Because of two axles in the rear, if tires of the one axle are going over a speed breaker, the other one is still on ground thus reducing the overall jerk felt in the passenger compartment. Similarly, if the tires on one of the axles is going into the a pothole in the road, the other one will stay on the ground. One important thing to note here is the placement of the leaf springs: They are inverted parabolic leaf springs with the two points at the at axles and the mid linked to the chassis.
