Refueling and hypermiling banned: KL-Penang-KL with just 1 tank, can the hybrid Honda City e:HEV RS do it? 01

The Honda City RS e:HEV is one of those cars that prove you can have your cake and eat it too. The range-topping model of the City range features a two-motor full-hybrid powertrain that promises performance on tap, whilst still sipping fuel at the pumps.

With 109 PS and a whopping 253 Nm of torque, the City RS e:HEV deserves its chops as a performance sedan for the common man, but what about fuel efficiency?

The Challenge

window.googletag = window.googletag || {cmd: []}; googletag.cmd = googletag.cmd || []; googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.defineSlot('/22557728108/my_article_fourthp_under_pc', [ 728, 90 ], 'div-gpt-ad-1685525140735-0').addService(googletag.pubads()); googletag.pubads().enableSingleRequest(); googletag.pubads().collapseEmptyDivs(); googletag.enableServices(); });
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1685525140735-0'); });

To test this, we thought up a huge challenge. Can the City RS e:HEV make it from KL to Penang Island, travel within the city to several food hotspots, and then travel back to KL on a single tank of fuel?

Additionally, the test must be a measure of real-world driving, so drivers will not be feather-footing the throttle or turning off the AC - the City RS e:HEV must keep up with highway traffic and be driven responsibly.

The distance for a round trip from KL to Penang is approximately 750 km. Will the Honda City RS e:HEV make it? Check out the video above to see how Adrian and the gang got on.

Having concluded the test, the Honda City RS e:HEV managed a whopping 814 km (~ 81km of range left) comfortably completing the trip to Penang before refueling.

In churning the numbers, the City RS e:HEV delivered tested fuel efficiency of just 4.05 litres/100 km

Honda City e:HEV FC test results
Total distance travelled 814 km
Total refuel 33.01 litre
Total cost RM 67.66
Cost per KM RM 0.08
FC as tested 4.05 litres/100 km
Estimated 1-tank distance  986 km

However, great fuel economy was only telling half the story of how talented the City RS e:HEV is.

Driving the City RS e:HEV over long distances is made even easier courtesy of a beautifully designed and spacious interior that remains comfortable over longer journeys.

Additionally as noted by the WapCar team, the Honda Sensing ADAS suite further eliminates stress and keeps you safe when driving courtesy of brilliantly calibrated assistance features such as Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

To recap, the range-topping Honda City RS e:HEV retails for RM 108,800, excluding insurance.
