, and built a copy In Thunderdome the camel wagon is probably based on an F series ford pickup This site should have anything else you want to know: ,Mad Max Cars and Other Mad Max Vehicles

What kind of Ford did they use in the original Mad Max movie?

Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe 1973 "V8 Interceptor"

How much money would you give away if you won £150M on the lottery?

A luxury house in a nice area where I want to live will cost about 1 million. Lets throw in another 500 grand to make it into my dream home. A new car for my husband, about 45 grand His dream car, a Ford GT XB circa 1974 about $130 grand. A 10 million investment portfolio would mean that my little family of 3 could live very comfortably 2 million put away for my sons future. That's about 15 million and my little family is set for life. Now to give some money away…ALOT of money. It costs about 35 thousand to train a seeing eye dog here in Australia , 100 seeing eye dogs, 3.5 million. But I'm not done yet. Our government broadcasting service recently screened a documentary series about a preschool class having regular visits and interraction with the residents of a local nursing home. The benefits of these visits were outstandingly good for all participants and the geriatrician and psychologist who oversaw this are currently seeking funding to roll it out nationwide. I'd write them a very big cheque. I know so many people who need a relatively small amount of money to get them on their feet that I would love to help. A work colleague who wants to go and train as an ambulance officer but first she needs to pay off her car loan, roughly 12 grand. I would end up giving most of it away to be honest.

What kind of car does Mad Max drive in Mad Max?

Great movie! The V8 Interceptor, also known as a "Pursuit Special" is driven by Max Rockatansky at the end of Mad Max and for the first half of Mad Max 2-The Road Warrior. It is based on a 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT coupe, which was modified to become a police interceptor by the Main Force Patrol. The V8 Interceptor is first seen in the MFP vehicle garage. The mechanics, Barry, and Goose use the Interceptor as a bribe to keep Max on the police force. Unlike most other MFP vehicles which are yellow and have roof-mounted police lights, the Interceptor is entirely black, except for a few gold MFP decals. According to Barry, the Interceptor has a dual overhead cam engine, and thanks to the special blower, makes 600 horsepower at the wheels. After Max's family is killed by the Toecutter's gang, Max steals the Interceptor and uses it to track down and eliminate members of the gang and Toecutter himself, as well as Johnney The Boy. Max then drives off into the Wasteland! 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT coupe

What action movie needs a remake?

Let me be perfectly clear — I am not suggesting a direct story remake of ,Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior,. ,It’s one of my favorite films. Mad Max is one of my favorite cinematic characters. I do NOT want a story point by story point remake of that classic. However, I want to see Tom Hardy’s Mad Max on the road dealing with threats as he’s traveling across the barren post-apocalyptic landscape via dangerous highway roads. I loved ,Mad Max: Fury Road,. Loved it. Hardy was a worthy Max. However, it was a bit more centered on Furiousa. I love that character. I do. But we only saw Max with his Ford Falcon XB GT for a couple of minutes before it was destroyed. Yes, we later see that it’s been refitted by the gangs that are later pursuing him and Furiousa. Which is actually nice because that means Max has a chance of getting it back after he leaves at the end of the film. I want to see Max alone on the road. Possibly with his dog. I want to see him stumble upon a group of highway gangs. I want to see him deal with the threats. If there’s a new version of the community he stumbled upon on ,Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior,, I’m fine with that. As long as it’s different. Maybe it’s a family that he comes across along the way. Maybe some of the family are killed and the remaining members must be saved. Maybe he takes one or two into his car for safety and he begrudgingly tells them that there’s a town 100 miles down the road that he’ll drop them off at. Maybe he learns that they have something the highway gangs want — that’s why they are pursuing them with vigor. I want to see more of this… And some of this… I want to see Mad Max on the road. Solo. Dealing with threats and maybe reluctantly helping someone in need.
