The 2021 Perodua Ativa's standard safety kit is better than the Proton X50

With every passing day, we find out more information about the hotly-anticipated Perodua Ativa/D55L. If you didn't already know, the Ativa boasts a lot of car for not a lot of money. Today, we take a look at the safety features that are on offer in all the variants that will be sold in Malaysia. Impressive standard safety features It's quite commendable of Perodua to include the safety systems I consider non-negotiables, which are ABS, VSC and the usual gamut of airbags (front, side, curtain). Without the necessary paperwork, the Accounts/Finance division at car companies are unable to proceed or give any answers.

An image purporting to be new retail prices for Toyota models has surfaced on social media, indicating that one can save as much as RM 17,391 off a brand-new Toyota in the upcoming zero percent sales tax period. But that isn’t the case, as Toyota have yet to officially announce the updated prices. According to the latest info from the Japan Automobile Dealers Association (JADA), Toyota is dominating November sales with the Toyota Raize (the basis for the Perodua D55L) and Toyota Harrier both topping the SUV best-sellers chart. The report covered 81 different countries and focusses on the average time spent in traffic, the amount of carbon dioxide consumed in traffic,

Future Geely models to be closer to Volvo’s, but Proton might lose out – here’s why

Last week, Geely Auto, not to be confused with parent company Geely Holding which owns the Volvo Car Group, announced that it will no longer merge with Volvo Car. Instead, both Geely Auto and Volvo Car will remain separate (but still operating under the umbrella of Geely Holding), but will instead work together on specific electric vehicles- and driverless car-related projects. In layman’s terms, it means that the Swedes at Volvo Cars and Chinese at Geely Auto will continue to do their own thing

When was the last time you checked your tyre pressure?

I know I haven’t checked mine in a while, to be fair. I also can’t remember the last time I pumped air into my tyres, let alone checking the tyre pressure. It wasn’t until my colleague Adrian pointed out that the ride of my car felt odd, and recommended that I checked my tyre pressure just to be sure. I swung by a nearby petrol station to get my tyre pressure checked, and yes, all four of my tyres had really low pressure, one of them as low as 23 PSI. Yup, 23 PSI. That is much lower than the man

Critics can keep quiet. Perodua has just set its highest ever monthly sales in 26 years

You can say that you want about Perodua. Good if you like the company, but the company couldn’t be bothered if you think lowly of its budget cars anyway. Since launching the first Kancil in 1994, the company has developed a laser-like focus on its customers, giving them what they want, which turns out to be just very regular cars that are cheap to buy, cheap to run, cars that go about their duties with zero drama. Perodua ended September by recording its highest ever monthly sales of 25,035 unit

Earlier this week, Proton received a lot of flak for auctioning off its prototypes, concept cars including the ItalDesign Giugiaro’s Emas concept, and even Karamjit Singh’s former PERT rally car. Critics say that Proton’s new Chinese owners from Geely were being disrespectful of Proton’s heritage, and that many of these cars deserve a spot in a museum. But I digress. Rewind for a moment the timelines. These cars have been locked away and left to rot by its Malaysian owners long before Geely came

Indonesia will limit import of Proton X70 until Malaysia opens up its car market further

Last week, this column discussed the challenges that lie ahead in exporting the Proton X70 to Indonesia. While the Proton X70 was able to race to the top of the sales chart almost as soon as it was launched, it will not enjoy such luxury in Indonesia. The relocation has been planned several years earlier so the decision is not directly related to the current poor market outlook, although the Toyota’s falling market share over the last 5 years was probably a motivating factor in right-sizing the organization.
