A lot of refinements and functional adaptations when it comes to ergonomics in the car come from actually racing. Paddle shifting was first seen in F1 and it went from being in the European Versions of the foreign companies and now it is standard place as well very hard to get and almost impossible for American Cars.
The 1995 F1 season was the last season to ever see a car use manual transmission. This was the car : The Forti FG01, was the first car built by Forti to compete in F1. The team was building a F1 car for the first time, they decided to use older technology to try be more reliable. As well as the manual gearbox when all the other teams were using semi-automatic, the entire car was considered to be outdated and slow, like its bad aerodynamics. They would score no points for the 1995 season, and would eventually drop out of F1 midway through the 1996 season. What is also interesting to note is that a F1 car with a manual gearbox won a championship only 4 years before this failure. The McLaren MP4/6, driven by Senna, was the last F1 car with a manual gearbox to win a championship. This truly shows how fast F1 was developing new technologies and how quickly old ones were becoming obsolete.

The unique Paddle Shift gear option allows you to switch gears without using the clutch pedal. It allow you to change gear ratios automatically-freeing you from having to shift gears manually. The right paddle is for shifting up while the left paddle is for shifting down, which is the same as for an F1 machine.

Hi, The unique Paddle Shift gear option allows you to switch gears without using the clutch pedal. The 5AT (Automatic Transmission) allow you to change gear ratios automatically-freeing you from having to shift gears manually. The right paddle is for shifting up while the left paddle is for shifting down, which is the same as for an F1 machine. In D-range mode, the driver can shift up and down by using the paddles, while automatically returning to normal AT driving mode when a sensor determines the car is cruising. On the other hand, in S-range, the mode does not revert automatically to AT driving mode, which allows the driver to enjoy a manual transmission-like driving feel. I have tried to make is very simple to understand. Hope I have helped. Thank You & Take Care
Formula 1 Race Car Fastest most agile open wheel racing machine on the planet Vs Nascar Stock Car These vehicles are built for endurance and power Welll this is pretty straight forward, F1 vehicles are built with world class technology. They are engineered with the up most precision to win a world championship. They are built to cut through the air and race on very challenging race courses around the world. Stockcars are build on power pushing well over 850+hp reaching speeds over 200mph on oval race tracks around America. They are heavier and more solid than a Formula 1 car. Stockcars dont race on street and road courses that often and when they do they dont do so well racing around corners and accelerate out of compared to F1 cars. Formula 1 cars will out maneauver stock cars and accelerate out of the corners much faster. So without getting too complicated stockcars are heavier and much slower than F1 cars. They also use 4 speed manual transmission where as F1 drivers use paddle shifting from their steering wheels which considerably speeds up travel times between shifts. Winner ?
It just seems like the Cobra as its currently sold is really lacking in some things that would make it a lot better. Its already got a low center of gravity and low weight. Paddle shifting and center seating (with the convertible top down it would be far easier to get in and out of center seating!). It also usually doesn’t come with a proper roll bar system protecting both passengers. Considering how many owners this car has killed, it seems like that would be the first order of business along with a proper racing harness to really hold you in if it rolls. Taking this farther I envision a light, high powered convertible built somewhat like the 2001 Lotus Esprit Targa where the roll cage is part of the car and the hardtop roof is removable. Basically you build the car around the roll cage. Everything would hinge on that as its the cornerstone of structural integrity of the car. But if it had center seating it would be a pain to get in and out unless you climbed in and out from the roof and I don’t think even the most die hard auto nut would do that in public. So maybe a roll cage with diagonal side supports would be a happy compromise. Like this: This way you could step over the pipe on the side to get to the center seat.
F1 has used and does use sequential gearboxes and they are controlled by shift paddles. The paddle shift has nothing to with whether or not the gearbox is sequential, the paddles only control gear changes. F1 could use a stick or level to operate them but that would require the driver to take his hand off of the wheel.
Depends on how you look at it. For the teams, to make money and market their manufacturers brand and sponsors. Technological development which eventually trickles down to passenger cars, like paddle shifting. This includes engineering development of manufacturing and materials. To maintain, that F1 is the most technologically advance auto racing series in the world. It certainly not about improving the quality of racing for the fans. Which I am ok with. Look at the artificial racing of NASCAR. The rules are so control the cars are basically spec racing. Great for the fans, but not for technological development.
