Why should I buy an Acura or Infiniti over a Mercedes or BMW?
I looked at Acura and Mercedes and BMW and Infiniti. The Benz and BMW were just silly-expensive and they do not have good repair records, and if you get them repaired, it’s really expensive. That brought me to Acura and Infiniti. I didn’t care for the last design Acura… rather ugly. I’m pretty sure that an Acura TLX is a gissed up Accord. The Acuras aren’t very fast for the luxury sports car segment either… I looked at the Infiniti Q50. The Infiniti is not a gissed up Maxima nor Altima. The Q50 is rear wheel drive sports luxury car. The Altima and Maxima are front wheel drive. Also, the engines you can get in the Infiniti Q50 are more powerful and different than Altima or Maxima. I bought a black Infiniti Q50 S Red Sport 400. (long name, I know) It’s got 400 horsepower and will smoke any Mercedes BMW or Acura in the same price range. The engine is from the Nissan engineering division that makes the GTR engine too… that’s the only 2 engines they make. Infiniti’s run forever and are good looking and not too expensive. Infiniti dealerships have awesome lease deals. No, I don’t work for Infiniti… heh.
Why don't Nissan/Infiniti cars hold value like Honda/Acura or Toyota/Lexus?
When I read this, I initially rejected the premise. So, for this experiment, we are using KBB to compare same model year, same mileage, similarly spec'd competitors from all three manufacturers. In this case, they will be the 2010 model year Camry, Altima, and Accord with 64,500 on the odometer. When choosing the models on KBB, I will pick the highest trim and the V6 options, but will change none of the other default options. We will also be using the private party "very good" prices. 2010 Toyota Camry XLE V6 - $14,595 2010 Honda Accord EX-L V6 - $14,193 2010 Nissan Altima 3.5 SR - $14,014 Ok... Now how much did these cars depreciate in those 5 years? Because I can't go back in time a price these vehicles out, I am going to price out the current models. Keep in mind that 2015 is a newer body style for all three cars, though. The following will be the KBB (Kelly Blue Book) fair purchase price for a 2015 model. The previous package and engine options still apply. 2015 Toyota Camry XLE V6 - $29,860 2015 Honda Accord EX-L V6 (w/ navigation) - $30,244 2015 Nissan Altima 3.5 SL V6 (w/ parking sensors) - $33,175 Depreciation Camry - 51.1% Accord - 53.0% Altima - 57.7% As you can see, the Nissan does lose a bit more value over the same amount of time compared to the other two. Not a significant amount, but more none the less. This method is very imperfect, but we will now look at the three brand's luxury divisions using similar platforms. 2010 Lexus ES350 - $17,880 2010 Acura TL - $17,351 Unfortunately, Infiniti does not have a rebadged Altima. In fact, it doesn't even have a sedan on the same platform as the Altima. So, the closest in comparison would be... 2010 Infiniti M35 - $18,720 For the 2015 model year, Lexus has retained the ES350 model, but the TL has become the TLX and the M35 would be considered the Q50. For the new prices I will use those models. 2015 ES350 - $36,570 2015 Acura TLX - $34,696 2015 Infiniti Q50 - $34,961 So... ES350 - 51.1% (interesting) TLX - 49.9% Q50 - 46.4% From this rudimentary analysis, it appears as though Nissan depreciates more than the other two brands, but Infiniti actually depreciates less. Also, Lexus depreciates the most, while Toyota the least when comparing same-market marques. The reason I think this data came out the way it did is because the higher market marques have distinctly different images than the base brands. This is my personal opinion. Lexus is first and foremost a luxury brand. They compete directly with Cadillac and, for many models, Mercedes. Luxury cars depreciate like absolute shit. Toyota, on the other hand, holds the title of being recognized as the most reliable of the other three brands. Acura, while nicer than many brands, isn't quite a luxury brand. They aren't quite a sport brand, either. I think of them as being similar to SAAB (R.I.P) or Volvo but with out the tank reputation. They kinda have an identity issue. Honda, while also considered very reliable, just doesn't seem as nice as Toyota. Infiniti is a sports brand. While their interiors might not compete with the higher end BMWs, many of their models compete directly with the sportier more Spartan (for a luxury car, at least) Bavarians. They aren't subject to the luxury depreciation rates, or at least not as much. Nissan is also a sportier brand, but I don't think they are as nice on the base line as Honda or Toyota, though, and while not unreliable, they don't have the reliability reputation that the others have. They seem "cheaper". Just my 2¢.

