The Peugeot 408 is Stellantis Malaysia's first new model launch in the country since taking over distribution duties of the French Lion from Bermaz Auto. Locally assembled (CKD) at Stellantis Group's assembly plant in Gurun, Kedah, the Peugeot 408 is available in three variants:
- 408 Allure - RM 146,055
- 408 Premium - RM 166,055
- 408 GT - RM 196,055
All 3 variants are powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged PureTech 4-cylinder engine with an output of 218 PS and 300 Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The latest 408 looks like it is in a class of its own with a distinct fastback shape with crossover-like elements like body cladding surrounding the underside and plastic wheelarches. Yet, it is dimensionally similar to a C-segment car and competes with the Honda Civic.
The three variants are differentiated by the wheels with the base Allure receiving 18-inch Granite Grey wheels, Premium shod on 18-inch Granite Black wheels, and the highest-spec GT getting 20-inch Monolithe Black alloys.
Four colours are available for the local-spec 408 -
Perla Nera Black, Okenite White, Artense Grey, and Obsession Blue.
The Malaysian-spec 408 offers the following as standard:
- Front and rear LED lights
- Automatic wipers
- Electric driver seat
- 10-inch digital instrument cluster
- 10-inch infotainment screen
- 6 airbags
- Lane keep assist
- Adaptive cruise control
- Autonomous emergency braking
The base 408 Allure is equipped with partial leather seats, 6 speakers, a reverse camera, and rear parking sensors.
The 408 Premium adds Black Nappa leather seats, driver seat memory function, blind-spot monitors, and lane change assist.
Finally, the highest-spec 408 GT adds matrix LED headlights, Naboo Blue Nappa leather seats, a massaging driver seat, a Focal sound system, and a 360-degree panoramic view camera display.
Just like the rest of the Peugeot range, the Peugeot 408 comes with a 7-year/200,000-km warranty and is available for test drive at all Peugeot showrooms nationwide.
As of today, around 200 booking orders for the French fastback were received across the country as revealed by Jamie Francis Morais, Managing Director of Stellantis Malaysia.
Besides Peugeot, Stellantis Malaysia has hinted that it is planning to introduce other brands under its umbrella including Citroen, Jeep, and Alfa Romeo as models were showcased at its Investor Day.
