Bargain Volvo XC90? The 2021 Lynk & Co 09 is priced from RM 194k in China

Late last month, Lynk & Co unveiled the brand-new 2021 Lynk & Co 09 – its largest SUV yet. Despite its 09 name, the new model is Lynk &Co's seventh model in their line-up.

Like its Swedish cousin, the new Lynk & Co 09 is built on the Volvo Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) – the very first model outside the Volvo marque to utilize this platform. Other Lynk & Co models are developed on the BMA and CMA platforms.

Now, more details surrounding Lynk & Co’s flagship SUV have surfaced, including its estimated prices.

In China, prices of the Lynk & Co 09 are estimated to start from CNY 299,800 (~RM 194k) – that’s almost half the price of the Volvo XC90, which has a starting price of CNY 538,900 (~RM 349k). The 09 range tops out at CNY 336,800 (~RM 218k), still cheaper than its Swedish cousin.

The Lynk & Co 09 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Electrified versions of the 09 are expected to be introduced in the future, mirroring the XC90’s powertrain options.

Apart from those details, the Lynk & Co 09’s wheelbase has also been confirmed – its wheelbase is 2,984 mm, identical to the Volvo XC90. It is also marginally longer and wider than the XC90, as shown in the table below.

Dimension Comparison
  Lynk & Co 09 Volvo XC90
Length (mm) 5,042 4,950
Width (mm) 1,977 1,958
Height (mm) 1,780 1,776
Wheelbase (mm) 2,984 2,984

In terms of design, the Lynk & Co front fascia is instantly recognisable with the two headlights sitting at the very top. It also gets vertical slats in the front grille, something which was never before seen in a Lynk & Co model.

Out goes the Volvo XC90's vertical LED tail lights, as the Lynk & Co 09 gets sleek-looking horizontal units with its signature blocky lighting elements.

Being Lynk & Co’s top-of-the-line model, it gets a long list of features, including Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats (driver’s seat adds memory function), quad-zone automatic climate control with Air Quality System (AQS), 14-speaker audio setup, and a built-in digital video recorder (DVR).

Three variants will be available at launch

The Lynk & Co 09 is expected to hit showrooms in China later this year.

WapCar Editor’s comment:

Despite being a relatively unknown brand a few years ago, Lynk & Co is quickly changing that, establishing themselves as one of the strongest up-and-coming marques in China.

Being under the Geely umbrella certainly helped, as it allows for greater parts sharing between models, reducing the cost to develop brand-new hardware. A bargain Volvo XC90? What’s not to like?

And that pretty much sums up the new Lynk & Co 09 – a product born at the right time by the right company.
