The Haval H6 PHEV has yet to go on sale in Thailand, but it's already in Malaysia
Haval H6 for Malaysia could be packed with features, including a sunroof
Those looking at C-segment SUVs may want to wait for the Haval H6
For those who attended GWM’s event yesterday, the Ora Good Cat may be the star, but there were some secrets lurking in the basement car park in the form of the yet-to-be launched Haval H6.
Not just any Haval H6, mind you, as we also spotted the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Haval H6 – a model that made its debut in Thailand but has yet to go on sale.
Now, despite its thick camouflage, this particular Haval H6 can be easily distinguished as the PHEV variant by its oversized front grille, as well as charging port on the right side of the SUV. In addition to that, the PHEV emblem can be seen through the camouflage.
Power for the Haval H6 PHEV comes from a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to an electric motor, allowing for a combined system output of 330 PS and 530 Nm.
Peeking inside, the Haval H6 PHEV seems to be packed to the brim, featuring full leather upholstery, digital instrument cluster, floating-style infotainment display, knob-type shifter, electric parking brake (EPB) with auto hold, and even a sunroof.
At this point of time, it’s hard to discern the other variants of the Haval H6 that we spotted, though equipment count, at least from our quick glance, appears to mirror the PHEV model.
Globally, the Haval H6 is available with a range of powertrains. Our neighbours up north in Thailand gets their Haval H6 with a petrol-electric 1.5-litre hybrid that does 243 PS and 530 Nm, while other right-hand drive markets like South Africa and Australia can be had with a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder that does 204 PS and 320 Nm.
And unlike Proton and their insistence on not adopting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on their models, Haval does the opposite, offering support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on export versions of their models.
With the Haval H6 shaping up to be a formidable challenger in the C-segment SUV market, buyers will soon have a new alternative to the usual suspects, such as the Proton X70, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-5.
