2021 Volvo S90 Recharge T8 launched in Malaysia; from RM 339k, 180 km/h speed limit

Volvo Car Malaysia has officially launched the new 2021 Volvo S90 facelift. At launch, there are 2 variants available – T5 Momentum and Recharge T8 Inscription Plus. The T8 is priced at RM 339,314 (OTR without insurance and SST), while the T5’s price after SST exemption is yet to be confirmed.

Comparatively, the pre-facelift Volvo S90 T8 Inscription Plus was priced at RM 368,920 after SST exemption. This makes the facelifted S90 Recharge T8 around RM 19k cheaper than before.

Before we continue, we'd like to extend our gratitude to FA Wagen for the photo opportunity.

Like the recently-launched Volvo XC40 T5 Recharge, the Volvo S90 T8 now gets the Recharge designation to signify electrification. And in Volvo's pursuit of safety, both variants have their top speed limited at 180 km/h along with the rest of the Volvo lineup.

Exterior changes are subtle compared to the pre-facelift Volvo S90. The front bumper has been redesigned with a horizontal chrome strip that stretches through the width of the car. The fog lights are smaller as well.

Over of the rear, the taillamps get revised graphics with a more three-dimensional design. Sequential turn indicators are also featured. The rear bumper gets a horizontal chrome strip as well and the exhaust tips have been banished.

Both variants feature 19-inch wheels, wrapped in 255/40 profile tyres.

Inside, changes are modest as well. In the T8 Inscription Plus, there’s a redesigned Orrefors crystal gear knob and the 12V socket at the rear is now replaced by 2 USB-C charging points. Customers are able to choose either the Pitch Oak or Grey Ash interior inlay.

Equipment wise, both variants get Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity. The T8 Inscription Plus variant gets an improved Bowers & Wilkins sound system with a new amplifier and noise cancellation, plus Nappa leather seats.

No changes have been made to the powertrain; the T8 variant gets a 2.0-litre turbocharged and supercharged engine paired to an 8-speed automatic that drives the front wheels, while electric motors power the rear wheels, generating a combined output of 407 PS and 640 Nm of torque.

It has an 11.6 kWh lithium-ion battery with an all-electric driving range of up to 58 km.

Meanwhile, the T5 Momentum uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder producing 254 PS and 350 Nm of torque, paired to a 8-speed automatic that powers the front wheels.

As expected from Volvo, both S90 variants come with the IntelliSafe suite of ADAS with Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Front & Rear Collision warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Pilot Assist.

The T8 variant adds on Park Assist Pilot with Parallel Parking & Perpendicular Parking and 360-degree Surround View Camera.

The 2021 Volvo S90 facelift is covered by a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty. For the Recharge T8 variant, the hybrid battery warranty is covered by an 8-year/160,000 km warranty, whichever comes first.
