When it comes to buying a used car, what you see isnāt always what you get. In fact, more often than not, what you canāt see is probably what youāll end up gettingā¦ in the form of a hefty repair bill down the road. CARSOME understands the consumerās need for transparency and subjects all cars listed on its site to a comprehensive 175-point inspection.
The primary purpose of the inspection is to ensure that each car listed fulfills CARSOMEās strict criteria to ensure the vehicleās high quality. This includes ensuring each car is free of major accidents, fire and flood damage as well as mileage tampering.
It doesnāt stop there though, the inspection brings out the magnifying glass and shines a spotlight on every detail of roadworthiness from the lights to the seatbelts.
Once the inspection is completed, the results are published together with every car posted in the inventory on CARSOMEās website and app. All imperfections and issues will be listed down in the inspection report with photos on the carās detail listing page.
Deciphering the report
Being completely transparent is great but the number of details listed in the report can be overwhelming for certain users. Donāt worry, we will walk you through how to read the report so you know the car inside out before you even go for the test drive!
Let's take a little look at decoding the report and making head or tail of all the information it contains.
It goes without saying but the first step is to browse CARSOMEās inventory online and find the particular car youāre interested in. Click on the car listing and youāll find yourself on this page, with the inspection report below the photo of the car. Weāve highlighted it in red for you.
Now, no used car is perfect though CARSOME goes a long way to ensure the cars on its platform are close to it via the CARSOME Certified Lab. Once youāve clicked on the inspection report, youāll find yourself here. The main thing to note is the number of imperfections.
From there, you can see that the imperfections are divided into 4 categories:
- Exterior
- Interior
- Road test
- Undercarriage
Each category will have an orange circle with a number within that denotes the number of imperfections in that area. Clicking on each category,
you can see a list of all the inspected components and their condition; whether or not they have any imperfection. A green tick means itās all good.
The best part of the report is that each imperfection is accompanied by a photo. You can click on it to enlarge the image and scroll through the gallery to see all the imperfections. It should look like the images below.
If you prefer to view in-depth details of the entire 175-point inspection, that can be accessed as well. You can click on 'View Full Report' that's highlighted in the screen grab below.
Once you click on it, the full report will load and you'll find yourself viewing this.
From this, you can see that the imperfections have been further broken down into more specific categories and are still accompanied by photos. Alongside the report, CARSOME has also included detailed explanations regarding the testing done for each specific area and the reasoning behind them. That's highlighted in the red box below.
Of course, the photos of imperfections are present and this time, when you click on it, a diagram pops up next to the photo indicating the area or surface of the car where the imperfection is located.
If you're satisfied with the condition of the car and you're ready to book a test drive, you just have to go back to the car's page and click the 'Free Test Drive' button.
Once you have clicked on the button, you will be required to fill up a form with your details to book a test drive at one of CARSOMEās Experience Centers. Their friendly Customer Service agent will call you to confirm your appointment.
