Once popular in Malaysia, what happened to the Honda Stream and Toyota Wish?

Twenty years ago, when the MPV was still an in-thing, Honda launched the Stream. Three years later, in 2003, Toyota launched its own challenger into the ring, the Wish. Both these MPVs were a delight among families who wanted an MPV that gave off a sporty presence. They were once commonly seen on Malaysian roads, and perhaps some of you reading this might even grow up with one. Eventually, the idea of a car-like MPV evolved into crossover SUVs as both the Toyota Wish and Honda Stream saw sales d

Did you know that road tax don't go into road maintenance funds?

If you are surprised to find out that the road tax we pay every year doesn’t contribute to paying for road repairs then safe to say you’re not alone. The fact came to light after the much-talked-about pothole accident that Minister Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ) got into just weeks ago. According to a study, 80 percent of pothole accidents happen on roads that don’t require road users to pay tolls. Malaysia has also been rated the country with the third-highest road crash deaths in ASEAN. Responding to

Road tax paid to JPJ don’t go to road maintenance, so what are we paying for?

Most of us take it for granted that road tax, by virtue of its name, goes directly into maintenance of non-tolled roads, but that's actually not true. Instead, road tax is just yet another channel of government revenue, and it's not used exclusively for road maintenance. Which begs the obvious question, what are we paying for then? Before we go further and for the benefit of those who missed our last article, here's some background. The former Director General of MIROS (Malaysian Institute of Ro

There’s plenty of advice out there that says “Hey, you’ve just started working, it’s best you get a brand new car because they're reliable and cheaper to maintain!"
