In Thailand, new Volvo cars are protected from the sun

Volvo Cars Thailand (VCT) has taken quality control to the next level with the opening of a new warehouse. VCT knows the new warehouse as the Central Distribution and Training Centre (CDTC) and not only will it function as a distribution centre in the region but a training and service centre as well. As you know, VCT currently does not have a production plant in Thailand. The manufacturers rely on imports from Volvo Car’s various plants across the world, including Malaysia (Volvo XC40 and Volvo

Save up to RM 50k on a recond car or go for Certified Pre-Owned car?

When it comes to shopping for a car, terms like reconditioned cars and certified pre-owned (CPO) cars get tossed around a fair bit. On paper, both CPO and reconditioned (recond) cars are very similar – both are cheaper than a new car, allowing the buyer to save some money. But that’s where the similarities end, as they are world’s apart once you look closer. Recond cars – good on paper, but buyers beware While it may seem tempting to save RM 40k to RM 50k on a recond car versus a brand-new car,

Working for Lamborghini, Pagani, Koenigsegg, KTM and Dallara since 1974, Loris Bicocchi has a bigger ambition to do his own car at the age of 61. And the man drives like this: Sometimes, it's better to wait While Football is the most popular sport in Italy, it's not the most popular for Bicocchi. “I was never interested in football, just cars,” he says. Bicocchi shared the hometown of Sant'Agata Bolognese with Lamborghini, in the north of Italy. He used to stand in front of the company gates wai

To commemorate the end of the Alphard / Vellfire twins, Toyota will be introducing a final edition model of sorts for the Alphard / Vellfire twins. Spied: The all-new 2021 Kia Sorento is in Malaysia, but don't get too excited yet

In between everything that's going on with Kia Malaysia's ownership situation, it seems that at least one unit of the all-new 2021 Kia Sorento has landed in Malaysia. However, it might be a bit too early to expect its launch here anytime soon. You see, this MQ4-generation Sorento that was spotted in Shah Alam is actually a left-hand drive (LHD) unit. That in itself is a clue - Kia Motors Corporation has a regional training centre (for Asia Pacific) here in Malaysia, and this is very likely a tra

Used car dealers in Malaysia experiencing record-high sales in July 2020

Looks like car manufacturers are not the only ones that are currently enjoying a surge in sales. Used-car dealers are also reporting record-high sales in the few months since the Recovery Movement Control Order was put into effect. According to the Federation of Motor and Credit Companies Association of Malaysia (FMCCAM) president Datuk Tony Khor, the surge in demand for used cars is so good that the scenario is “simply too good to believe”. The surge in vehicle sales is believed to be spurred b

The economy is tanking but why are modern classic Honda Civics fetching high prices?

A global pandemic and signs of an impending economic depression are already slamming the automotive industry five ways to Thursday. Car sales are down, people are losing their jobs, and businesses are going bankrupt. We may be a meal away from financial Armageddon, which for some means it is a good time as any to buy an old Honda Civic Type R for RM300,000. Wait, what? That isn’t a lone case. More recently somebody bought a Mugen Civic Type R for half a million Ringgit. If that wasn’t brave enou

Toyota Harrier, buy a recond and save over RM20k or buy an official import?

Toyota Harrier Alongside the Toyota Alphard/Vellfire, the Toyota Harrier is an immensely popular luxury SUV. Part of the reason why the Harrier is so popular is the lack of competition – it has no direct rival either from Honda or Nissan. But the question remains – should you buy a cheap reconditioned (recond) unit or pay up for an officially-imported unit by UMW Toyota Motor? Let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons. Prices – Recond is cheaper, but for a good reason Prices start from RM 24

Civic is too strong, Binrui weak, will the Proton S50 have a chance in Malaysia?

First things first. There is no such thing as a Proton S50. The name exists not on any Proton car but merely on a list of nameplates trademarked by Proton, along with the Proton V70 and Proton C50. Still, Malaysians have a very high level of interest in Proton and for whatever reason, S50 is fast becoming a trending topic. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Local Internet users have somehow collectively concluded that the Proton S50 is a natural successor to the Proton Preve/Proton Waja, nevermi

After MCO, chip supply shortage is slowing car production in Malaysia

Just when you thought the car industry can get some respite after MITI’s corrective U-turn to allow automotive manufacturing to resume as the whole of Malaysia except for Sarawak goes back into MCO mode, we have been told by our friends working in the manufacturing sector that the much talked about worldwide shortage of semiconductor chips has hit Malaysia, threatening to halt production lines once more. No replacement planned yet for ageing Proton Saga, BMA platform too costly

The current generation Proton Saga, sometimes referred to as the P2-13A Saga, has been on the market since 2016. To keep it ahead of its biggest competitor the Perodua Bezza, Proton gave the A-segment Proton Saga sedan a mid-lifecycle facelift in 2019, adding a new touch screen infotainment, and a new Hyundai-sourced 4-speed automatic replacing the previous car’s lousy CVT, and more importantly, drop its price to be lower than the Bezza. Since the current Saga is basically a heavily modified ver

10 new models still to be launched in Malaysia! Oct. to be 2020’s most intense month for new car launches, why?

With at least five models confirmed to be launched in October, and another five more that are also very likely to join the growing list, October is definitely the busiest month of this year. That’s a nice problem to have considering the slump that the industry is in. Cumulative new vehicle sales in Malaysia for the first half of 2020 was down by over 40 percent compared to the same six-month period last year. A recond Toyota Alphard/Vellfire is nearly RM 44k cheaper than UMW Toyota's official import, should you buy the recond?

There's no doubt that the Toyota Alphard (and its Vellfire twin) is the best luxury MPV on the market. Few other cars can match the Alphard/Vellfire's spaciousness and ease of entrace/exit. Compared to a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the Alphard's sliding doors allow you to step in/out of the car as if it's a room, rather than a car. The only question left is whether to buy a cheap reconditioned (recond) unit or pay up for an officially-imported unit by UMW Toyota Motor? Let’s take a closer look at the

LaneWatch is too expensive for Honda, to be removed in future models

Initially conceived as a better alternative to blind spot monitoring, Honda’s ingenious LaneWatch system could be discontinued in the near future. What is Honda LaneWatch? Honda LaneWatch, like the name suggests, utilizes a camera mounted on the passenger-side wing mirror that feeds a video stream to your car’s head unit. The aim is to allow drivers to see if there are motorcyclists or other drives in their blind spot, and it also works in poor weather conditions. If it’s so good, why does Honda

2021 Suzuki Swift Sport: Should you buy recond or brand-new from Naza?

Prior to the return of Suzuki in Malaysia, those who wanted to buy the fourth-generation (ZC33S) Suzuki Swift Sport had to resort to reconditioned units, as recond dealers have been selling that model since 2019. During the long weekend, as Malaysians were celebrating the 63rd Merdeka Day, we were greeted by a couple of YouTube videos that showed a Proton Perdana gathering dust in an underground car park in the UK. When the 200 PS Toyota 86 was first launched in Malaysia in 2012, its asking price was RM 243,000 for the manual, and RM 249,000 for the automatic variant. For a supposedly affordable sports car, its pricing in Malaysia is hardly affordable at all. The more powerful (220 PS), more practical Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk7 can be had for about RM17k less, at RM 227,888. Toyota 86 UMW Toyota then introduced the facelifted 86 in 2017. Owners of the Toyota Hilux who feel their pick-up truck is a little too humdrum can now look towards Modellista's latest kit - which is now available in Malaysia!
