The car made its global debut in 2014 at the Paris Motor Show in the GT and GT S trim. A mid-life facelift was subsequently introduced three years later in 2017 before making its way to Malaysia in 2019. Codenamed the C190, the two facelifted models introduced to the local market are the AMG GT C and the high-performance AMG GT R variant, both in the hard top coupé form, and powered by a monstrous AMG 4.0 litre Bi-turbo V8 engine.
Like all AMG models, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT is designed and developed in Affalterbach. The engines are hand-built in-house by a dedicated technician according to AMG’s ‘One Man, One Engine’ philosophy, before handed over for final assembly at the Mercedes-Benz assembly plant in Sindelfingen, Germany. Prices for the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT starts from RM 1,558,888 and RM 1,712,888 (OTR without insurance) respectively. Dubbed the Beast of the Green Hell (Nürburgring), the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT means business and attempts to dethrone the default segment favourite, the Porsche 911.
Engine- The glorious AMG 4.0 litre V8 Bi-Turbo engine requires no further introduction. Whether it’s in the GT C or the GT R, it delivers immense performance effortlessly with no discernible turbo lag. It sounds fantastic too thanks to AMG performance exhaust system.
Design- Evocative and fluidic design accentuates the sporty and athletic stance of the car. AMG GT 3 race car-inspired design elements elevate the already aggressive exterior design.
Ride and Handling- Advanced AMG Ride Control suspension system with multimode 3-stage adaptive damping offers a sophisticated ride and agile handling.
Maneuvering- The exaggerated classic GT proportion with elongated bonnet will require some getting used to before you can comfortably tell where the front of the car is.
Visibility- Shallowly raked thick A pillars and narrow rear openings limits all round visibility. The huge rear wing in the GT R doesn’t help either.
