Nissan distributor Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) has previewed the Nissan Kicks e-Power at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024.
Following its initial tease in 2022, the Nissan Kicks e-Power is now finally on display, leading to speculation that it could soon be introduced to the Malaysian market.
The Kicks e-Power is a full series-hybrid which features a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine (82 PS/103 Nm) that functions solely as a generator to charge a 1.57 kWh high-voltage battery.
The electric motor driving the wheels delivers 136 PS and 280 Nm of torque. The engine, uncoupled from the wheels, operates within its most energy-efficient rpm range to charge the battery, resulting in a highly fuel-efficient system with a claimed consumption of 2.2 liters/100 km.
The e-Pedal Step feature provides smooth deceleration when the accelerator is released, reducing the need for hard braking. This setup differs from series-parallel hybrids like Honda’s i-MMD and Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive, where the engine can also drive the wheels.
In terms of size, the Kicks e-Power measures 4,290 mm in length, 1,760 mm in width, and 1,610 mm in height, with a 2,615 mm wheelbase, similar to the Honda HR-V, Proton X50, and Hyundai Creta.
Elsewhere, the Kicks e-Power features independent MacPherson struts upfront, torsion beam rear suspension, and Electric Power Steering (EPS).
Safety features include six airbags, a 360-degree camera system, and the Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM) ADAS system, which encompasses Intelligent Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Warning system (BSW), Intelligent Trace Control (ITC), and Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (FCW), depending on the market and variant.
The Kicks e-Power is offered with a full LED headlamps and 17-inch wheels. The model also offers Nissan’s Zero Gravity seats, a 7-inch TFT digital meter cluster, and an 8-inch infotainment head unit compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
However, since the preview unit had its windows blacked out, little can be confirmed at this time.
The Kicks e-Power has been launched in all major ASEAN markets, but Malaysia. In Thailand, prices range from THB 779,900 (~RM 101k) to THB 979,900 (~RM 127k).
Of course, pricing is dependent on whether the Kicks e-Power is locally-assembled (CKD) or fully imported (CBU), if it is launched in Malaysia.
In Thailand, although the Kicks e-Power is a B-segment SUV, its starting price is 2.4% lower than the (upper) A-segment Honda WR-V, which starts at THB 799,000 (~RM 104k).
