Signing the papers on a Lexus has always been contrarian to the conventional idea of aiming for the three-pointed star or reaching for a certain blue-and-white roundel, but we'll be damned if the Lexus RX proves that that's one of the better decisions to make. And next month, the all-new 2023 Lexus RX will debut, aiming to solidify camp Japan's offering.
Set to premiere via an online event on Wednesday, 1-June 2022, 8 am Malaysian time, the 2023 RX will be the fifth generation to bear the Radiant Crossover initials, ending the previous-gen's 7-year run. The world premiere can be accessed via this link.
A distinctive new look will follow, if it's a little more angular than the outgoing model - at least that's what we can gather from the sole teaser image and spyshots. Recent models point towards the RX's new look, so it wouldn't be too far to imagine it having a light bar at the back too, à la the Lexus RZ and just-in-Malaysia Lexus NX.
There's no peeking at the interior yet, and technical details are limited. Electrification is pretty much a given, so expect a plug-in hybrid powertrain, along with a new hybrid system with Direct4 all-wheel drive (AWD) to be paired to its Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) chassis.
Short of waiting for an indefinite amount of time for it to enter Malaysia, those with the dosh to spare can opt for the current-gen Lexus RX instead. Prices for that start from RM 385,306 (with SST-discount, until 30-June 2022).
