This guy blew a Koenigsegg Agera R engine by revving it hard at cold start

Koenigsegg Agera R is a very rare and expensive hypercar. Mere mortals who are given the chance to take a seat in one, let alone start-up and rev the 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8, can only consider themselves extremely lucky. But lady luck wasn’t on his side for this popular Chinese automotive vlogger. While documenting his first experience in an RMB 17 million (RM 10.2 million) Agera S, the vlogger was treated to a start-up and rev sequence. After the 1,140 PS engine came into life, he gave a few ha

Mr Hypercar: The man who turned every car he touched into gold

Working for Lamborghini, Pagani, Koenigsegg, KTM and Dallara since 1974, Loris Bicocchi has a bigger ambition to do his own car at the age of 61. And the man drives like this: Sometimes, it's better to wait While Football is the most popular sport in Italy, it's not the most popular for Bicocchi. “I was never interested in football, just cars,” he says. Bicocchi shared the hometown of Sant'Agata Bolognese with Lamborghini, in the north of Italy. He used to stand in front of the company gates wai

Top-3 most powerful cars with a 3-cylinder engine

Previously, we’ve explained why manufacturers continue the use of 3-cylinder engines. Fuel-efficiency and emission are among the top reasons, but what if they decide to extract every bit of performance from a 3-cylinder engine? So without further ado, here are the current top-3 most powerful cars, which are either on sale or will be on the market, with a 3-cylinder engine. BMW i8, from RM 1,408,800 The BMW i8 is actually more than 6 years old now and it still looks like it belongs in a sci-fi mo

320 PS/litre! Top-5 cars with the most horsepower per litre

Engine specific output is typically measured by power-per-litre. It shows how efficient an engine is at producing power relative to its size. In the past, 100 PS-per-litre was considered the holy grail, only found in supercars or high-performance sports cars. Now, especially with turbocharging, it has become a lot more common and some even go far beyond it. So, here are 5 cars that pretty much says, “size doesn’t matter.” Ford GT – 191 PS-per-litre Recently updated with slightly more power at 66

Increasingly powerful cars + overconfident drivers, recipe for disaster?

Recently, we've seen a spate of crashes/accidents involving high-performance cars. Most of these mishaps seem due to misplaced confidence. It's one thing to lose control unknowingly, it's another to turn off stability controls on a public road. This isn't uncommon. There are even YouTube channels dedicated to documenting crashes involving high-powered cars. Let's take a moment to explore why these crashes happen so frequently. Is it a driver problem? Or have cars just become so powerful, the ave

3-cylinder engine vibration, noise, and reliability: Still a problem?

In the recent years, we have welcomed some new three-cylinder engine cars to the world – the Nissan Almera 1.0 turbo, Honda City 1.0 turbo (Thailand), Proton X50, and more excitingly, the Toyota GR Yaris. Even Christian von Koenigsegg has channelled his genius into developing a 600 HP three-cylinder engine. With these developments however, some of us still remain very sceptical of them. We will never forget the underpowered three pots in tiny cars like the Perodua Kancil and Perodua Kelisa. Sure

Top Rank – 10 production cars with the wildest wings

How does one differentiate between a spoiler and a wing? Well, sage spaniel-haired motoring host James “Captain Slow” May has a novel way to differentiate between a wing and a spoiler. He said in a review for the Honda Civic Type R FK8 that if his head can go through the space, then it’s a wing. Well, that's a definition we can live by and the wing is one of those tools that many car fanboys love to show off thinking it makes their car faster. But those who have a much more mature taste in cars

Five slow cars that are actually fun to drive

Horsepower don’t make or break a car, even on a sports car. In fact, horsepower contributes no more than 20 percent to a car’s character. Don’t believe it? The dynamics of a cars is influenced by many factors, and power is just one of the many factors. Others include steering, weight and weight transfer, and even tyres. Save up to RM 50k on a recond car or go for Certified Pre-Owned car?

When it comes to shopping for a car, terms like reconditioned cars and certified pre-owned (CPO) cars get tossed around a fair bit. On paper, both CPO and reconditioned (recond) cars are very similar – both are cheaper than a new car, allowing the buyer to save some money. But that’s where the similarities end, as they are world’s apart once you look closer. Recond cars – good on paper, but buyers beware While it may seem tempting to save RM 40k to RM 50k on a recond car versus a brand-new car,

Running in your new car, still relevant?

Running in (or breaking in) your new car is a standard practice that has been recommended by car manufacturers for the longest time. The task is simple – drive the car until the designated mileage set for the first service (anything from 1,000-2,000 km), but do not exceed 3,000-4,000 rpm to let all the mechanical bits ‘set in’. However, automotive technology have advanced tremendously in the automotive world, with manufacturers utilizing better quality materials for the mechanical bits, all in t

Many people have different theories as to when they should service their cars. Some swears by the owner’s manual, others follow their gut feel. The latter, which we strongly advise against. There are many factors that affect the interval, or frequency, of your oil change process. Traditionally, it is recommended to change your oil every 5,000 km when using m

Sales tax exemption: Car companies scrambling for answers

It’s a frantic start of the week for many staff at car companies.
