During the 2023 annual review press conference, the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) disclosed that 38,214 electrified vehicles (xEV) were sold last year in 2023.

Representing approximately five percent of the Total Industry Volume (TIV) of 799,731 units, this indicates a continued positive momentum for its demand.

xEV sales jumped by 69 percent from 22,619 units in 2022 to 38,214 units. Within the figure, electric vehicles (EVs) comprised nearly 27 percent, totalling 10,159 units, while hybrids - including mild hybrid (MHEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) - accounted for 28,055 units, with non plug-in hybrids (HEVs) accounting for the majority of it.

Compared to 2022, the sales figure for EVs represents a 386 percent increase with 2,631 units sold.

The MAA also reported the presence of 1,434 charging stations in Malaysia as of October 2023, with 1,117 being AC chargers and 317 being DC chargers. The set target for 2025 remains at 10,000 units, comprising 9,000 AC chargers and 1,000 DC chargers.

This year, the MAA believes that the xEV demand and interest will continue to grow at the back of the government support to promote its use and with new xEV models being introduced.

The quest for automotive knowledge began as soon as the earliest memories. Various sources information, even questionable ones, have been explored including video games, television, magazines, or even internet forums. Still stuck in that rabbit hole.
