Engine

The Toyota Yaris Cross is available in two powertrains- a regular naturally aspirated petrol unit and a self-charging hybrid petrol-electric unit, both based on the new 1.5-litre three-cylinder Dynamic Force engine. Key technological features in the new generation engine include a long-stroke ratio and wide valve angles for strong tumble flow and direct fuel injection. The variable valve timing also extends for a longer duration.

Power outputs for the Toyota Yaris Cross 1.5 are 120 PS at 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm, while the Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid has a combined system output of 116 PS from both the engine and electric motors. Separately, the fuel consumption optimized 1.5-litre engine dishes out 92 PS at a lower 5,500 rpm and 121 Nm of torque, while the electric motor pushes even higher torque levels of 141 Nm and a maximum output of 80 PS.

Self-charging technology means one cannot plug the Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid into a power socket to extend the electric range, which is typically under 2 km in our tropical climate. A lithium-ion battery pack is placed under the rear seat, thus making the boot even more spacious

Transmission
