According to sources close to the matter, the Persona and Saga seen here is likely testing new electronic stability control (ESC) hardware for the South African market, as Proton recently changed new vendors for that part. That said, this change may not be reflected for the Malaysian market as it is an existing feature.
ESC hardware changes aside, the white Saga looks largely similar to what’s being offered in Malaysia, down to its 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
The Persona, on the other hand, seems to be wearing 16-inch R3 alloy wheels and is fitted with a rear fog light, the latter a requirement in some countries.
But Proton won’t stop at just the X50 and X70 in South Africa, as they have plans to offer the Saga as well. It remains to be seen if Proton plans to export the Persona to South Africa, as this B-segment sedan has yet to be exported to as many countries as its smaller sibling.
