After a few months since it was first previewed here, the locally-assembled (CKD Pekan) 2024 VW Golf R finally has its confirmed pricing in Malaysia, starting from RM 332,900. This price includes the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP), which offers owners 5 years of maintenance, a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, and 5 years of roadside assistance.

It is also the first time any Golf R is assembled outside of Wolfsburg, Germany. CKD assembly also makes it circa RM 20k cheaper than when the model was first launched here as a CBU car back in 2022 (RM 358k then).

The Golf R is equipped with the “R Performance Package,” featuring a titanium Akrapovič exhaust, 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels, a new rear spoiler, and “Drift” and “Special” modes.

These modes, accessible via the “R” button on the steering wheel, enhance the customization options for the drivetrain and chassis. “Drift” mode prioritises torque to the rear wheels for controlled slides, while “Special” mode adjusts suspension settings for optimal performance, especially on backroads.

Specifically designed for the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, the “Special” mode tailors the Golf R’s setup to meet the demands of this challenging racetrack. The 2.0 TSI 4-cylinder turbo engine delivers 320 PS and 400 Nm of torque. Paired with a 7-speed wet-type, dual-clutch DSG transmission, the Golf R accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h. 4Motion all-wheel drive is standard.

The Golf R is visually distinguished by its motorsport-inspired R front bumper and R radiator grille. It is available in three colors: Lapiz Blue, Deep Black, and Pure White. Inside, the Golf R features R decorative trim in Carbon Grey, premium Nappa sport leather seats with R styling, and an R performance steering wheel with blue backlit R button and shift paddles.

Additional features include a Head-Up Display (HUD), a 10-inch Discover Pro infotainment system with a 10-speaker, 480-watt Harman Kardon sound system, wireless smartphone charging, and automatic high beam assist.

The Golf R is also equipped with IQ.DRIVE technology and advanced driver assistance systems such as Travel Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Side Assist, Front Assist, Lane Assist, and Emergency Assist.

The Golf R will be showcased at the Malaysia Autoshow, from 22- to 26-May 2024 at MAEPS in Serdang. Also on display at the Volkswagen booth in Hall 2 will be the all-new Touareg R-Line and Arteon R-Line.

Visitors to the Malaysia Autoshow can take advantage of special promotions, with savings of up to RM36,000. Purchasers of the Arteon will receive free scheduled maintenance for the first 7 years of ownership.
