Lexus LF-ZC previews next-gen EV sedan due in 2026, electric successor to the IS?

Lexus has unveiled the LF-ZC (Lexus Future Zero-emission Catalyst) concept at the Japan Mobility Show, signalling its entry into the upcoming generation of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), which is expected to launch in 2026.

The LF-ZC's initial specifications include an overall length of 4,750 mm, width of 1,880 mm, height of 1,390 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,890 mm, with a targeted drag coefficient value of under 0.2 Cd. These dimensions are not too far off the current-generation Lexus IS.

Lexus describes the LF-ZC as having "sleek proportions, low centre of gravity, spacious cabin, and an emotionally charged design that seamlessly blends functionality and aesthetics."

While specific technical details about the battery, range, and power output are yet to be disclosed, it aims to provide roughly double the range of conventional BEVs with next-generation prismatic high-performance batteries, and there's speculation that it might incorporate Toyota's solid-state batteries.

Power distribution in the LF-ZC is managed by Lexus' Direct4 system, and it includes the Steer-By-Wire technology.

Inside, the interior design maximizes space and streamlines controls for ease of use. Lexus places emphasis on sustainability with the Bamboo CMF (Colour, Material, Finish) Concept, exploring new ways to utilize traditional materials.

There’s an array of screens, including a central display for the driver and a large passenger-side landscape screen referred to as the Intelligent Cockpit.

It features AI-powered voice recognition system that provides responsive and personalized service, offering route and mode recommendations tailored to the driver's preferences based on daily activities and mood. The new Arene OS software enables customisation and over-the-air (OTA) updates.
