Hideyuki Miyakawa – Japan’s secret agent of car design you never heard of

The early days of the car industry was dictated by Europe and America. Germany invented the combustion engine and the automobile, Italy made the best bodies, while USA pioneered mass production and market segmentation. Although Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi, and Isuzu – the earliest of Japanese manufacturers - traced their history back to the 1930s, Japan didn’t enter the automotive industry in a big way until the ‘60s. Intervention by the Japanese military government prior to World War 2 had force

Used Peugeot 308 (T7) for RM 20,000; Save cost on the car for the repairs?

Peugeots, unfortunately, are plagued by bad reputation. Low resale value being one of the worst rep it has, but these French babies are actually very comfortable and fun cars to drive. Probably the most popular model from Peugeot in Malaysia is the Peugeot 308, which is now on sale in the used car market for RM 20,000. Should you buy one? For this used car guide, we will focus on the Peugeot 308 T7 generation. The 308 is classified as a C-segment hatchback, but Nasim, the distributor for Peugeot

Once Japan’s strongest, Nissan is now weakest. How did it end up like this?

Nissan's car manufacturing history dates back to 1914, making it one of Japan’s oldest. Between the ‘60s until the ‘90s, Nissan was Japan’s most technologically advanced. When Toyota and Honda entered the car business in 1936 and 1962 respectively, Nissan was No.1. Today, it’s the weakest in Japan. It's a sad turn of events for the company that made the first Japanese car fast enough to beat a Porsche – at the 1966 Japanese Grand Prix, two R380s took the top two spots, ahead of three Porsche 906

Proton Putra WRC - The Malaysian rally prince with lots of potential

Before you cry out to Proton for yet another sad state of historic concepts and rally legends, let me just say that the Proton Putra WRC is under capable hands. So, please put down your keyboard gently and stop preparing a rant to Geely in the comments section. Let me tell you a tale of the wild Malaysian rally car that could’ve fought with the likes of Colin McRae and Tommi Makinen in their Imprezas and Lancer Evos. We’ve written an article featuring Proton’s PERT cars a while back and just to

Dahulunya No.1 di Jepun, Nissan kini yang paling lemah? Bukan silap Ghosn seorang.

Comparison: Proton Iriz R5 vs Satria Neo S2000, which local rally car would you take back?

The Proton Iriz R5 is a little rally-machine that was built to fit under FIA homologation rally specifications. It made waves at the infamous Goodwood Hillclimb a few years back and competed in a few British rallies last year. But if you ever wanted to own one, Mellors Elliot Motorsport (MEM) has released a sales brochure for the Iriz R5. That means you can now own one of these cool Malaysian rally cars and it only starts from 140,000. British pound sterling. If we convert that to Malaysian ring

The evolution of extreme Proton rally cars – Does rallying have a future in Malaysia?

Malaysia is home to the Sepang international Circuit, Pasir Gudang circuit, and Dato’ Sagor circuit. We even used to have a racing circuit in Batu Tiga that was once used to film the Jackie Chan film, “Thunderbolt”. We love motorsports and have gone to great lengths to make it more accessible. While track racing may be a little more popular, one motorsport that we absolutely love is rallying. We may not have winter stages and tall pine trees, but that hasn’t stopped us from enjoying the sport. T

Mugen is founded by Mr. Honda’s only son Hirotoshi, and this is his story

Mugen is synonymous with Honda, but not quite in the same way Gazoo Racing is with Toyota or STi is with Subaru. This is despite the fact that Mugen has a much longer history – since 1973 - and is the only one who can boast of victories in Formula One (1999, Jordan-Honda). For many people in this part of the world, their first encounter with the Mugen brand is on some tacky stickers on a badly modified Honda, partly because Mugen is independent from Honda, which also means that it doesn't benefi

What if you could afford a RM600k electric SUV?

If you love the sound of a revving engine, the aroma of gasoline, and shifting your own gears, you might not like where this is going. The Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-Pace, and the Mercedes-Benz EQC, are stuffs of nightmare for the orthodox petrolhead. Not only are the cars crossovers, or “SUVs”, they’re also electric. The Court of Appeal has upheld a lower court ruling that the management of a car park is liable of negligence rendering disclaimers of exemption clauses posted by the car park non-viable. The world doesn’t need manual cars anymore

Stalling engines, nerve-wracking hill starts, and jerky gear shifts are some of the memories you might have of obtaining your driver’s license. If you had taken your driver’s license prior to 2014, you had to do it with a manual transmission car. It most likely didn’t have power steering too. You didn’t have a choice. Today, a Malaysian driver’s license can be obtained either with a manual or an automatic car. While driving enthusiasts stand by the mantra that driving a manual makes you a better

Save up to RM 50k on a recond car or go for Certified Pre-Owned car?

When it comes to shopping for a car, terms like reconditioned cars and certified pre-owned (CPO) cars get tossed around a fair bit. On paper, both CPO and reconditioned (recond) cars are very similar – both are cheaper than a new car, allowing the buyer to save some money. But that’s where the similarities end, as they are world’s apart once you look closer. Recond cars – good on paper, but buyers beware While it may seem tempting to save RM 40k to RM 50k on a recond car versus a brand-new car,
