While our colleagues continue to spend the weekend with the 2022Perodua Myvi facelift, WapCar.my also took the opportunity to catch up with the brand and find out what plans it has in store for 2022. And surprise surprise, Perodua is exploring the possibility of exporting its used cars.
Yes, Malaysia's second carmaker already has presence in a few countries, but this whole time, the exports have obviously been only new cars. According to Perodua, this idea was driven by its observation that there is a glut of used cars in Malaysia.
Even when it comes to Perodua cars, many customers who buy new Peroduas also trade in their old ones. This obviously causes an excess in the inventory of used Perodua cars, one that has presumably caused real estate problems.
Perodua is studying ways to dispose them in an environmentally friendly way. Of course, one of the solutions being considered would be to export these selection of used cars to the overseas market.
At the moment, Perodua cannot disclose which countries are being considered for this export exercise. However, it would make sense to give preference to countries that Perodua already have a presence in, which are Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Seychelles, Brunei, Mauritius, and Fiji.
For the time being at least, Perodua is still doing its feasibility study on the process and pricing mechanism for exporting these used cars. What we can say is, watch this space as more developments will come soon.
