What are the differences between the Ford F-250, F-350, and the F-450?
The F250, F350, and F450 are roughly the Gross vehicle weight (GVW) class of the truck. The higher the number, the more weight the truck can haul. Therefore, the higher the number, the sturdier the frame, the more weight the axles are designed to carry, the bigger the brakes, and the more the tires and wheels are designed to handle. It started way back after WWII when Ford had the F-1, F2, F3 and up designations up to F-8. The F-1 was rated as a 1/2 ton truck, and could carry a load of 1,000 pounds over the truck itself. The F-2 was a 3/4 ton truck, for a 1,500 pound payload, and the F-3 was a one-ton truck, to carry a 2,000 pound payload. Over the years, the lines got blurred with heavy duty options, and when the emission laws were applied to trucks, these laws were easier on trucks with over the 1000 pound payload. In response, Ford dropped the F-1 (which by then had morphed to F-100, and introduced the F-150 to meet those better emission requirements, and thusly bigger payload. History and marketing have made the once easy-to-understand “F” numbering and rating system much more difficult to understand.

An F-350 is a heavy duty Ford model of truck which is primarily used by businesses and municipalities for it cargo hauling and towing capacities. Some thoughts: E-Bay, - While the prices on E-bay are often more inline with the seller's thought of what a vehicle is worth, rather than what it is worth,it does usually have a truly wide selection of models and years. Craigslist ,- Again, more often the seller's have no idea what their vehicle is and price it somewhat higher than market valuation. I would advise buying F-350 on here from an ,owner, and not a dealer (private sellers are often more honest). Auto auctions, - Some will allow the public to attend and they often have a number of used work trucks for sale. Government auctions, - Again the F-350 is the heavy duty workhorse of many municipal fleets. If it is for sale, it my lower mileage than a privately owned vehicle and it may be better maintained. Certain web sites - My personal favorite is ,Cars For Sale, Used Cars For Sale, New Cars For Sale, Carsforsale.com!, They have a wide selection of both dealers and models. NOTE: Not certain if the questioner was looking for individual dealer names. However, if I were looking for a vehicle of some type I would start with thee above and then trend toward newspapers and in-store fliers and circulars.
Should I get a Ford F-250 or an F-350?
I have an F-350 and I love it. I could do the same job with a F-250 but my circumstances were that I found an F-350 for a good price and I know that for my use it is unlikely that I will overload the truck. In this case I should get a longer life out of the stronger truck. Other than increased capacity, they are very similar in design and feel. Look at your circumstances and decide if you need or can afford the extra capacity or not.

Unless someone has scanned it and put it on line, your best bet is finding a printed copy.

General Motors has consistently poor body integrity and interior Integrity over two years of Chevy looks like a 10 year old vehicle compared to a Ford. Ford innovates, General Motors always does what for does like 6 years later. The aluminum body is proving already to be cheaper to repair than a conventional steel body and that's according to the Insurance Institute. You will probably pay a little bit more for the Ford but that's because they're selling like hotcakes and Chevrolet has to Discount their trucks 20% to even move them. Sitting in a forward you feel like you're in command of the road, while, sitting in a Chevy you feel like you're sitting in a bathtub. There's a reason Ford Super Duty out sells the Chevy by 2 to 1 sometimes 3 to 1. Chevy is so bad that even Ram is outselling Chevy now and RAM has the weakest frame of all out there. Resale value? Ford hold it way higher than General Motors. General Motors is a bottom-feeding company and they make basically terrible products in my opinion they don't even paint their frames, they're waxed which rubs off if you drive any gravel and turns that frame into rust really fast like in 2 years there's no wax left on the frame where is Ford paint their frames like any good carmaker should.

Having worked at Ford and spent a great deal of time planning, developing, and marketing Ford trucks, this answer will have that bias. However, I am also a student of truck history and an industry watcher, so this bias hopefully will be moderated. The Ram truck brand is a modern marketing term for a very important truck brand historically: Dodge. The Dodge Brothers built major components for early Ford cars and profited greatly from that enterprise. When the Dodge car was launched in 1916 it very quickly earned an outstanding reputation for ruggedness and value. Dodge trucks followed in this same vein. During the 1930’s the Dodge truck line was very competitive overall and much broader than that of Ford. In fact, Dodge was the first maker to offer an integrated diesel engine (that is, its own, not purchased from an independent like Cummins). While this engine was not very successful, it does illustrate the foresight and intention of Dodge at the time. After W.W. II Ford very consciously built up its truck business, starting with the launch of the F-Series in 1948, and continuing with a series of additions and improvements throughout the 1950s. Meantime, Dodge continued to remain a strong player and in fact had premium-diesel tractors in production years before Ford. A look at the data books for both truck brands in 1959 is very revealing. In many ways some Dodge products were more competitive that those of Ford. On the other hand, Ford Motor Company was on more solid financial and management footing than Chrysler at the time, and Ford had much stronger distribution. As a result, during the 1960s Ford outdistanced Dodge until late in the decade Dodge had become an also-ran, particularly in medium and heavy trucks - but also in light trucks. The brand was falling behind, victim of the many management and financial issues of Chrysler Corporation. Major corporations have trends and cycles that are larger than the individuals serving them and are governed to a great degree by their cumulative histories. Thus we see that today both Ford and Dodge - now Ram - are strong competitors in Class 2C-5 truck markets. This should not be surprising. Moreover, Ram truck planners admittedly picked Ford for their target and have actively pursued Ford using many of the same ideas and approaches that Ford pioneered and proved to be successful. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. The Dodge light truck business was saved by Cummins; had Dodge not engineered the B-series engine into its aging pickup from 1989 there would be no Ram truck today. The combination of Dodge and Cummins immediately created a strong and loyal following, and gave the Ford-Navistar diesel combination its only real competition for years. The failure of the Navistar 6.0L engine was a very nasty blow to Ford, seriously threatening the Ford image and market position. However, the power of Ford was such that it could overcome this challenge both tactically and strategically. As a result Ford now has its own integrated diesel - the 6.7L ,Powerstroke, V8, which is at least the equal to the Cummins 6.7L engine installed in the Ram today. In terms of market entries, powertrain, and basic durability, todays Ram and Ford products in Class 2C-5 are essentially equal. The difference between the two truck brands is in sophistication, design standards, and assembly quality, where Ford - in my opinion - has a considerable lead. Ford also has a better distribution and service network. As good as the Ram product is, these deficiencies compared to Ford means Ram will always remain a very good second choice for many buyers. By comparison, GM has a long way to go in catching either Ford or Ram in the Class 2C-5 market place, although it is trying harder with the recently-announced products assembled in a JV with Navistar. Bottom line answer to the question: Ford is the better choice, but Ram will get the job done. Only the truck buyer and operator can judge all the tradeoffs between these two choices relative to his or her needs. But if it were me, the choice would be Ford.

And as to maximum speed…well, whatever it was in 1965 isn’t going to be what it is now.
