Overview
First launched in 2016, the Perodua Bezza is the brand’s first venture into the A-segment sedan market. After 4 years of dominance, the 2020 Perodua Bezza received a facelift in 2020 and was upgraded with equipment like more stylish exterior and interior finishes, LED headlamps on all variants, and even A.S.A 2.0 on the range-topping variant. Though the new price tag puts it far above its closest rival, the Proton Saga, and put it closer to the Proton Persona’s territory.
Exterior
Designer
Since the update, the 2020 Perodua Bezza now sports sportier lines but larger rear bumpers with prominent fog lamp housing. The Gearup package that Perodua offers as an add-on for the Bezza further enhances the car’s sporty looks.
Dimensions
The Perodua Bezza measures in at 4,170 x 1,620 x 1,525 x 2,455 mm in terms of length, width, height and wheelbase.
2020 Perodua Bezza Dimensions
Length | 4,170 mm |
Width | 1,620 mm |
Height | 1,525 mm |
Wheelbase | 2,455 mm |
Lighting
All variants of the Perodua Bezza are equipped with LED headlights with combination taillights. Only the G variant does not get fog lights while the X and AV get the added shine of halogen fog lamps.
Wheels
Perodua Bezza rolled out 15-inch wheels for the AV and X variants during the update. Only the G variant maintains the 14-inch wheels.
Interior
Dashboard
In terms of interior, the 2020 Perodua Bezza’s update has come a long way. The dashboard is now made with better quality plastic and gives off a modern impression thanks to the silver trim running through the middle.
Instrument Cluster
The biggest update in terms of the interior is the instrument cluster. The orange light similar to that of the old Axia has been replaced with white backlit metres giving the car a much needed modern feel.
Space and Practicality
The Perodua Bezza still retains its class-leading legroom though headroom is still questionable. Practicality is still not the best though Perodua has done what they can to insert more cubby spaces in the car. The updated Perodua Bezza still lacks the all-important centre console.
Boot
For a small car, the Perodua Bezza offers boot space that could rival a Honda City even though the 2 cars sit in different segments.
Features
Safety Features
Though there are still only 2 airbags on the 2020 Perodua Bezza, Perodua has extended the availability of VSC and traction control to the Bezza X while both higher-spec cars have the added safety of Brake Assist. The range-topping AV variant is the only car that receives the full suite of A.S.A 2.0, so you get all the safety equipment on the Perodua Aruz on the Perodua Bezza AV variant as well.
Comfort Features
The Perodua Bezza now gets stylish leather seats on the top-spec, similar to that on the Perodua Myvi. Other than that, the Perodua Bezza retains the keyless entry and push-to-start functions. Rear seats are also more comfortable as Perodua has readjusted the recline angle for a better seating position.
Infotainment
Only the AV variant gets the updated multimedia system with navigation and Smartlink. The touchscreen infotainment unit is even more updated than the Myvi and Aruz.
Powertrain
Engine
Perodua offers 2 engines in the Bezza. The base 1.0-litre engine produces 68 PS and 91 Nm while the 1.3-litre engine in the X and AV variants dispenses 95 PS and 121 Nm.
2020 Perodua Bezza Engine
1.0-litre DOHC with VVT-i petrol | 68 PS @ 6,600 rpm | 91 Nm @ 4,400 rpm |
1.3-litre DOHC with Dual VVT-i petrol | 95 PS @ 6,000 rpm | 121 Nm @ 4,000 rpm |
Transmission
Perodua still offers a 5-speed manual gearbox for the lowest spec Bezza G variant. While all variants, including the G, enjoy the benefits of the 4-speed automatic gearbox.
Chassis
Electric power steering is available on all variants of the Bezza. The sedan also has a turning radius of 4.5 m in the G variant and 5 m for the X and AV variant.
Drivetrain
The Perodua Bezza is 2 wheel drive only.
Driving Performance
Engine Performance
The Perodua Bezza doesn’t have the smoothest engine, even the bigger 1.3-litre engine gets breathless in a spirited drive. While it doesn’t perform well at high speeds, the engine is adequate for the daily city commute.
Transmission Performance
Perodua’s 4-speed automatic gearbox is a tried and tested unit. The transmission has smooth gear changes and responds well under pressure. It is only let down by the heaving engine.
Steering and Handling
The steering is light but still holds its own when it comes to highway cruising. It’s not the most talented handling, but the Perodua Bezza has a calm steadiness to it.
Ride Comfort
Sound Proofing
Soundproofing is not the best in the Perodua Bezza though it has significantly improved from the pre-facelift.
Passenger Comfort
Because of the larger wheels, the Perodua Bezza has a better ride comfort than the pre-facelift.
Fuel Consumption
Perodua claims 22 km/ litre on the top-spec Bezza AV thanks to Eco Idle.
Conclusion
The Perodua Bezza might now come with a premium price tag, but the many features the car carries still puts the car in the value-for-money category. At the moment, the Bezza has the most advanced infotainment compared to its fellow Perodua siblings, though the infotainment still loses out greatly to the Proton Saga. But if you’re in the market for a car that would help save you money for the long run, then the Perodua Bezza is the answer for you.
