'Lifespan-extending, diarrhoea-curing' Skyworth EV6 spotted in Thailand - No camo, but it has a different name...again

Following yesterday's news of the supposedly disease-curing, lifespan-extending Skyworth EV6 and its purported arrival to Malaysia, a few right-hand drive (RHD) units have been spotted in Thailand.

Car2Day shared photos of a white car, offering quite a close look at the newest Chinese battery electric vehicle to sail into the ASEAN region. The car haven't got one shred of camo on it, and curiously it's named the Fregata Ariel 8; instead of the Skyworth EV6.

This, apparently, has been a thing with Skyworth. When it was first announced for the Chinese market, CarNewsChina reported that it was to be called Skywell, but it was changed at the last minute to distinguish itself from its largest shareholder that makes buses under the Skywell name. Same English name, but different in Chinese.

Leading up to the launch it was called the Skyworth ET5, but it was then swapped to as it is today, the Skyworth EV6. Fregata Ariel 8 seems to be a completely new moniker (perhaps for export markets?) that hasn't appeared anywhere else.

Note that Skyworth has been making household electronic products since 1988, and this is their first foray into cars.

All that name hoo-ha aside, the EV6 (no, not the one that Kia showed this morning, keep up!) in China is available with either a 52 kWh, 72 kWh or 86 kWh battery for 402 km, 520 km, and 620 km electric range on the NEDC cycle. Power comes from a single electric motor with 204 PS and 320 Nm.

Prices in China range from CNY 157k to CNY 330k (~RM 100k to RM 217k).

There are plans to introduce the Skyworth brand and its models to Malaysia as locally-assembled (CKD) cars in the third quarter of this year, in partnership with NexV Auto Alliance Sdn. Bhd.; a subsidiary of glove-makers Careplus Group.
