Toyota is on a roll with SUVs, as spyshots of a new C-segment SUV have surfaced.
According to Japanese sources, the new C-segment SUV is developing a new SUV codenamed “地方男子”, which loosely translates to “local boy”.
Like the C-HR (and forthcoming Corolla Cross), the “local boy” is based on the TNGA-C platform. Even the wheelbase is said to be identical to the C-HR, coming in at 2,640 mm.
In Japan, there is a growing demand for Toyota to return to the original product concept of the first RAV4 – which was an affordable, simple, and fun lifestyle SUV that doesn’t that itself too seriously. The current-generation is bit too big and too expensive when compared to rivals like the Honda CR-V.
Will it come to Malaysia?
At this point of time, it’s hard to say if the “local boy” will be offered here, as Toyota is said to be introducing the Corolla Cross for this region.
The Corolla Cross will be underpinned by the TNGA-C platform, much like the C-HR, but instead of a multi-link rear suspension found on the C-HR, the Corolla Cross is fitted with a simpler torsion beam rear suspension instead.
