Toyota 86
TBC
Toyota 86 Overview The Toyota 86 has long been hailed by petrol heads and purist alike as one of the best driver’s car on the road. Co-developed with fellow Japanese performance car manufacturer Subaru in 2012, Toyota 86 became the spiritual successor to the iconic 1983 Toyota AE86 made popular by the Japanese animation series Initial D in the mid 90s. Assembled alongside its twin sister the Subaru BRZ in Ota city of Gunma Prefecture Japan, they share nearly identical mechanical parts. Also known as the GT86 to the Europeans and Scion FR-S to the North Americans, the Toyota 86 is a 2.0-Litre, front-engine, lightweight, two-door, fastback coupé with rear wheel drive only. It’s a sportscar recipe straight out of car enthusiast’s cookbook. Weighing in at just 1,275 kg, it promises accessible performance and superior handling quality. With power sent only to its deliberately skinny rear wheels, the car is easily persuaded into an oversteer when introduced to a corner. Yet the car feels planted and in control at all times thanks largely to its low mounted boxer engine which translate to low centre of gravity. Priced starting from RM257,502, it is significantly more expensive than the Subaru BRZ which is sold at a much affordable starting price of RM 211,729. Alternatively, the Mazda MX-5 roadster, Mini Cooper S , or the 3rd generation Audi TT coupé make a good case against the Toyota 86.
Mazda MX-5
RM 258,591-260,527
Mazda MX-5 Overview The Mazda MX-5 is simply the most recognizable and the best-selling roadster in the world! It held the Guinness World Record for the best-selling two-seater sports car since 2000. Hailing from the prefecture of Hiroshima, Japan, over one million units of the Mazda MX-5 rolled out the assembly plant since it was first introduced back in 1989. Despite its popularity on a global scale, it remained one of the lesser-seen Mazda models on Malaysian roads today. The Mazda MX-5, or more fondly known as the Miata, is a 2.0-litre, front-mid-engine, rear-wheel drive, lightweight, two-door convertible sports car, promising superior handling and unadulterated road feel. Weighing in at 1,137kg with the retractable hard top (the only roof option available in Malaysia), Mazda MX-5 is one of the lightest modern sports cars on the road today and a purist’s dream. Throughout its 4 generations of evolution, the fundamental concept has remained largely unchanged and 2021 sees the latest iteration with a minor mid-life update in Malaysia with the introduction of wireless Apple Car Play. Considering the niche proposition that the Mazda MX-5 offers, there aren’t many natural rivals currently on sale in Malaysia that will go head-to-head with the roadster. Priced starting from RM 258,591, the Toyobaru twins (Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ), 2020 Mini Convertible Cooper S and the Lotus Elise are the closest comparable rivals in terms of pricing and performance, the latter closer to a track car than a convertible. Other alternatives include the likes of the BMW Z4 and the Porsche Boxster, both of which are on a different performance level with a premium price tag that goes with it.

Toyota through its racing arm the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, has partnered up with BMW to develop the now fifth generation Toyota GR Supra. Underneath the expressive exterior, the Toyota GR Supra shares the same platform, engine, mechanical parts and a good majority of its interior with the latest BMW Z4 . And unlike the previous generations Japanese thoroughbred, the new Toyota GR Supra will be assembled alongside the G29 BMW Z4 in Graz, Austria. The 2021 model is priced starting from RM611,880 (OTR without insurance) or RM589,987 with SST exemption. It is easily the most expensive Toyota on sale in Malaysia today. Ferrari 812 Superfast
TBC
Ferrari 812 Superfast – Overview The Ferrari 812 Superfast, first and most difficult challenge face when it decides to develop a new model is to push the boundaries of its own achievements. This challenge is made tougher that involves designing a new 12-cylinder engine, the power unit that hailed the start of the glorious Prancing Horse story 70 years ago in 1947 and is the most powerful and fastest road-going Ferrari ever built. The Ferrari 812 Superfast’s first digit relates to the car's power rating of 800 Cavalli Vapore—Italian for horsepower, which translates to 789 horses and the 12, that corresponds to the cylinder count. The stunning prancing horses boast a melodious naturally aspirated V-12 housed between front fenders so perfectly shaped, they could have been carved by Michelangelo. The convertible variant, called the GTS, the droptop shares much with the coupe. Compared with the Superfast, the GTS has a similarly sleek look, but its tail end incorporates two buttresses that house the roof-folding mechanism. Ferrari offers the 812 Superfast and GTS in a single spec that features carbon-ceramic brake rotors, 20-inch wheels, and an interior slathered in aromatic leather. According to Ferrari, they "visually embody a sense of forward thrust." The Ferrari 812 Superfast rivals that includes Aston Martin DBS, Lamborghini Aventador and McLaren 570S.
