After a 3-year hiatus in the local market, it seems that Hyundai’s Malaysian distributor. Hyundai-Sime Darby Motor (HSDM) is finally bringing back the Hyundai Tucson with the all-new fourth-generation spotted on our local roads.

Taken by an anonymous user, the all-new Tucson made its global unveiling in September 2020 with two wheelbase variations. Even though there is a long wheelbase version offered for certain markets, the Tucson remains strictly a 2-row, 5-seater SUV.

The all-new Tucson is available with 9 engine choices though it appears that at least one of the engines planned for Malaysia is a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol unit. This is seen in the rear shot of the Tucson which has a badge that states “1.6T”.

The Smartstream G1.6 engine makes 180 PS and 265 Nm. However, this engine might not be the only one available here as it is rumoured that a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol unit (156 PS/192 Nm) could also be introduced by HSDM.

The all-new Tucson will be fighting against the Honda CR-V when it arrives here. The previous generation was locally assembled (CKD) at the Inokom plant in Kulim but it still remains certain whether its successor will follow the CKD route.

Its bigger brother, the facelifted Santa Fe, on the other hand, will be assembled locally as both Hyundai and Inokom signed a Certificate of Production earlier this month. Units of the facelifted Santa Fe have also been spotted in Malaysia.
