The Maserati Grecale is coming to Malaysia to challenge the Porsche Macan; Up to 530 PS/620 Nm

Maserati has just unveiled a new model in its SUV line-up, the Maserati Grecale. It slots below the Maserati Levante, offering a more compact package and goes against the Porsche Macan.

It’s said to be inspired by the Maserati MC20 with design elements taken from it and adapted into an SUV. Like the MC20, the Grecale now takes on a vertical rather than a horizontal aspect, adapted here for the requirements of an SUV.

There are three variants – GT, Modena, and Trofeo. All three variants feature the same low and concaved grille (finished in chrome for the GT and black for the rest), with headlight graphics that are similar to the MC20.

In the rear, the boomerang taillights – inspired by the Giugiaro 3200 GT – take on a characteristically Maserati appearance and trapezoidal lines.

The Modena and Trofeo versions accentuate their sporty character even more, with rear wheel track augmented by 34 mm compared to the GT model. This gives the Grecale a more dynamic aspect, further highlighted by certain chromatic details, the side skirts and the specially designed bumpers.

In the GT and Modena variants, power comes from a mild-hybrid 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission that powers all four wheels.

Output figures for the GT are quoted at 300 PS/450 Nm while the Modena churns out 330 PS/450 Nm. 0-100 km/h for the GT and Modena are rated at 5.6 seconds and 5.3 seconds respectively.

As for the Trofeo, it gets a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine that is found in the MC20 albeit a revised version, putting out 530 PS/620 Nm. Like the GT and Modena, power goes to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. 0-100 km/h is completed in 3.8 seconds, onwards to a top speed of 285 km/h.

For stopping power, the Trofeo gets six-piston calipers at the front with 360 mm rotors and four-piston calipers at the rear with 350 mm rotors. Meanwhile, the GT and Modena get a four- and single-piston caliper setup front to rear, with 350 mm and 330 mm discs front to rear.

Wheel sizes start from 19 inches for the GT to 21 inches for the Trofeo.

Suspension wise, the Maserati Grecale has a double-wishbone setup at the front and multi-link at the rear. Air suspension comes as standard on the Trofeo and is optional on lower-rung variants.

Inside, there’s an array of screens for the instrument cluster, infotainment system, and climate control settings.

The infotainment system runs on an Android operating system and supports Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. Audio is fed through a 1,285-watt 21-speaker sound system by Sonus Faber.

Maserati says that there will be an EV version of the Grecale, arriving one year after the combustion engine variants in 2023. Not much details have been announced, save for the 105 kWh battery and 400-volt architecture.

Meanwhile, Naza Italia has confirmed that the Maserati Grecale will be launched in Malaysia later this year, with more details to come as we approach its arrival. Stay tuned to WapCar.my for more updates.
