When we spied the Ora Good Cat in a non-descript location in Shah Alam, another Ora electric vehicle (EV) was also sitting alongside it. The Ora Black Cat or also known as the Ora R1, is Great Wall Motors’ (GWM) (Ora’s parent company) most affordable electric vehicle as prices for the EV ranges from 59,800 RMB to 77,800 RMB (RM 37,894 – RM 49,300).
The Black Cat is a much smaller car than the Ora Good Cat, it is primarily aimed at China’s young and upcoming city dwellers. And yes, the cutesy urban hatch does largely resemble the Honda e, Honda’s new EV.
While the Black Cat’s electric motor produces just 49 PS, it has the torque numbers that could match a 1.3-litre naturally aspirated engine at 125 Nm.
And before you declare that the Honda e would be your choice, get this: The Black Cat one-ups the e with 301 km worth of range compared to the e’s mere 220 km. Longer range is always welcomed, right?
At the moment there is still no hint on how much the Black Cat will cost if it is launched in Malaysia. But will it really be launching to Malaysia? Watch this space as we expect GWM’s local representative to make an announcement soon.
