Twisted Automotive, a UK based Land Rover specialist, has announced a limited series production of 30 electric Land Rover Defenders that will only be available in the US.
The electric Defenders are based on the North American Specification (NAS) short wheelbase 90 models with soft tops. Two versions of the electric Defender will be available:
NAS-E (217 PS and 380 Nm); $185,000
NAS-E Plus (324 PS and 420 Nm), $210,000
Both versions come with the same 60kWh battery pack and are capable of 22kW AC charging. Remy Borg-Warner motors are used to propel these Defenders.
Range is claimed to be 322 km and there are no details on the DC charging capabilities.
Twisted stated that these electric Defenders are more capable than their ICE counterparts, thanks to the use of custom suspension components, wheels, tires and brakes. A custom build will take nine months to complete.
Three electric Defender comes in three colours – Malibu, Yosemite, and Tahoe.
While Twisted is a Land Rover specialist, the Land Rover brand is yet to produce a fully-electric car. The Jaguar I-Pace is the only fully-electric car from JLR (Jaguar Land Rover). In other reports, The UK government will be funding JLR’s development of a prototype hydrogen fuel cell.