Recent-to-new models are more frequently taken by robbery than stolen while unattended. Note that even twenty year old models of popular vehicles are a higher risk than newer unpopular vehicles. Since the logic driving (!) these numbers is easy to understand (a popular vehicle is easy to re-sell, even if simply stripped for spares), it becomes obvious that an unpopular model is less likely to be a target. There are some allegedly very good vehicles that remain unpopular in S.A, some of them being: Peugeot (308 model) Subaru (Outback) Volvo (V40) Citroen (C4 Picasso) Honda (Civic) Alfa Romeo (Giulietta) Nissan Infiniti (Q50) Mitsubish (Outlander) Toyota Lexus (IS) Mazda (BT50), essentially a re-badged Ford Ranger but selling only a fraction of the Ford version. Some nice cars here, particularly the Civic, but it’s over-priced. The Infiniti and the Lexus are the only models from Nissan and Toyota that don’t lead the theft numbers. Unfortunately, all of these cars have a poor return at resale and many suffer a reputation of horrible after-sales support. For these reasons, I’ll include my own beloved car in this list; Jaguar XF V8. The cheaper, flawed, Chinese and Indian brands are also less attractive to both, thieves and buyers, alike. A happy middle-ground could be the very good Korean vehicles that are not yet as popular as the Japanese and German brands - but that is changing slowly and continuously.
What car would you choose between a Lexus GS 350 or a Infiniti Q50?
Always been a big Nissan fan, I’ve driven three. But unfortunately a Toyota product like the GS350 is a much more reliable car nowadays. I wish I could recommend Nissan/Infinity, but until they extricate themselves from their partnership with Renault, I cannot. I’m not really a fan of Toyota products, They tend to be boring. Luxury version even more so. If you are looking for a more driver oriented, more exciting car, I’d look at an Acura TLX or RLX. Another good option is the Genesis G70 or G80. A GS350 isn’t in the same price range as a Q50. They start about $20k more. Q50 about $35k Infiniti Q50 - Wikipedia GS350 about $50k Lexus GS - Wikipedia TLX about $33k Acura TLX - Wikipedia RLX about$50k Acura RLX - Wikipedia G70 about $34k ,Genesis G70 - Wikipedia G80 about $42k Genesis G80 - Wikipedia I myself would chose the Acura TLX or the Genesis G70.
Do Mercedes Benz manufacture all the engines of the Mercedes?
While it is true that Nissan in Decherd, Tennessee builds engines for Mercedes in Vince, Alambama, I tend to believe that Nissan builds M274 four-cylinder engine for C-Class and Infiniti Q50. The W205 C-Class and Infiniti Q50 share the Mercedes-Benz MRA platform as the result of the Daimler-Nissan/Renault alliance. Q50 in many oversea markets do offer 2.0 inline-four engines as standard on gas versions, and the US will follow soon. But keep in mind that M274 is still a genuine Mercedes engine. A bit differently, Mercedes in Europe offers OM626 diesel C-Class and GLC-Class as well as OM622 on Vito vans (Metris’ oversea counterpart). OM622/626 are collaboratively developed with Renault, which also markets these engines as Renault R9M. These engines are built in Renault’s Cléon facility. Unlike M274 which is almost exclusively used for Mercedes, with the only exception of Intiniti Q50 (next-generation QX50 may join in), Renault R9M are used on more Nissan/Renault products.

You’re getting; Some ,Acura ,with your ,Honda A little ,Lexus ,with your ,Toyota Lots of ,Infiniti ,with your ,Nissan Depending on specific model, I’d likely go Nissan for the reasons stated above. The Maxima is a rebadged Infiniti Q50. The Murano is a rebadged QX60. Can't beat the Prius if you're looking for a hybrid sedan with excellent MPG and Tesla-like screen. Stick with Honda if you want most tech features in a standard model.

Nissan VQ engine - Wikipedia Infiniti Q50 - Wikipedia The specs look pretty close, though the turbo claims better economy and better torque, so from reading descriptions, the 3.0 TT should be faster than the 3.5. IF they were both put in the same car. Nothin special about those two, just picking two engines by the same company still in production. Eliminates more of the variables one might claim in such a comparison.
