Toyota Thailand has launched the 2024 Toyota Hilux Revo GR Sport 'Wide Thread' to give its full name, which now succeeds the older model – launched in Thailand in 2021 – and ups the ante with more rugged styling, chassis improvements and more power.
Taking its place as the flagship variant in Thailand, the GR Sport Wide Thread is priced at THB 1,499 million (~RM 197k).

Starting with the powertrain, the robust 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre inline-four turbodiesel engine has been fettled to produce 224 PS and 550 Nm of torque, up from 204 PS and 500 Nm previously.
Contributing to more power is an upgraded direct fuel injection system which operates at 275 MPa now (265 MPa previously), a new Euro 5 compliant particulate filter and a newly tuned engine control unit (ECU). However, these power outputs still mirror the Malaysian Hilux GR Sport.
What the Malaysia-spec model doesn’t get though is the brutish widebody kit and the accompanying chassis upgrades.
Aesthetically, the GR Sport Wide Thread takes cues from the Australian market variant, featuring a wider front bumper, a front grille, and a widebody kit that notably enhances its stance with overfenders.
This kit widens the front track by 140 mm and the rear by 155 mm, accommodating larger 265/65 profile BF Goodrich AT tyres mounted on 17-inch wheels.
The vehicle also sees an increase in ground clearance by 37 mm, which is supported by a new Monotube shock absorber system with retuned front coil springs and rear leaf springs.
In addition, the GR Sport Wide Thread also receives a larger front stabiliser bar, thicker front wishbones, larger 17-inch front brake discs (up from 16 inches), and rear drum brakes have also been swapped out for disc brakes, replete with red brake callipers.
Thus, the Hilux GR Sport Wide Thread's dimensions have expanded, measuring 5,320 mm in length, 2,020 mm in width, and 1,880 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,085 mm.
This is Compared to 5,320 mm (length), 1,900 mm (width) and 1,865 mm (height) for the Malaysian-spec Hilux GR Sport. The adjustments have also increased ground clearance to 217 mm.

On the inside, the Hilux GR Sport Wide Thread gets a new 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, auto-dimming rearview mirror, a wireless charging pad, USB-C ports for rear passengers, and updated suede material upholstery to match its macho exterior.
Thailand now becomes the second ASEAN market, after the Philippines to offer the Hilux GR Sport Wide Thread. However, there is no news for now at least, that it will make it to Malaysia. Our Hilux GR Sport, on the other hand, was introduced in 2023 and is priced at RM 169,080.
