The all-new fifth-generation 2024 MINI Cooper Electric has a new design philosophy, emphasising a streamlined approach to its essential elements. The iconic model makes its debut with a focus on electric powertrains, marking a shift in the vehicle's trajectory.
Let's delve into the powertrain aspect right away, of which there are two electric powertrains on offer. The MINI Cooper E features an electric motor with an output of 184 PS and 290 Nm. This is powered by a 40.7 kWh battery, propelling it from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and a WLTP range of 305 km, a notable improvement over its predecessor's 232 km range.
Meanwhile, the MINI Cooper SE takes things up a notch with an electric motor cranking out 218 PS and 330 Nm. It packs a larger 54.2 kWh battery and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. WLTP range is rated at 402 km.
The refreshed Cooper's exterior has undergone noticeable changes while maintaining its iconic profile. Notably, the new design discards some elements from its predecessor, such as the fender flares and side scuttles, in favour of a sleeker appearance.
MINI's trademark three-part paint scheme, distinguishing the vehicle body, window area, and roof with different hues, makes return. This aesthetic is further complemented by flush door handles, contributing to the low drag coefficient of 0.28 Cd.
Up front, the Cooper boasts a fresh octagonal-shaped grille framed in Vibrant Silver, accompanied by circular headlamps that have ditched the chrome trim.
At the rear, the triangular taillights mirror the headlamps with their distinct lighting modes. Completing the exterior transformation, black trim accents grace the lower bumpers and sides of the vehicle.
Interior-wise, the redesigned Cooper draws inspiration from the classic Mini designed by Alec Issigonis, with a prominent 9.4-inch OLED touchscreen adorning the dashboard, doubling as the instrument cluster.
Known as the MINI Interaction Unit, this display runs on the MINI Operating System 9, offering a wide range of configurability. The MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant, represented by virtual companion named "Spike" responds to voice commands with a simple "Hey MINI!" prompt.
While most functions are accessible via the touchscreen, MINI has retained the toggle bar. With the gear lever now on the toggle bar, the centre console gets an enlarged cup holder and an open storage compartment, complete with a wireless charger.
On the driver assistance front, the all-new MINI Cooper is equipped with 12 ultrasonic sensors and four surround-view cameras, supporting features like Parking Assistant and optional Parking Assistant Plus.
