Review: The Peugeot 5008 is Malaysia's quirkiest 3-row SUV that is also very liveable

Three-row SUVs in Malaysia have always been dominated by the usual Japanese suspects like the Nissan X-Trail or the Mazda CX-8/CX-9 but let’s not forget the representatives from Europe. Chief among them is the Peugeot 5008 Allure.

Locally assembled in Gurun, the Peugeot 5008 Allure is the lone variant offered in Malaysia. Powered by a 1.6-litre Turbo High Pressure (THP) engine (165 PS/240 Nm), the French 3-row SUV is priced at RM 182,388.

3008 on the left, 5008 on the right

Essentially the longer brother of the equally alluring Peugeot 3008, the 5008 is an eye-catching SUV that looks a little bit more wagon-like than the 3008. Both designs are nearly identical, but you can tell a 5008 apart from the 3008 thanks to the boxier rear and the 5008 badge on the front.

Style isn’t exactly the main reason one would choose to get a 3-row SUV but rather space and practicality. The 5008’s dashboard is also largely similar to the 3008 so you get Peugeot’s trademark i-Cockpit as well as a small steering wheel among others.

Adrian is 175 cm and his seat is adjusted to the most forward position

The 5008 is definitely practical with plenty of storage space to even put your large water bottle and the rear occupants do not feel claustrophobic thanks to the panoramic sunroof. Speaking of, it does not intrude on headroom while legroom is also just right for those with taller frames.

The biggest difference between the 3008 and 5008 is the extra third row in the latter. It can fit an adult with just enough knee- and headroom but this is best suited for a short trip for lunch (or brunch if you’re feeling fancy).

The third row is more suited for children during long-distance journeys but this does hamper the boot space with all the seats up.

To know more about just how liveable this quirky French SUV is, we’ll let Adrian give out the rest of the details in his video review below.
